Parkour And Freerunning / philosophy poem discussion and perhaps challenge?
« on: February 05, 2008, 12:04:59 PM »
Who might go so far?
Into the void be it void.
That we may know more.

This is a haiku i wrote in response to the poem prompt for american gladiators.  Dumb yes but i thought the idea was cool and think itd be cool to hear some others.

Colorado / The dream of Ninja Warrior
« on: July 24, 2007, 06:54:14 PM »
As many of you may know G4 has a tv show known as ninja warrior.  It is an obstacle course competition show from japan.  G4 is currently having a video contest to determine a worthy american competitor which they will send to japan to compete on the Ninja warrior television show.  To win that contest would basically fulfill mine and many others childhood dreams.  Unfortunately for many you have to be twenty one to enter.  I am 23, yay.  I also have the other qualifications to and include the ability to devestate that show.  the gods honest actual potential to be the third to complete it and the first american ever.  I am sure that there are many other worthy competitors and may the best man win.

More to the point.  on thursday i will be filming a large segment of the entrant video for this contest this thursday at conditioning class.  Anyone interested in participating would be greatly appreciated and hopefully it will be a great time and tons of fun.  any other training oppurtunities and or ideas are also appreciated.  the contest ends on monday so lets be prompt with good i deas please.

My scheduling issues that were plaguing me are now a thing of the past.  Also strangely, the rocky mountain news wants to do an article on that day for the first one i can get back to so anyone out there who has been going or wants to start going, lets get out there this wednesday and give em a good show.  we did an article with them about two years ago and it was very newbie.  I would like to see the difference in the two articles and i really hope that we can have a positive contrast between the two.

As usual the meeting place is cat fountain at 1 pm.  thats when the news will get there and thats when I plan on starting warmup.

short notice and all but lets see what we can do.!?!?!!!!!!

CO Jams / weekly denver jams!?!?
« on: May 27, 2007, 12:44:13 AM »
yay! summer !
School is finally out.  Work must begin now unfortunately.  i do not have a concrete schedule yet but i will soon.  Several options present themselves as feasible.  First of all, saturdays are now open.  So open gym in aurora could be pretty bomb like it used to be.  Also daytime saturday jams are cool with me.  other days might be totally cool but there might be not cool.  Also to bring a glimmer of hope to our community.  im gonna ask my new boss if shes interested in having parkour class in her gym.  Her brand new deluxe sized trapeze gym.  (and by deluxe i mean decent)  but thats the current thoughts. any more thoughts from anyone else would be good so we can better coordinate times.

Colorado / some people may have noticed something different about me.
« on: April 18, 2007, 06:26:56 PM »
"The more you know, the less you need."--Aboriginal Saying
"Even shoes!!"--Me

this latest wednesday jam and some other days were days when i have been experimenting without shoes.  it kindof holds a guy back but thats not the point.  shoes change the dynamic between you and the ground/wall/rail/mouth.  without shoes you expose more nerve endings to the surface you are working on, this improves balance, spatial awareness and body/environmental understanding.  also, by walking barefoot your muscles in your feet that are normally supported by the use of shoes are forced to work to support you once again, thus building them up.

some things to be conscious of.  sharpness of things, when we evolved as humans things like glass concrete and steel did not exist.  these things can hurt us if not respected.  the less prior barefoot acclimation you have the longer it takes to get used to it.  like using muscles after not using them for a long time, so take it slow, one day or even hour at a time.  you can get a foot strain.  tetanus.  and tetanus.  have your shots and again be weary of surroundings.

fortunately after only a week of training up to it, and a whole life in the gym,  i did some barefoot parkour,  light barefoot parkour.  it is cool drops are out of the question, as are precisions for now and maybe forever, but it was cool.  my silence while moving was noted by others, i was so quiet that i didnt even notice.  in many ways it did feel much more natural and was a very much more down to earth thing.

CO Jams / weekly jams in denver on fridays!!
« on: March 05, 2007, 09:10:08 PM »
In addition to the jam at CU, there will be a jam at noon on fridays starting at cat fountain.  For any one who does not know where cat fountain is, it is located on 17th and Arapahoe in downtown denver.  there are many box structures and it is very easy to spot from 17th street.  For people in Denver it may be an easy alternative to driving to boulder or an oppurtunity to jam all day long!

« on: February 17, 2007, 06:06:50 PM »
been two weeks without class now but it hasnt been without work or without benefit.  the new equipment weve been talking about coming for forever finally got its funding and finally got its turn to get done.  its not the last equipment we will build but its safe to say it puts us ahead of any program in the country in what we offer to our classes.  it has been hard and difficult and we definately couldnt have done it without the help of a lot of really cool people.  so stay tuned formore details and for march 3rd our next class day.

Colorado / safety clinic this thursday
« on: November 28, 2006, 06:02:19 PM »
i know its snowing and thats why this post took so long. i had to rearrange my plans to allocate resources for the clinic.  now the clinic will be at metropolitan state college of denver inside the gym building.  if you wish to attend i reccommend parking at a light rail station as parking is rather expensive on campus.  light rail goes right to campus all lines go to one side or the other of auraria campus.  once there proceed to the gym.  once you get to the gym ask where the racketball courts are and we will be in the farthest one back in the hall.  there will be a moderate ruckus to follow.

the clinic will start at three pm and proceed until five, again on thursday the 30th.

topics covered will include
falling instruction and practice
spotting instruction and practice
mat usage and practice
surface discussion
informative shoe lecture
mind body awareness exercise

my school is super cool and has a contest where they give a team a dv camera and a g5 to use for making a movie in one week that will be entered into a contest.  winners recieve ipod nanos (teams are only four people big)  but casts can be huge.  so yeah im entering the contest.  id like to make a really funny five minute ninja extravaganza. the more people the better it just makes it that much more awesome.  if you have skills that is a plus if you dont thats cool too.  id really appreciate anyone who could help.  crowds would be super if thats possible but yeah this weekend is all there is basically.

Colorado / what kind of pants to match the shirts now?
« on: January 19, 2006, 12:14:05 PM »
i vote camos cause i like them and they do actually go well with any tan or brown or yellow shirt.  black always works good too.
maybe even pants with ur names on them somehow like down the side or something. anyways post yer thoughts.  that way any big jam we have we can look super sharp,  and turn some more heads than we allready do also more positively than those guys are crazy.

Lexicon / slide vault
« on: November 16, 2005, 12:51:43 PM »
a term coined by demon describing a lazy vault (legs swing) over the top of something inclined and sliding down the other side.

Lexicon / stall vault
« on: November 16, 2005, 12:29:42 PM »
this vault is done like in breakdancing the stall is a freeze motion after a big motion.  so instead of a vault you stop in a planche or a handstand, whatever your pleasure. then after a pause continue the motion like it didn't happen.

Lexicon / roll vault
« on: November 16, 2005, 12:22:38 PM »
just roll over something usually a table or something. quick and efficient way to get across things.

Lexicon / sideways vault
« on: November 16, 2005, 12:15:37 PM »
not a side vault/ the sideways vault is done completely sideways one hand or a one hand at a time.  run skip or stand into a sideays stance, with one hand propel yourself over an obstacle with your feet under you.  excellent for cartwheels r landings at 90 degree angles.
