Training Journals / Shawn's log

i figured its time to start a training log.... for multiple reasons

1)ill keep my motivation up
2)you guys will keep my motivation up
3) i just started the p90x workout

today i did the chest and back workout.....and i will be doing the ab workout in about 10 minutse from now

tomorrow i have a plyometrics vid and im kinda concerned about doing that because ill be in my garage (aka a concrete floor with about an eighth inch of carpet under me) anyone have any ideas on how to get some more padding under me? (ive read plyometrics on hard surfaces=a no no)

other than these vids i ran for ten minutes earlier today so i got about 1 1/2 miles in, and i practiced a bit at the park (maybe half an hour) with my friend.

i dont think im going to do a food log because i have terrible eating habits, and no need to post what supplements im taking because ive done that before....EXCEPT
i have new fish oil supplement

i feel quite accomplished

(tomorrow and after ill start logging what exercises i do during the vids (and how many reps) because out of all the people on here maybe 1 has done the p90x, lol)

can anyone give me details about the place that ARENT on the website?

(i know the people who own the gym are members on this site so i think i should be able to get some good info, lol)

Injuries - Discussion / help for a friend?

ok i have a friend who has some knee problems. she apparently has had them for about three years now. apparently they started when she was on the pom squad at school.

she said she had knee problems, so me doing a lot of working out figured i may be able to help

i told her to start doing some squats, but do them ass-to-the-grass style (and explained about the weird muscle formation that 90 degree squats can sometimes give you). she said when she does squats it hurts so i said to start with lunges, but apparently those hurt more than squats...

i then figured id ask her what kind of pain she has just in general, and when she does squats: in general they can go from not hurting at all to sharp pain, and she said theres usually a dull pain almost all the time, and sometimes they give out (which i figured suggested maybe its a medical issue, though i didnt say that just in case im wrong). when she does squats she says its uncomfortable (and if i read what she typed correctly, she says the pain is less than a 6 on a 1-10 scale) so she MAY just be horribly out of shape... idk

i also checked to see if she does squats with her toes and knees pointed in the same direction, it sounds as if they may be slightly off in being the same, but im guessing theyre close enough to the point where its not her form thats giving her problems


if anyone could give me something to tell her (and she knows this isnt coming from me, so if youd like me to give you credit ill gladly do so) itd be appreciated

but what about what made your day suck?
lately ive had quite a few reasons to post something like this

so ill give two examples

yesterday i sprained my ankle, now i can barely walk

today, my parents bought me and my little sister a cell phone, only to tell me, once we got home, that they were returning mine because they dont have enough money to pay for both...

not only do i have more reason to have a cell (shes 12, wtf?!) but my parents were yelling at me because i dont want to share a phone
(people texting all the time to the wrong person, itd just be too complicated)

Injuries - Discussion / death to my ankle D:

i did a simple vault that ive done millions of times

i dont really know how i even managed this, but somehow, i landed on top of the outside of my foot, and rolled the HELL out of my ankle
i can barely walk

i dont really know if this vault has a specific name is it cant really be used in many situations

i always used to call it a side vault but apparently thats not the correct term for it

picture a waist high fence (one of the wooden ones with two planks going across and one going into the ground every seven feet or so), youre walking parallel to it, and you decide you wanna be on the other side, so you put a hand down, flip your legs over it in front of you, and continue walking... im sure youve all done it....and i do it ALL the time, every day....

i did it today, and i guess i just wasnt concentrating enough (maybe because i was in a new place, idk) and i landed horrible


i think im gonna be out for awhile...this really sucks

i cant train handstands either for fear of landing on my left foot
i guess im sticking to one legged pushups, pullups, and very few other exercises until it gets better


this sucks...

General Fitness / in response to the pushup arguement (pullups)

ive been training pullups a LOT lately

now i can do about 25 pullups in a row, but only when i go fast
i got about 10 when i go slow

when im training with parkour in mind (my secondary goal is "toning" my muscles) would it be more beneficial for me to do them fast or slow?
id expect fast so my climb-ups are better; but then again, if i did slow it might help on other movements....(such as a cat grab)

and then theres grips, which would be better (i have an iron gym, so i have pullup grip close and wide, chinup grip close or wide, and that weird side grip i guess you could call it)?

im guessing the answer to my questions change because i have the secondary goal of "toned" muscles; so if necassary i would appreciate an answer for both (obviously more importantly my primary goal seeing as it will pertain to more people on this site)

General Fitness / hamstring exercises

i know im supposed to work the posterior chain... i know how to work my glutes and lower back, and my calves, not so much my traps, but i know the delts

i dont really know anything that isolates the hammys
i know i can do squats with the resistance bands and that works my hams a bit more than a normal squat

but i want something that is TOTALLY just hamstrings...

i want body weight exercises though because i dont really have any equipment (except a resistance band and a few dumbbells)

ive tried doing leg curls with the resistance band by wrapping it around the leg of a couch or something similar that is sturdy, and laid on my stomach and did the leg curls like that, the only problem is the handles on my resistance bands slip down my leg and its kinda painful so i was wondering if theirs an alternative with that?
(my dumbbells, i have two  one-handed bars, four 2.5 pound weights, and four 5 pound weights)

other equipment that i have but cant really use for hams are "pushup pros", the Iron Gym, and a "perfect crunch" thing (it supposedly gives you perfect form so it isolates your abs when you do crunches)
plus some random thing to work your forearms and a random thing that is kinda like a bow, except resistance style instead of weapon

im not really too sure what happened

last night, computer was fine.
today (after my little sister and her friends probably messed with my cmoputer) it wont connect to the internet using firefox or opera

right now im using Winamps web browser until i figure this out.

i figure since winamp and AIM can still connect to the internet (along with windows updates and other programs) its either proxy/firewall setting (which i checked, at least to my knowlege, all possibilities on my computer), or its a virus.

i did a full scan with the most recent version of Malwarebytes and at the moment im doing a full scan with Dr Web CureIt ...

i have avast free (the paid version was giving me problems) and i have Bitdefender but its been having issues lately so its kinda disabled right now (it wont scan, avast probably killed it, even though i had the on-demand scanner off which is usually the only problem with those two). i obvioulsy have malwarebytes, but ive already scanned with that.
i MAY be installing a paid version of G-data but i dont really know if the version works or not because i got it from someone else...*hint hint*

i dont really wanna uninstall Avast AND Bitdefender if g-data doesnt work, id be screwed for awhile....



as far as trouble shooting with firefox (thats my main concern, opera is on my computer as a backup) [btw i dont have IE on my computer] ive looked at the connection settings and they look fine.. ive tried turning IPv6 off and that didnt change anything.... tried multiple different sites, restarted my computer... the usual


thats about it though
if anyone else has some suggestions let me know.... ill update you guys if Dr Web finds an issue and/or i/it solves the problem...and ill post the solution too...

if my spelling is failing its because im in a hurry, not really paying attention, plus im not using firefox :(

Parkour And Freerunning / feiyues and wallruns

anyone else having issues with that?

my wallrun dropped about a foot with my feiyues


im hoping its just that i need to adjust to my new shoes and switch up my technique

because ive heard good about the grip with these shoes

but i dont really seem to have it

maybe because they were kinda dirty?








also people told me they still had decent grip when wet but it was raining and i walk to school

when i got inside i had to walk putting my foot down flat and lifting it up and the same time so as not to fall on my ass (my first three steps on the tile consisted of me slipping, catching myself with a step that had me almost slip again, and the third i kinda stabalized enough to start walking differently

alright you guys, this is a new game, that you must participate in.
i figured since the "socialize" board has been "off-topic" if you will, and i think we should have a game that is ACTUALLY related to parkour!

so, here are the rules:
-you need to post a task for the next person who reads your post and they have to post a task for the next person.
-the tasks need to be something most everyone can accomplish (as in dont be like "a triple backflip to a gainer off a fifty story building!!)
-make a "punishment" if the person cannot accomplish or do the assigned task
-you MUST post if you read this thread, and if you cannot do the assigned task because of time of day or weather conditions, state so, and make sure you do asap
-make the punishment something anyone can do anywhere (but make it challenging, because it is a punishment) and make sure it can be done inside without special equipment, so everyone can do it)


if anything needs to be further explained post it after you get started on your task, lol

heres an example and the actual task/punishment for the first reader


task
do at least 20 speed vaults20 lazy vaults, and 15 kongs that ARENT part of your normal routine or practice for the day. i repeat, it is NOT part of your normal practice, you must do EXTRA

PUNISHMENT
100 pushups
100 situps (or crunches)
100 jumping jacks
100 squats
you can take all day long to do this, just get it done if you dont do the original task

when you use the search on APK it wont let you search by the name of topics, just by keywords

and if you have short words like "a" it will take words with the letter a in the middle of them as a result such as "pineapple"

even if you are searching "a perfect roll" you will get a lot of random stuff because of the letter/word a

...
mostly what i would like is for you to be able to search for the names of threads, because that makes it REALLY easy to find things you saw in the past

like the "101 ways to train"

if you look that up you will get a few threads posted by me looking for said thread, and i guess this one now, but not the actual "101 ways to train" thread

ive been trying to take a deep breath and then release it when on my hands, but i tend to fall when im outa breath, lol

i think its probably something with my form, cuz it feel hard to breath in, so im probably not doing osmething right

i found it really weird, that after practicing JUST handstands the last two days, i randomly found my center of gravity whilst upside down

its pretty cool, i can just feel when im in the right spot, and now its just training my muscles to keep me there longer :D
