Socialize / how many times have you laughed today?
« on: January 12, 2010, 08:17:12 PM »
i carry a pad of paper and a pencil with me everywhere.  a few days ago, i decided to use it to count my laughs every day and try to laugh harder the next.  i laughed so hard yesterday and today, that i thought i'd start sharing it
i broke laughing down into a few cataorgies:
  • smile - something barely registers as funny
  • chuckle - really weak laugh
  • laugh
  • rofl - rolling on the floor in tears, clutching my sides

yesterday - laughed 22 times, chuckled 32 and smiled 4 times.  most of that happened in the same hour.  at the height of it, i was retelling two jokes in my head

so far today - laughed 25 times, chuckled 35 and smiled 14.  remembering myself laughing, picturing other people laughing and imaging getting tickled are setting me off today.  i also keep imagining that behind every door that i open there will be a little old lady that jumps at me yelling gibberish about rasberries (37 chuckles)

anybody else want to join in and post about the thoughts that make them laugh?  or we can have a contest to see who can laugh the most in a single day?  even if you lose, you'll feel better for trying

Training Journals / J'aun's qm log
« on: January 05, 2010, 08:52:39 AM »
i started running for the first time in my life about 13 months ago.  soon after, i started searching for exercises that would allow me to "walk" with my arms and put my upper body under the same stress as my lower body when running.  i stumbled across parkour and with a little more research, i learned about qm.  the other stuff about parkour is interesting, but qm is really the strongest reason that i'm here

my long term goal is to quadrupedally run 5 - 10 kilometers.  quadrupedally, i can't even walk that distance and i don't have the strength to run at all.  so i've got some work ahead of me.
short term goals.  build up my endurance and walk farther.  build my strength to walk faster and eventually build up to running.  track the number of days it takes me to cumulatively reach 1 kilometer and do it faster.  learn to look forward more than down.  don't let my form deteriorate once i begin to fatigue

*i count once every four steps and every step is about a foot.  so 1 km is about 3280 feet and a count of 820
yesterday
qm - [warm-up; 6, 7], 7 sets of 13          cumulative - 104/820

today
qm - [warm-up; 6, 7, 13] 2 sets of 26, one 39          cumulative - 221/820

broke my old record of 30 today.  so i'm raising the standard after my warm-up from 13 to 26.  hopefully, in a week or two, i can try for several sets of 39

Delaware / iron hill park/ playground - dec 5, 1:00 pm
« on: December 04, 2009, 07:00:36 PM »
i live in cecil county maryland, but the other parkour guys are 3 hours away in dc/ frederick.  rather than travel to them, i'll just play in delaware.  its much closer.  so i'll start my exploration of delaware at the iron hill park/ playground.
i'll be wandering around tomorrow (saturday december 5) around 1 pm to 3.  the snow and such may stop me from actually practicing much parkour.  just want to look around and see if this particular park is a good place to practice in the future.
coworker tells me i should also check out glasgow.  maybe next week

anyway, its really short notice, but if anybody wants to come out and meet me or show me around, then you can use my cell to track me down (443 299 2277) and we'll wander towards each other

« on: April 16, 2009, 11:47:26 AM »
when - sunday, 1pm to 3 or whatever

I wait around there until 1:10, then move on to the big stairwell behind harford technical high school to warm up for 15 - 20 minutes.  From there, we go to the playground between harford tech and john archer for another 15 minutes.  Beyond that, we wander around and practice whatever anyone wants to work on
