MN Jams / The U has decided not to allow parkour training on campus
« on: May 09, 2009, 05:47:40 PM »
So the U has decided not to allow the University Parkour and Free Running Enthusiasts to train on campus. I have attached the .pdf they have attached in their email to us. The group is currently deciding our next move and will notify the community as soon as we have an idea of what to do next.

Sincerely Tyler :'(

I'm also in st. Louis park, and went searching for the spots discussed in this post, but I couldn't see the training areas you were speaking of.  Any chance for some more detail?

No problem, if you want to run together i am almost done with school so i will have some free time soon. The areas themselves are wolf park, around Hoigards in Miracle mile, and the hospital parking structures mostly.

Hello,  so how many people  are we talking about here? ( in st.paul)

Why does it matter. In stead of asking how many people there are, set up a Jam and then you will be able to take a physical head count of people who are willing to come and train with you. Honestly most of us are from the burbs and would be happy to drive or bus into the city for some training and fun. So if you ask me if i am in st. paul my answer will always be NO. However if you ask if i can and want to train in St. Paul the answer is YES. So set up a Jam and lets do this thing.

done  ( most of the questions  are irrelevant to parkour, )

I'm sorry Meka are you taking this class? Who are you to say what is and is not relevant to this individual and their project. What i am trying to say here is be nice. Your insinuation is that his survey isn't worth taking because it fails to address the topic. I personally enjoyed the survey and was happy to take a follow up survey that asked in more detail my affiliation with the parkour community.

P.S. I am looking forward to seeing how you interpret this data. It would be nice if you would post your final project online.

I looked up an Ojibwe to English dictionary and looked up the word flow. I choose one that was short, looked cool and meant 'flow out'. I don't know anything about anything about this, but i thought it might be a good idea. Problem is i don't even know how to pronounce it. ;D

I'll try my best to get Atmosphere seeing as everyone really is into it.

Atmosphere rocks and they have a pretty strong Minnesota mentality. I would think that both artists would be on board if we explained to them who and what we are. And i really think that "say shhh" would be excellent song and i am glad everyone else  enjoys it too. I think that a lot of other Parkour videos pick really up-beat, in your face, not-in-the-least-bit-humble hardcore I'm better than you music. It would fit Minnesota to have a quite, strong and most importantly humble song. And this ones about Minnesota and done by a Minnesotan artists, can't get any better than that.

I recommend Atmospheres hidden Minnesota song on the album "god loves ugly" it is at the end of the last song 'always coming back home to you'. It has one of my favorite lines every, 'if the people laugh and giggle when you tell them where your from, say shhhh say shhhhh,  and if you can drink tap water and breath the air say shhhhh say shhhh.'

and he calls it Minnesnowta, which is just plain awsome.

*edit*

its called 'say shh'

As a side note, we are thinking of opening up an open gym time specifically for freerunning/parkour.  It'd be $10 just like the regular open gym for 2 hours of playing around.  We'd probably set up an obstacle course type thing as well as different things to train on that would change from week to week.

awesome, yes yes it does. I can't afford much more than $10 and as much as i love your teaching Chad i really want to take advantage of the space without getting tied down in lines of n00bs. Not that there is anything wrong with that, i just want to be able to hit an obstacle 50 or 60 times not 5 or 6.

Adam is the president and the one who set it up, so he knows all of the details. However, he isn't on APK yet.

I am the Vice-president and created the constitution with Adam. Honestly we created the group as a way or legitimizing parkour on campus. Everything that i have been trying to do Adam and I have been talking about. I will try to get him on here to post but you aren't going to get any different information from him than you have from me, unless its his own ideas... which i have no control over.
