Hawaii / Parkour Articles regarding differing aspects of the art?
« on: July 07, 2010, 11:15:06 AM »
I was doing some training the other day, and it occured to me that the popular opinion of parkour is centered around the "fact" that traceurs are just mindless thrill seekers, or delinquents with nothing better to do than scuff up public property. Now I'm sure that most of the Parkour Purists think this is absolutely offensive (or spot on),  but it seems that due to the recent increase of popularity of Parkour in the media, this is the image that our beloved art will continue to convey to other people, who in turn will either lable us vandals, or will hurt themselves trying to emulate what they have seen in videogames or movies. This may have a negative impact on the parkour community as a whole, or I may have been exaggerating this whole scenario to an extent. Anyhow, we as a community need to be aware of and reflect on the culture, history, theory, and practical uses of our unified passion. I want to post articles on the forums reflecting those values, and maybe if the articles get good enough feedback here, I could make a video series on youtube, and probably get some of the articles posted on the online magazines. But it starts here first. Sound interesting to anyone?

Hawaii / Re: What is your definition of Parkour and Freerunning?
« on: July 07, 2010, 01:06:00 AM »
Probably late to this post, but to me Parkour is like making love to the architecture, and bringing life and purpose to the stale and seemingly lifeless unnatural and natural world. It is a means of self-discovery and a connection to the natural curiosities and a response to our need to challenge social norms, and express ourselves and the freedom that our bodies were once capable. It is what keeps us connected to the naturalworld, and in some aspects, it can be used as an ice breaker, and can even inspire newfound courage in those with weak hearts. It can even be used in self defense, when the situation is clouded by violent overtones, reason is lost on the aggressor(s), sometimes it is just best to flee the situation. PArkour is simply put, poetry in motion.

If we're going around and jamming, where are we going to meet up at so I can get to sleep early enough to get up and be there early enough?

What's up gymnastics in Ka Uka on Friday at 7:30-9:30. 10$ and the gym is yours, just avoid kids and bailing.
