I'll see what I can do. Maybe I can convince my bro to get me up there.

You can try wrapping a cushion on top of an open door for hand comfort and do pull-ups on your door. Or you can latch your fingers onto the frame of a door and go for it. However, I am not responsible if either of those break while performing these.
Good idea, thanks!
I got the iron gym for about 25 bucks.  Not a bad buy if you really have no other choice.
Thanks! I'll look into it.

I'll get there, once I get a car on the road. Thanks for the response

APK Academy Workout of the Day / 2/24/2010 WOD question

Hey. I'm in upstate new york and we got some nasty weather comming tonight and even more unfortunate, I don't have any bars in the house that I can use to do the pull ups. Is there any alternatives that I could try? They closed off the weight room this week at my school(moving new stuff in there)
And where can I buy a bar that I can install in my home? Like where would be the best place to find one.

Hey guys, I'm just making myself known to the NYPK crowd.
A little bit about myself;
My name is Eric Scouten, currently at Hornell High School. For those who might not know where Hornell is, the best I can say that it's about an hour away from Corning NY, due NW. And its around 60 miles South of Rochester NY (About an hour and 30min)
I'm somewhat of a beginner at parkour, but I originally started in Summer 2009 and I worked on some basic techniques such as the roll, landing, precision, a few of the various vaults. I stopped participating at some point after the summertime ended because I didn't really have many people interested in the area or dedicated to it so I practiced alone the majority of the time. I got back into it just recently because I need to get back into shape and what not since I'm joining the National Guard, and the most enjoyable way I thought of getting to that goal is getting back into parkour.
Of course now I need a new pair of K-Swiss Ariakes xD

Anyway, here I am. Drop a reply down if you'd like or get at my email.

If I make it to Hawaii, I'm definately hitting some trails xD
I'm aware of the NYPK scene up here, but the biggest problem is my location in NY. I'm not from the big city and the closest community that I know of is Rochester PK but I haven't been able to connect with them yet, but once I get a license (Getting that this March) and a set of wheels, I should be able to make trips around New York. When people think of New York, they think of the city. But where I live, people want to call Hornell, my home, a city but the thing about this place is that it's much more rural than it is urban because most of the buildings are spread apart.

1. I'm 17 right now, but I will be 18 by the time spring break rolls around.
2. The closest thing I can say that I had background in "movement" is just general monkeying around. Summer 2009 I was interested in parkour for the duration of the summer and was actually trying out a few basic things such as the roll, landing, precision, some of the various vaults(Day i did the kong was probably the peak of that summer).
3. Not in college.
4. I used to be a gamer but after a while, i realized that gaming is just getting much more boring to me. Aside from that, I play guitar and keyboard.
5. The whole reason I started PK, aside from inspiration from you guys, was to get into shape. Doing conventional workout routines just end up being really repetitive and boring. What I see from PK is a lot of versatility. Recently, what got me back into PK was that right now i'm joining the military and I found it the best way for me to stay in shape.
6. I usually train on the street, outside of the YMCA(Its a hotspot of mine), and down at the park there's plenty of benches to work with. There is two gyms that I know of but unfortunately both of them are pretty small.

A few reasons why I choose Hawaii in the first place (And not Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; its where everyone from here goes for Spring Break) is more for just the adventure. I've been in the East coast for my entire life so far so I'm some what curious about going to the West coast. Likely on some of the days, I'll absorb much of the scenery because we have nothing like it over here.

As for parkour, HIPK was the primary reason I was inspired to start in the first place(funny because I'm from New York) and it wouldn't hurt to absorb some insight from you guys. Overall just the experience of practicing with other people who are interested in parkour should be able to motivate me even more to stay with it.
Kind of short on time this morning, so sorry if this isn't really exquisite or anything xD

I'm sure someone might know around here. Lol if not, well I'll have to do some rigorous research about the area or just save a buttload of money so I know id have enough for something. xD I might miss a few days of school, but its the cheapest flight and its nothing that I can't make up aye.

Hope you guys are still paying attention to this thread xD
I'm planning on going to Oahu for spring break this year. Hopefully I can gather around enough money but as far as I see it, it's a go.
Here's the info:
Eric Scouten - From New York (~60miles South of Rochester) - shootin for 4/15/10 to 4/24/10 - I'll be ready to train at anytime, its what I came for =) - No media
If you guys know where I can find a cheap(in price) place to stay in Oahu or can spot me a place, please reply right away or get at my email at the end of this post =) Anything is appreciated.

As for my parkour history, I started doing parkour back in Summer 2009 but my motivation to continue faultered for a few months and now just recently I'm beginning to get back into it, as long as the snow isn't that bad xD I should be back into shape before I come for my trip and I knew a few vaults and what not, but I never had a chance to utilize them in a "flow" like manner. I graced the concept of Free Running with the palm spin, but that was pretty much it. I didn't have many friends who were at least as consistent as I was back then so I've learned and practiced a lot of what I know alone. If I make the trip, the experience for me especially will be a tremendous motivator and just having the chance to meet you guys would be a pleasure.

Thanks! Hope to hear from you soon

Anyone in the Steuben County area?

I live in Steuben County.. Hornell. About 60 miles south of Rochester. I'm just a beginner and from what I've seen in my town, there isn't much but plentiful benches, rails, and walls. But isn't as urban as I wish it would be. I haven't exactly found a 'hotspot' yet, but I'm sure there's one SOMEWHERE. Anyone close to Hornell?
