District of Columbia / DC Contact List & Jam Schedule
« on: July 25, 2010, 06:01:05 PM »
Hey folks, if you live in DC, I tend to be pretty spontaneous with training times. If folks are interested, shoot me an email or an invite on Facebook, and I'll set up multiple weekly training times (which will probably change, so if you can't make 'em one week, you might be able to do so next time around).

I'll probably set these up about 2 weeks in advance. I'd like a max of three jams per week, but that may not always be feasible.

If you want, include a cell number if you want text updates. You can request mine via email/FB as well.

Jams:

Monday, July 26th is a GO
Starting out at Gateway Park. Might move to Foggy Bottom mid-day. All day jam. =)

Saturday, July 31 is PENDING at approx. 5:00 pm
Location undecided. Suggestions?

District of Columbia / July 26th Jam!
« on: July 25, 2010, 05:37:28 PM »
Monday (July 26th) all day jam throughout DC!

I'll be moving from park to park via metro, and throughout the GW campus and surrounding areas. If anyone wants to come, I'll have my phone all day. Give a call/text at 301-606-1030. Let me know earlier than later so I can plan accordingly! Bring some cash for breakfast/lunch/dinner. Stay and chill as long as you like.

A friend of mine recently entered the marines, and she also bought a pair.

Hey! Sorry for the delay, we just got DSL set up here, so I've been incommunicado for a few days. I'll be in the Keys 'till Tuesday, but I'm not sure where the local spots are.

We're on Wrenn Street, MM 90 next to a community college, if that helps any.  :-\

Hey man,

I'll be in the Keys all week, let me know if you have some time free and we can find a place to jam. I'm visiting family down there, and I'll be flying in monday night.

Florida / Visiting the Keys
« on: May 07, 2010, 12:55:57 PM »
Hey folks, I'm going to be down by mile marker 90 in the keys (Plantation key) visiting family. Sort of close to Tavernier, anybody up for a jam this coming Thursday??

Incidentally, I'm willing to travel, but I really don't know if I'll have transportation beyond walking. And I have no idea as to the Florida hotspots.

I'll try to be there! I'm a bit strapped for cash at the moment, so I'll have to walk from foggy bottom.

Incidentally, I go to GW. There are some pretty good spots roundabouts.

I've been wondering the same thing. I'm not sure if it's a legitimate concern or not. I haven't seen anything on the news or internet yet, so I don't know. Although, I admit I preferred the previous layout-- or at least a slightly more condensed version of what we have right now.

Mid-Atlantic / New DC Club!
« on: May 01, 2010, 07:02:03 PM »
District Eclipse is forming here in the city, and looking for members! Once we get our summer schedule figured out, we'll be holding weekly meets at hotspots around the city, and representing the new George Washington Parkour/Freerunning club. We're focused on local jams here in DC, and open to everyone interested-- beginners and pros alike.

Register HERE.

We're also partnered with FPF-- Frederick Parkour and Freerunning, our good friends up north just a little ways, so give them a shout if you're in the area.  ;D They're also planning a Beginner's Workshop, so if you're new to parkour, definitely look into it.

You can also link in through Facebook, and I'll have more contact information available on the site shortly.

Well, I'm more or less snowed in. There's no practice/fencing/classes, so I don't have much else to do.  8)

Demand drives business. As long as there is demand, there'll be a supply-- and profit to be had.

I don't think Skechers keeps tabs on the PK community.

Otherwise they wouldn't have advertised those shoes.  ;D

If the Freerunners and Daescent had a baby, I'm thinking this would be something of the result.

I kinda like it, to be honest.

I wonder if she actually understood any of it or just feed of the BS they sell? Then again the answer is apparent. My step sister wanted a pair, her mum a nurse told her the truth about them. She still waanted them b/c the looked cool.

Nowaisrsly? They looked cool!? They're like miniature rocking chairs-- throw them in front of a Cracker Barrel and people would be happy standing still and wobbling back and forth instead of using the chairs.

It seems that general style is gravitating to something of a more clunky, built-up look-- not just in shoes, look at the current trend in hybrid vehicles. Granted, this may be due to legitimate structural concerns, unlike fasion. There are a lot of novelty brands (this being one of them, catering to the power-walking community) that are advertising particular features which, in the long run, probably won't be as beneficial as simply walking instead of taking the escalators.

Case in point HERE.

Regardless, consider the unnecessarily complex spring/air-cushion 'technologies' in daily footwear. Yes, they may make you feel all light, bouncy, and fluffy, but they're promoting ineffective bodily motion, carelessness, and foot disabilities.

This in turn creates something of a counter-culture which moves to the other extreme. The Vibrams are a prime example, promoting barefoot exercise while maintaining a certain degree of protection for the soles of your feet-- precisely what our ancestors intended when developing the first 'shoe'.

Personally, I feel that the best option would be something of a compromise between the two-- similar to how Feiyues mold to the foot, providing both protection and tactile perception, while resembling a typical shoe.

Thanks for the kudos!

Yep, there're ankle versions, and probably higher versions than the ones that I posted. I don't know if the supplier I listed has those in stock though, you'd have to check and look around a bit.
