Interesting class you've got going there Mark.  I have to be honest, it was pretty funny watching you all go across the floor using those awkward movements.  Not trying to be mean, but I couldn't help but laugh.

Anywho, I was wondering if you ever use all those movements in your parkour, or was that more of a crossfit oriented exercise?  After talking to a Crossfit gym owner I know you guys like doing things that "suck."  Why do you teach movement that does not work well for humans?  I understand if that Crossfit's style, but it makes me cringe when the video is labeled as "Crossfit Parkour QM drills."  Most of what was shown really has no useful place in parkour.  Of course if you think otherwise I'm open to hearing your opinion.  As a teacher myself, I am always looking for useful methods.

Parkour And Freerunning / Hooked On Outdoors Article - A Step Backwards
« on: October 24, 2006, 04:58:48 AM »
Parkour needs positive media that spreads understanding.  After reading the Hooked On Outdoors Article I realized that it was a step in the wrong direction.  Since M2 and Gear are saying it was “favorable” and “quite good” I really feel I need to speak up.  I know I have had some bad articles in the past, but I would never act like they were good if I knew otherwise. The Pulse Magazine for example  They flat out lied to me about what they would write, but then I tore the article apart on my website as well as theirs.  So here are some things I did not like about this recent article in Hooked On Outdoors.

"Euro-kookiness" - Quite lame, and not taking us seriously.

“and leaping across the rooftops” – That’s not a good thing to have in the title…or in any part of the article.  Very bad press.

“Skateboarding without the skateboard” - A step backwards.  Every article I do, I tell the writer not to say that (doesn't always work.).  That explanation hinders understanding.

"Others call it super-hero running, Euro foolishness—or just plain nuts" - Not taking us seriously again.  Parkour is a serious discipline with philosophy behind it...not foolishness.

“a running and jumping game” – No! It is not a game!  This article keeps getting worse with every line!  Again they are spreading misunderstanding.

“Parkour, often called free running in the US” – Didn’t we just get this all sorted out?  They are two different things.

“the mental challenge defines parkour. As you're free running…” – Again, why are they calling parkour and freerunning the same thing?  That is another thing I clear up with every writer who asks me for an interview.

“It’s very easy to overlook the philosophy behind it and just focus on the flips and flashier moves” – This quote suggests that flips and flashy moves are part of parkour, which they are not.

Hooked On The Outdoors did an absolutely horrible job with this article.  This is easily the worst article since the early days.  Like M2 said, they ripped 3 year old quotes.  It’s as if they wrote this entire article 3 years ago.

From IwishIcould – “Was their purpose to make me cry? Cause it worked.”

From Gear – “IwishIcould...are you serious? The only downside I saw to the article was the opening quote. The rest was quite good. The bullies in your school must have a great time with you...”

Jesse, are you serious?  IwishIcould is right.  This is a very disheartening article, especially for me.  I’ve been trying very hard to avoid letting bad media like this come out.  And the part about the bullies…mean and unnecessary.  You ought to apologize.

Parkour And Freerunning / Freerun Energy
« on: February 10, 2006, 07:39:32 AM »
For those of you who have come across the product Freerun Energy, I would like you to know that it was done without my consent and I can't speak further about it right now.  I know that it is vague, but I would also like to ask for everyone's moral support in hopes that justice will be served.

your humble parkour servant,

Socialize / T-Shirt Design
« on: January 27, 2006, 04:59:14 PM »
Here is a shot of the t-shirt I just made along with the design I made on photo shop.

I wanted to keep the lines simple because I painted it freehand with a little brush.  The photo doesn't show it that well, but it came out great.  Its the Boston skyline (where my Parkour journey began), incorporated with a heart monitor signal, because Parkour runs through my veins!!! ;D

I hope those poor little kids don't try some of these things.  They'll get their arms ripped out of their sockets.
