Training Journals / Re: The Log

Did a rowing workout that consisted of 3 min. on, 1 min. off, 2 min. on, 30 sec. off, 1 min. on. The goal was to cover as much total distance as possible. I got about 1650m covered. After that I did 30 kipping pull ups, 30 push ups, and 30 sit ups.

Not bad, considering I said I wasn't going to work out today due to overall body soreness!

3x500m row (1:46, 1:49, 1:49)
3x10 sec. tuck planche holds (aiming for perfectly straight back)
3x1 10 sec. one arm chin negatives, each arm
3x10 sec. advanced l-sit hold
3x5 press at 115 lbs.
3x5 weighted pull up at 20 lbs., chest to bar
3x5 bench press at 195 lbs.

most of the reps i did were easily done at the weights i used so i will be adjusting them as i continue my new workout plan. basically, just a workout A and a workout B that will be alternated. both focus on upper body since i am still trying to rehab my runner's knee. main goals are to push and pull really heavy, improve grip strength, and improve certain gymnastic skills and holds.

any comments or suggestions are welcomed.

CO Jams / Ninja Warrior Competition - Feb. 27
« on: February 14, 2010, 11:11:30 PM »
On Feb. 27, APEX Movement will hold a Ninja Warrior competition in preparation for the next ANWC tryout in L.A. this spring. Starting at 3:30 PM, participants will run through the first course in order to qualify for the final course to be run later in the night. After the final course, we will open all the obstacles up for practicing.

As usual, there will be lots of prizes up for grabs including an APEX sponsored trip to tryout for the next ANWC in L.A. this spring for the top finishing participant (non-APEX instructor, must be 21 yrs. old w/ valid passport to tryout). And by APEX sponsored, we mean we will find you a place to crash at and cover your share of gas for road tripping with us. ;)

The cost to participate in the competition is $25 on the day of and $20 if you register online or at the gym before Feb. 27. Unlimited gym members compete for free, while students enrolled in a 10 class session can sign up for 50% off.

« on: February 09, 2010, 12:45:40 AM »
What: Women's Parkour & Freerunning Workshop
Where: APEX Movement (2250 Lawrence St., Denver, CO)
When: Sunday, Feb. 21 - 11-1 PM
Cost: $25, $10 for students enrolled in a 10 class program, free for members

We have a lot of women who train in Parkour here in Colorado! This 2 hour seminar will help introduce women to the basic concepts and movements of Parkour. We specialize in scaling conditioning and movements to each individual's capabilities. It is also intended to provide a positive and supportive environment for more women to get involved in parkour and learn new skills. There will be a warm up and some conditioning, as well as instruction in movements and concepts. There will be a Q&A session afterward and we will cover information on how to get involved in more parkour training with us or on your own.

Thanks guys, we love having visitors so let us know if you are ever in the area.

The wooden things at 4:35 are called stall bars and used to be in every gymnastics gym. Currently, they can still be found in a lot of gymnastics gyms. We use them for climbing, stretching, hanging core exercises, flags, cat leaps, cat hang flips, and more.

Day 2 of the Ninja Warrior Competition at APEX Movement consisted of one long, final course. Each person got 1 attempt at the course. The course was timed with 1 opportunity for a time penalty and several opportunities for disqualification. The time penalty was 1 minute for failing on the sliding bar. The disqualifications were spread out across the course for touching the ground or certain obstacles. Out of the 20+ participants, only 5 people completed it: Brendan Dudley and four APEX instructors Ryan Ford, Matt Marshall (fastest time), Andy Taber, and Amos Rendao.

Thanks NDS!

He is not TK17. He is an elite level wrestler who trains at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. We always joke around that he is Brian "nosole" Orosco's twin.

Colorado / Re: landing
« on: January 06, 2010, 11:31:41 AM »
you will get more feedback on these kind of posts if you put them in the techniques/movement forum. ;)

in short, landing on 2 feet, symmetrically is the way to go for drops higher than about 3 ft. under 3 ft. you should be able to land one at a time, in stride so that you can keep running.

i dont know exactly man but im sure you could easily find out on craigslist!

300 days of sun every year in Denver/Boulder which is 2nd among all major cities in the country. Even when it snows, it can be 60 and everything will melt the next day. Summer, spring, and fall are all great.

Colorado is the best state! Great weather, lots to do, and possibly the biggest parkour scene in the country. To answer your question about housing, I am sure you can find a wide price range. Downtown Denver and Boulder are pricier but if you are willing to live outside of them a bit, you can find great bargains.

Seattle's winding streets, complex architecture, and earth-mimicking topography provide a useful, strangely aesthetic opportunity for interpretation by our crew of post-modern athletes.

Explore our habitat. Adapt our vision. Claim our space.

On day 1 of the Ninja Warrior competition at APEX Movement, there were five qualifying courses that contestants ran through. The first four courses were timed and some special rules or routes were designated. If these rules were broken, time penalties were added on. The fifth course was completion based, meaning whoever completed it earned an amount of time subtracted from their course 1-4 time total.

The top times for APEX instructors were:

Amos Rendao - 138 sec.
Sat Khalsa - 148 sec.
Matt Marshall - 155 sec.

The top times for non-APEX instructors were:

Jake Vigil - 160 sec.
Michael Moritz - 169 sec.
Drew Emig - 174 sec.
