Tricking / Re: Tucking
« on: April 05, 2010, 05:34:59 PM »
Okay while Kyle may be kinda harsh, he has a point.  You just need to get over it.  Sometimes knowing the physics behind a trick and how it works helps.  Mental blocks have tripped me up before (mostly aerials and back tucks).  What I would do is say out loud "I'm just doing a cartwheel (I used back handsprings for back tucks), don't be scared" then I'd run and throw the aerial.  Maybe it'll work for you.

Also, I wouldn't recommend using your arms to catch yourself while tricking.  a) I've seen far more dislocations at the elbow than I'd like and b) if you go in with the mindset that you can catch yourself, you risk bailing (which leads to injury) or getting comfortable with landing on all fours.

Freerunning / Re: Back handspring help.

A lot of what holds up a back handspring (BHS) is mental blocks.  Once you get the technique down, they're easy.  Essentially a BHS is just a really quick bridge kick-over.  I would watch a few tutorials on youtube then find someone who can spot you.  It's an easy trick to learn; just takes some time to get comfortable with it.

If you need a tutorial I can make one for you tomorrow.

Diet / Morning Beverages
« on: April 04, 2010, 06:08:46 PM »
My diet as of now consists of steak, junkfood, pasta, coffee, and A1 sauce (it ruins my steak, but I drink it).  I'm tiny, but not healthy at all; so I've decided to start eating healthier.  Easy enough, but I'm wondering about the coffee.  I need the boost in the morning or else I'm angry and anti-social.  Is there a good, healthy substitute for coffee?

I'm going to Italy this Friday with my school.  I can't even begin to explain how excited I am.  There are bound to be LOADS of hotspots and endless opportunities.  We'll be going to several cities (12 I think), and I can't wait to leave my mark on each one ^.^
My school is on a tour with three other schools so I hope to find some traceurs within the big group (Italy Jamfest anyone?)!  Does anyone else get this psyched when going somewhere totally new?  Compared to my small town, Italy just seems like this massive playground =)

...when there's a hole in your bedroom wall because you vaulted in through your bedroom window and rolled into said wall

...when you get a saturday detention for jumping out the nurse's office window onto a tree just because it looked fun

...the ER won't xray you because you've already had too many that year

...you've never lost a game of hide and seek

A very simple move to start it off:

Remember, you don't need to do the same exact obstacle as me(which is a tree). You just gotta find something similar, like for my vid, some bars at a playground or the slanted posts on the side of a soccer goal or something, would be cool. Just be creative.

There.  My roll is pretty fail (really fail) but oh well, it gives you all something to improve on! ^.^

Injuries - Discussion / Re: READ BEFORE CREATING NEW TOPICS
« on: April 02, 2010, 05:14:59 PM »
Here's a great website I found a while back when I was VERY sick and wanted to figure out what I could have contracted before going to a doctor to make sure we'd both cover the right symptoms and consider the same diagnosis'. It's free, you don't have to sign up, you just go to the page and click Start and you choose from a specific interactive list of body parts and symptoms, and it'll come up with a large list of possibilities. They've started to advertise the free service on TV as well, so you might have heard of this:

http://www.webmd.com/

Thought self-diagnosis is often not the most reliable thing, it can sure be helpful when you need to look into an injury or any symptoms more. I don't trust doctors completely because there's a lot that have been known to overlook symptoms and not give you a good enough or right treatment, so I figure you could have this at your disposal to seriously contemplate any situations and if you have an injury bad enough requiring a doctor's visit, be able to discuss with them the diagnosis and treatment, rather than just saying "I fell and now I've got pain." Let me know what you guys think! Thanks!

While WebMD may have a symptom guide, it isn't a substitute for a doctor.  WebMD can induce hypocondria and almost always tells you to seek medical attention.  I don't care who made the site, but I don't take advice from anyone/thing that doesnt have several liscences and diplomas up on the wall.  If it hurts, or snap/crackle/pops, go see a doctor; it could be nothing, but better safe than sorry.

Hi ^.^
My friends call me Kendy.  I'm 16 from the enigmatic suburbs of Connecticut.  I started off as a competitive cheerleader in 2nd grade, but did you know that once you hit highschool the other girls on the team don't like people who wear black?  A load of pomp that was; so I switched to parkour two years ago.  I can't shake the need to push my body to its limits.  Oh well =P
