I like it too, might want to put something in there about trespassing. That seems to be a hot spot as well

Movement / Double Kong vs Dive Kong
« on: February 24, 2011, 09:59:39 AM »
Is there a major difference between a double and a dive? When I've been practicing it seems a dive solves both problems. Is there a point to touching the first obstacle in a double?

I vote contacts. Love em. The only thing only Con I can see would be if your out training and something gets in them. Oh NOes!! Dirty contacts can suck and be really uncomfortable.

I know the ones your talking about and I feel the same way. However, it could be good practice for getting over obstacles where you cant put much weight. Might be good to know when your saving the world.

Did you read any of those threads? I'm pretty sure the topic is well fleshed out.

I've gotten super proud of my kongs. I can kong over something almost as tall as me (I'm about 5' 8'') and about as long as I am tall.

How long has this been going on? Did you do anything like kneel on a rock recently?

if your lucky enough to have a gym with training mats, you can make great obstacles out of them

Yeah that's about the usual reaction. Some people see an idiot who's doing stupid stuff and some people see an athlete pushing the limits. It's not cool to be different. On the plus side, the better you are and the more impressive you look, the more the second group will appear :P

I wish I could give you some "teach them about Parkour" answer and then they would respect you and maybe try it out themselves, but to be honest they probably won't care. Try not to let it bother you. Haters gonna hate. If it really does get under your skin, you could always assume an internal mentality of "I am a urban ninja and could your ass at Parkour every day of the week."

Normally parents seem to be more worried about you getting hurt than the "childishness" of it. I agree with Hazim, when you think about sports, they can seem kinda stupid (even though I love them :P). You could try bringing up the philosophical aspects of Parkour or you could try relating it some activity of theirs.

Movement / Re: Roll from ten feet
« on: January 14, 2011, 10:43:42 PM »
Keep in mind that just cause you roll doesn't mean your body isn't going to get damaged. Your body isn't designed to take 10ft falls. Also, have you worked up to that distance? You don't want to go straight from rolling on the ground to dropping 10 feet.

Movement / Re: I got another problem with the roll.

yeah thats what I do too. I've heard that (if your rolling over right shoulder) you put your right hand even with your left foot and put your left hand about a foot out. Try it out and see what works best for you.

how do you place your hands when you roll? I had a similar issue but when I changed my hand placement everything now works perfectly :)
