Injuries - Discussion / Injured both arms during negative pull up
« on: May 16, 2011, 10:15:14 AM »
I searched but couldn't find anything similar to what I seem to be experiencing.  I attempted a negative pull up which ended disastrously.  Immediately after I had sharp pain in both of my arms from what I've been able to guess is the Deltoid lateral.  Now I could be wrong on that.  The pain is coming from right about where the shoulder stops, between the bicep and tricep.  Pretty much on the side of the arm.

Now I'm going to lay off even doing the assisted pull ups until further notice.  I didn't detect any inflammation but I iced them both down as soon as I could anyway just in case.  Now my arms seem ok for the most part.  Earlier I attempted putting on a jacket at work which caused a considerable amount of discomfort in the injured area of my arms.

Just wondering due to a lack of inflammation if I should move on to heating them or if I should ice them down some more after work? Or if some other action is recommended all together?

Since I'm at work I'm unable to include a picture pointing out where I'm feeling the pain, so please let me know if more details are needed.

Women / Female friend possibly interested in Parkour.
« on: May 02, 2011, 10:30:52 AM »
Ok, I'm sorry for intruding but this seemed like the best place to ask considering.

I have a lady friend, who while talking with her has expressed interest in Parkour.  But I think she's just intimidated my the mostly (at the moment) male dominated activity, at least in our area. So there has never been an official "I'll come out and train" discussion.

My question to you ladies. Are there are any located near the Tampa, Fl area who wouldn't mind showing her the ropes a bit?  If I let her know there are some tracueces she can learn with, she might actually do it.  I don't know for sure.  I still need to talk with her but I'm hoping that she'll like the idea.  I'm already on the forums so I thought I'd go ahead and ask.

Thanks in advance ladies!  ;D

So... what ever happened to that website you guys once upon a time talked about?  Not that it's a big deal, I'm just mostly socializing here, thought I'd bring it up.

Parkour And Freerunning / I'm getting tired of flips in video's.
« on: April 30, 2011, 12:02:17 PM »
First I'd like to say I have nothing against flips.  I think flips are nice, they do look cool and a few in a video is alright.  But more and more I'm seeing video's being posted where that's all someone is doing!  I don't care to watch you do the same flip for five minutes...

I'm on a picnic table, flip!  I'm on a bench, flip! I'm on another table, flip!  Now lets cut to me on top of a building but lets not show how I got up here cause what I'm about to do is more important... flip!  Okay now let me go back to that table and back flip!  Yeah thought I was going to just flip again didn't you?  Well I'm crazy like that.

Again I'm not saying flips are bad, but once you've showed me the flip and back flip lets see some other stuff.  If all you wanted to do was show off your flips then at least include that in your description.

I want to see people cat hang, tic tac up walls, kong vault, monkey vault.  I'd like some variety.

If you can flip I have respect for you I seriously do, because I can't flip.  Maybe I'm alone in this issue, but I figured I'd mention it.

Socialize / Any Whovians out there? (Doctor Who)
« on: April 27, 2011, 01:13:02 AM »
Anybody watch Doctor Who?  I'm not talking about the old ones from 1960 - 1980 something.  The new one that's been on air for the past six years?

I love the show honestly.  For one it's a nice look at another culture, because it's a show from the UK.  Secondly, it's one of the best examples of good fun science fiction/fantasy.

The new season started last saturday (here in America anyway)  :)

Gorilla PK / I'm so sore!
« on: April 26, 2011, 10:58:00 PM »
Man, it's been a while since I hit the weights in the Gym.  I got back into a cardio routine a few weeks back, but it's been a month or so since I did anything with the weights.  So, after doing a full body workout, I have a full body ache!  lol.  It's ok, nothing serious.  I've experienced what it's like to work out so much that I couldn't bend my legs for two weeks!  Not with out a lot slow, meticulous effort.  Needless to say, driving to work was a pain.  :P

This is just your everyday soreness after a good workout, feels good, means I'm improving.

Gorilla PK / I'm back!

Hey guys I have returned... more or less.

I stopped with parkour when I began to develop a problem with my knee.  I had other problems as well, like a dead car.  But when I stopped parkour I stopped coming here too, not sure why.

Well now things are looking better.  But I seriously need to get my weight down before I truly get back into things.  Trying to do things like wall climbs and whatnot is what caused the knee pains to begin with.  At at a whopping 318 lbs, it's no wonder why.

So I've decided that untill I get the weight down, probably to at least 250.  I should stay away from anything like jumping.  I'm not sure what else I could train related to parkour anyway that wont impact my knees.  If you guys have any ideas throw em my way.

Mostly I'm gonna focus on cardio, with some weight training.  But my main factor I need to get down is what I eat.  I know what I need to eat and I know what I need to do to ensure I eat that way.  But it's so hard sometimes to say not order a pizza when you're craving one.  Thus far that has been my biggest hurdle in my quest for a slimmer, more parkour friendly me.  Damn my lack of will power. lol.

Anyway it's good to be back guys!

« on: August 21, 2010, 10:00:56 AM »
Or the Tampa area for that matter, it would be kinda cool to meet up with a fellow GPK member.  If not I'll be proud to represent us in the area.  I'll be the Tampa/Florida GPK Ambassador!  lol.

Florida / Man this board is quiet
« on: August 11, 2010, 07:46:30 AM »
I don't see much interaction here on this board.  You guys mingling elsewhere or what?  Anyway, I'd love a chance to meet up with some of you guys in the Tampa area.  I'm willing to travel too, but not too far.  I hear about that 360 place but is it still running?  I'd hate to drive out there and no one is around. lol.

Florida / Anybody out in the Tampa area today?
« on: August 08, 2010, 08:02:54 AM »
I know there is a Tampa topic already but no one seems to be there, so I figured I'd start a new topic asking anybody.  I've got the day off and I would love to go out and train with some people out in the Tampa area.  I live in Brandon but I can travel.

My email is: if anyone feels like dropping me a line. :)

Training Journals / Awesome Man Training Log
« on: January 02, 2008, 08:13:28 PM »
Well, I took my first steps, albeit very small, into Parkour today.  I have a membership at this gym called L.A. Fitness where I work out regularly.  So I decided to start there.  In the classroom area we have these stackable steps.  So I stacked some up and practiced landing and absorbing the fall.  Next I tried some rolls from a kneeling position untill I felt comfortable enough to do them from landing.

I was going to attempts some vaults but I was too scared.  I don't trust my ability to jump... being 306 I don't think I can jump very high.  In fact when I was younger (and 40 pounds lighter) I used to joke that on a scale of 1-10 I had a -2 in vertical jumping.  So I took what seemed like the next most logical step and I just jumped.  Jumped as high as I could, and far as I could... to the left to the right, and any other jumps I could think about.

Not much but it's a start.  :)

Parkour And Freerunning / I seriusly can't get enough!
« on: December 31, 2007, 06:52:23 AM »
Hey, I'm new to the community, signed up just the other day infact.  I've known about Parkour for probably a year now but I didn't know much about it.  All I knew was what a friend told me, which was something about a guy scaling a building in like 30 seconds.  Anyway, I saw some video's on Parkour/free running a few days ago and well I'm hooked.

I haven't done anything yet... in fact it will be some time before I'm doing much at all.  I'm a large guy.  Around 300 or so; however, thank goodness to martial arts and supportive friends I'm very active.  But I don't care how big I am... I'm determined to do this.  Besides if I keep at it I'll probably lose the weight anyway.  Well I just thought I'd say hi and tell you guys how amazing I think Parkour/free running is.
