Movement / Pre-kong vault

When I'm approaching an obstacle to kong vault, I run and right before I get to the obstacle, I do a little hop and then dive over to do the vault. Is it correct technique to do the little hop right before diving into the vault?

Thanks for the answers. I got them because the soles are pretty thin, and the grip goes up high, over the toes, which is good for wall jumps. It was a lapse in judgment with the bumps. Should of thought of the surface area.

My new Kanadia TR 3's look like they're pretty much made for Parkour. Lightweight, very grippy-looking, no hard plastic on the soles, thin-ish soles, etc. I just tried a wall jump and I ate crap (both the shoes and the wall were wet). How can I make my new shoes have more grip?
