Parkour / Re: 10-15 foot Drops....
« on: August 03, 2009, 08:55:02 AM »
I realize this topic should just die in peace, but i cant resist sharing my experience. On my FIRST DAY, I decided to try a 15 foot drop. Sure, it was on to grass, but I didn't even know how to roll out of it. I almost broke my ankle. Don't do what I did.

Movement / Blocking
« on: July 31, 2009, 11:22:51 AM »
I have seen a video of people "blocking" i.e. placing their feet in front of their bodies after a small hop or jump to convert forward momentum into upwards momentum. It works on the videos, but those are of people on mats, not concrete, going almost straight up, not forward at all. I was wondering if this is at all practical to use in Parkour/Freerunning, and if so, under what curcumstances and how to do it.

I have a few opinions about the idea of tictac-ing down a couple of walls. One, it sounds fun, and isnt that really the point of the whole sport? We dont practice parkour to make money, or to impress people, but to have fun. Second, If you slip when you precision you will probably break ur legs if u dont recover in time. Third, ok, he slips. He's only a little worse off than before. He's out of position, and hes hurtling towards the ground at an ungodly speed, but he'd be doing that anyway if he didn't try.

Hey I'm David, but my friends call me Chase 'cause its my middle name, I'm fourteen, i live in charlotte, And I've been practicing parkour for about a day. Yesterday (my first day) I almost shattered my right ankle and I think I screwed up my back somehow, so for a while I wont have much to do other than check out the forums. Parkour is still awesome, tho!

FAQ / Re: I feel embarrassed practicing in public...

I have found that a great place to practice to at least work on the basics is an empty parking garage, especially if its the summer and its still light out then.
