Socialize / What kind of jobs do pros have?
« on: February 04, 2011, 06:24:05 PM »
Like David Belle(and friends) do commercials, but i don't think ill have that kinda opportunity anytime soon (nor do i really want to, just saying), but i don't want a service job, and i don't care if i have a 6 digit $$ making career, i just need/want enough to survive and do parkour, travel, etc, but my dilemma is that idk what the hell kinda job i should get, hence the question of.. What kind of jobs do the pros have?

So im asking fellow traceurs for advice because I'm a bit lost in life at the current moment because I'm only 19 and everyone around me is making it seem like i need to do this or that or else and idk.... like i said I'm just askin fellow traceurs for advice and maybe some words of wisdom because I'm lost on what to do  :-\

and I'm not saying i want to be a bum and just sit at home all day, i just don't feel like having to worry about $$ and debt. Basically i don't like the system we have but I'm in the system and i have to do SOMETHING because i need $$ for food/water/clothing. but i look at my family and they are all having money issues. I don't want that, i want to be free. i have no want for a car/house/phone/television/internet/electronics. Because that means i HAVE to make a certain amount of money. so any advice?

I finally figured out how to do my roll! 1 and a half years later  :) now i can start conditioning for higher drops (safety first off course)

It felt so good though, I finally can feel the flow of it. feels so natural when you finally get it

that's about it, just felt like sharing with you guys  :D

...And i really had no idea what was causing it.

Basically every time I'd take a step while walking i could feel a sharp pain in my right knee, so i would stop and see if i could fix it but the problem persisted. I figured it wasn't anything serious so i just continued to walk/run on it for a while (for some reason it didn't hurt as much when i ran). Anyways so about a week ago i was walking my dog and my knee REALLY started to hurt. So i went home and sat down and tried to see if i could locate the issue.

I couldn't find anything wrong with it so i took my mothers advice and just rested. The next day my leg was much better (just a little tender).

So i had this theory that it was my shoes that were doing it. IDK why i just felt like that had something to do with it. So today I decided to do a little experiment. I put on my shoes that had the least padding in the sole(my vans) and went to go work out. To my liking I went the entire day not having ANY knee pains while walking or running. So tonight i took my dog for a walk and used some regular Globe skate shoes. In a matter of 30 steps my knee started to ache, so i took my shoes off and walked barefoot(i had socks on) for about a good 15 minutes and the knee pain went away. So i tried my asics running shoes (which i almost always wear when exercising or walking my dog) and the same thing happened.

so all along it was the shoes that was making my knee hurt(WTF)  :( Idk if this is just me or not, but regardless i cant wear any of my shoes anymore  :-\

Sorry if there's other topics like this i just felt like sharing my story. :)

EDIT: forgot to add the pain was in the back of my knee

« on: August 30, 2010, 10:38:27 AM »
Was wondering if anyone knew of any really good flow videos, like showing a 15 sec straight of someone going through  it like assassins creed style or like that movie district 13 but real life.

I saw a video once and i dont remember his name but it was the best video ive seen because it wasn't him trickin but rather going through a " course". the video was about 4 minutes and it had really great flow.

General Fitness / muscles are tired and weak?
« on: May 30, 2010, 08:32:26 AM »
I get enough protein calcium vitamins etc but i my muscles seem to almost be getting weaker?

I was able to do 25 push ups and about 5 pull ups about 2 months ago but now it seems like i can barely do 5 push ups and like maybe 2 pull ups.

I really don't know why i seem to have no energy and my muscles are somewhat weak and tired. Any ideas?

I get about 6-8 hours of sleep a night and walk/ run every morning( my running is the only thing that's actually improved[i think])

Parkour And Freerunning / Would you free run to save the world?
« on: May 30, 2010, 08:22:49 AM »
If mirrors edge storyline(or any other similar book/movie/game) was like real life would you risk your life running on high buildings if it meant you were doing the right thing even if it was against the law and the cops would chase you and throw you in jail or die?

If you don't know the mirrors edge storyline here are the 4 parts....

I think i would risk my life for the cause  :)

First MTV. They say at the beginning of the show not to try anything that they do, but doesn't that make people think they aren't capable of free running? Then there's all those people on the sidelines clapping constantly, shaking their heads wondering how the hell they are doing it thinking they can't, but in reality EVERYONE is capable of doing parkour. Maybe not the double front flips into rolls and what not, but thats tricking not parkour(i think there's a difference). The people competing even say that doing this will make it more popular. Yes more popular to watch. not to do. Plus like people have said before, parkour is not meant to be competitive and all that.

Second all these different video games like mirrors edge and assassins creed make kids look at it and say wow i WISH i could do that. When in reality once again EVERYONE is capable of doing it. Maybe if they weren't sitting there playing it or watching it, they could be outside actually living it. Same thing goes for movies. It puts the thought into peoples minds that they will never be that good or could never actually do it because its in a movie or game.

I personally found out about it after playing assassins creed and i saw a youtube video of "real life assassins creed" and i said to myself WOW i didnt know people could actually do that. but most kids even after seeing real people doing it still think "well ill never be able to do that" so they go play video games.

I'm not trying to generalize everyone, but from my experience there are a lot of people that do that.

David Belle says that the true capability of the human body still hasn't been discovered. Well it never will be if half the population thinks its only in movies and video games.

My point is that the more popular it gets, the more people will try it for wrong reasons or not try it at all. And MTV of all things is only putting it on TV so they can make money. Look at everything else thats on MTV. Drugs sex money. Think about it, MTV is horrible. Why should we let them ruin parkour for more people.

The media in my opinion is ruining parkour. I dunno if i explained this as best as i could but its hard for me to throw all my thoughts together sometimes.

I was in my kondo complex. There are these heroin dealers on the other side. So in my dream i was fighting them and running for my life. There came a point where they almost killed my dog so i went to find who did it. I found the guy and he pulled out a gun and started chasing me and trying to shoot me. My complex somehow turned into a mall and i started free running and escaping from this guy. First i vaulted over 3 things, then i had to run up a wall and then i jumped off of this wall and rolled so perfectly and i definitely escaped  :) although it was just a dream it was really epic so i thought I'd share.

Diet / is anyone else here a vegetarian/vegan?
« on: May 13, 2010, 04:11:05 PM »
because i am and i was wondering if anyone had any experience doing parkour on a vegetarian diet.

I don't eat eggs or milk unless its already in something im going to eat.(veggie burgers, fake chicken etc.) so i guess im closer to vegan?

I don't have any issues as far as protein or calcium goes and i seem to be doing just fine as far as energy goes. If i have to eat meat ill eat fish because i actually enjoy sushi, but it messes with my stomach because its not used to eating it so i prefer not to. I get enough protein from tofu, soy, beans etc. and i take a calcium supplement.

So yeah I'm still a beginner to parkour so any feedback would help because i seem to be doing fine now but if a problem may occur in the future it would be good to know now =]

Arizona / Where is a good place to practice in phoenix?
« on: May 13, 2010, 10:54:11 AM »
i live at 40th st and union hills and then sometimes at 11th ave and bell, i was just wondering if there are any spots around that are good to practice at. I know that local parks are good because of the playground equipment but I'm having trouble finding a good place that has rails to vault and walls to climb and etc.

I'm 5'4" and im 18 years old, i don't know if that would change anything.
