Parkour And Freerunning / Letters to the Editor
« on: February 01, 2010, 05:35:23 PM »
I'm doing a parkour magazine for my computer class project. I need some help. Most people make everything up, but I want mine to be as realistic as possible. I'd like it to be a real use-able magazine for you guys. One of the sections is "Letters to the Editor." I would love it if you guys (and girls) could help me out. It doesn't take much, just one or two sentences asking me a question about mostly anything. Try to keep it parkour related, though. (For example: "Brandon, what is your biggest inspiration?" "What made you want to do parkour?") Stuff you would ask the editor of your favorite magazine to get to know them better. It can be asking for advice, background, etc. Thanks guys.

Movement / What is your favorite movement? (Out of these)
« on: February 01, 2010, 03:02:48 PM »
Since the last attempt at this was too vague, I'll narrow it down. Choose a movement from the list that is your favorite. If you want, tell me why. I'm making a poll for a project in my computer class, so I need all the answers I can get.

Monkey Vault-7

Speed Vault-3

Lazy Vault-4

Wall Run (Vertical)-4

Wall Run (Horizontal)-3

Roll-1

Cat Leap-5

Underbar-1

Parkour And Freerunning / Need Help with Class Project (Magazine)
« on: January 27, 2010, 10:02:24 AM »
My class project is to make a magazine. I'm basing mine on parkour. It's called Le Parkour (for the moment).
-Cover: Me in a tree, relating to the main topic.
-Main Article: Going natural with your training. (Natural Method/MovNat style) It will include my workout, reasons to train like that, and some pointers.
-Sub Article 1: Favorite Movements Poll     I need some help creating this poll. It would be great if you guys could vote on the thread I made for it. ( http://www.americanparkour.com/smf/index.php/topic,23937.0.html )
-Sub Article 2: Interview with a Traceur     If you would let me interview you, go to the thread I made for it. ( http://www.americanparkour.com/smf/index.php/topic,23938.msg290569.html#new )
-Other: This isn't enough for the 12 page minimum. This is where you guys come in. If you think of something that I should wright about, this is the thread for it. If you want to wright an article yourself, send me a message with a quick summary of what it would be about.

          - Thanks,
                    Brandon

General Fitness / Exercises You Can Do Outside
« on: January 23, 2010, 11:43:05 AM »
I lift weights every other day. I plan on it staying that way. I want to do some of my working out outside. That means no weights, no gym equipment, etc. I want to spend about an hour each day doing stuff outside. I know the basic push ups, sit ups, etc. But we all know that the basics get boring after a while. If I'm bored doing it, I'll end up quitting. So I was wondering if any of you knew of some exercises that can be done with no specific equipment.

Training Journals / Brandon Dean - 2010 Training
« on: January 19, 2010, 04:35:50 AM »
Since it is the new year, I will start a new journal.

For the next few months, I am putting myself through a self-inflicted conditioning boot camp.

Boot Camp

Schedule:
5:00 a.m.     Wake Up
5:30 a.m.     Workout
6:30 a.m.     Breakfast
7:00 a.m.     School
4:00 p.m.     Workout
7:00 p.m.     Homework
8:45 p.m.     Go to Sleep
(Sundays are off days.)

Morning Workout (M/W/F):
Jog 1 Mile
Dumbbell Routine

Afternoon Workout (Su/Tu/Th/Sa):
Natural Method Routine

I will be doing little to no parkour-specific training during these next few months. I am getting my body ready for the strength needed in parkour. I will make updates to this journal every once in a while to show my progress, but I will not be using the internet much. Wish me luck.

Parkour And Freerunning / Should I do track?
« on: January 16, 2010, 07:46:02 PM »
First things first; I am not a fast runner, good jumper, or anything special really. I have no special physical ability. All I have is dedication. I could definitely see how doing track might help me improve when it comes to parkour. But that's what I would be doing it for. I wouldn't be any good when it came to competition.
The track coach at my school is a teacher that I despise. I would constantly get shown up because only good people do track at my school. So should I do it? If I did I would probably do hurdles, long jump, etc. At least that's what I would practice.

Parkour And Freerunning / Good Odd Jobs for Traceurs
« on: January 06, 2010, 07:29:42 PM »
I know threads like this have been posted before, but I'd like to go in depth a bit more. Usually when people ask about jobs involving parkour, the common (and sometimes only) answers are police, military, or stunt men. I'm thinking more along the lines of jobs that you could get around your neighborhood that would either benefit your training or be benefited by your capabilities.
I am unhappy with the job I am in at the moment. (Bagging groceries at a grocery store near my house) I can't stand the work environment, get paid in nothing but small and scarce tips, and am constantly frustrated with the boredom and lack of fulfillment. I bet I'm not the only one out there like this.
I want to brainstorm some ideas for odd jobs that could make some spare money. Let's say you're a student, so you can only work afternoons and weekends. They should also be jobs close enough to get to without a car. Ideas?

What I've Thought of So Far:

Package Courier (Like in Mirror's Edge) - You carry small to medium sized packages either from house to house or to a nearby post office for those who either don't want to get outside or need to deliver it that the postal service would be inefficient.
Dog Walker - Pretty self explanatory. Running helps with overall fitness.
~Will add more as they come along.~

Socialize / My Persuasive Parkour Speech
« on: December 03, 2009, 07:12:46 AM »
Hey guys. I'm doing a persuasive speech in my communications applications class. I'm trying to persuade people to keep an open mind and see things like a traceur. My last speech was over parkour, so I think this will tie in great. Any suggestions for content?

Alabama / ?Winter Break Jam? (AL and Surrounding States)
« on: December 02, 2009, 07:41:49 PM »
Come on guys. Every time I go to Alabama for a school break, my parkour goes NOWHERE. I have nobody to train with. So I say we organize a jam and scope out some hot spots. I don't care if you are from Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, etc. You could be from Washington for all I care! I just want to jam, and I want to jam in my home state. It's time sweet home Alabama got some sweet attention!

Parkour And Freerunning / Black Friday = Ultimate Oppurtunity
« on: November 26, 2009, 09:14:37 AM »
Okay. Today is Thanksgiving. (Happy Thanksgiving!) If you are normal, you are about to eat, and eat a LOT. So what do we do about that extra 10 pounds we put on in one hour? Hell Day!!!! I declare tomorrow, Black Friday, a perfect oppurtunity for a Hell Day. For those of you who don't know what it is, you go out and train like normal. But you train at a higher intensity and for a longer time. It's all about finding your limits and getting over them. So good luck all!

Parkour And Freerunning / Parkour Graffiti Art Ideas
« on: November 25, 2009, 02:57:13 PM »
I just got in my shipment of Montana Alien Spraypaint. I want to test it out on a canvas I have. I want to do a parkour-graffiti crossover since I'm in to both. Any ideas?
