General Fitness / Beyond Stretching: Russian Flexibility Breakthroughs
« on: January 02, 2011, 12:41:14 PM »
Anyone read this book by Pavel Tsatsouline? He has some research on stretching to back up what he says, but it's a complete change from Western Stretching methods. He goes on the discussion of how everyone can perform the splits if you can extend each leg to the side at a 90 degree angle, but have to train your brains and nerves into believing it's safe. Plus it's a more humorous book than most other stretching books as it starts out: "Most Western flexibility 'experts' do not know enough physiology to have sex so you are far better off not stretching at all than following their advice". What's your thoughts on this?

Also, I wasn't sure where this would go because I don't believe their's a stretching section and it didn't quite fit into Consumer Whores. If it doesn't fit, move it accordingly please.

I just finished my 2010 (Tricking) Bails and Fun video. Mostly bails, but had some fun. Gonna work on my parkour and freerunning one soon. I hope you get a good laugh out of it. :)

Tricking / My 2010 Bails and Fun Sampler
« on: December 30, 2010, 09:02:28 AM »
Just finished my tricking bails and fun sampler for 2010. Through most of the footage I was injured (peritoneal/peroneal tendon strain) on my right leg so I couldn't step up my corks or b-twists so I worked a lot with kick combos and tumbling. Please check it out and I hope you get a good laugh. ;)

Consumer Whores / Streching Scientifically by Thomas Kurz
« on: August 20, 2010, 05:08:36 PM »
I've heard nothing but good things about this book and was just wondering if anyone else has read it already. In all, my question: is it worth the buy?

Tricking / Layouts....on wood.
« on: August 13, 2010, 02:26:35 PM »
So I have to be able to do a round off layout on wood for some plays I'm in. Any help or suggestions? Keep in mind, I have no shoes on, I can execute one flawlessly on grass/spring floor, and the closest I got today was a round off ugly back tuck. Any help is appreciated.

General Fitness / Odd Lifting
« on: August 09, 2010, 06:56:19 PM »
So, I'm not going waste your time and I have used the search bar and couldn't find an answer.

I recently got a job acting as Peter Pan, the kid we all know that never grew up, for little kids. Most of my part involves acrobatic feats and what not, but here comes the problem. For another part I have to learn some ballet, which isn't the problem in itself, but lifting some of the women correctly have given me some struggle. I'm looking for a way to increase my upper body relativly quickly.

Here's the catch: I'm not new to weight training and am generally in good shape, but everything I do doesn't seem to affect lifting above my head at the odd angle that is required in ballet. Anyone know how to a) Put on some more strength at this odd angle (I believe the movement involves the pecs, deltoid, and tricep but not in a "regular" way) and b) Answer a question I've currently come across: Are protein shakes really what their worth? The guy that had the role before me said that's how he did it, but I'd like a more natural way.

Thanks for any help I can get!

Training Journals / Sean's Journal
« on: July 29, 2010, 05:17:20 AM »
Currently been training my parkour abilities a minimum of three times a week, plus an open gym session. I also run cross country/track & field to keep in shape as well as improve my muscle reflex and stamina.

Basic info is I've been a traceur for several years now. I've started tricking a month or so ago. I'm 16 years old, 5'7" and 130lbs. with a body fat % around 7% because of my high school distance running career.

For parkour I can currently perform: all the "basic" vaults smoothly (depending on the situation that is), 12 foot wall runs, 5-8 foot precisions, and 12-15 foot gap leaps (once again depending on the situation).

For freerunning/tricking I am currently able to perform: Front/back tuck, back layout, front pike, full/half, arabian, b-twist/kick, wall flip, wall flip 180, wall flip flair, straight legged gainer, and probably more (I'll post once I remember the rest of the list). I'm currently working on my corkscrew and wall flip full as well, I post progress as it comes.

My upcoming goals are to:

-Properly land a corkscrew and wallflip full.
-Improve my flow through both a rural and urban environment.
-Improve my vertical jump.
-Get more intune with my surroundings and environment to become more in tune with myself.

So that's my first entry, more to come soon.

Freerunning / Blocking Height
« on: June 16, 2010, 09:44:49 AM »
So I've gone through and read several posts about how you shouldn't jump over 5 foot high because of the force exerted onto your joints. I was wondering if this is also true with spring floors. I generally get pretty high when working on layouts/fulls on a spring floor and I was wondering if the same rules of thumb should be followed because I believe I go over 5 feet when I block.

Thanks for any feedback.

Michigan / Upcoming Jams
« on: June 05, 2010, 12:08:45 PM »
So I checked out the MI Jams subforum and couldn't find anything recent, so I was wondering if anyone was planning on holding one soon? I'm in Port Huron but I think we have a source of transportation for traveling. Thanks for any response.

MI Regions / So it’s Unthawed
« on: April 08, 2010, 04:21:26 PM »
Hey everyone, Port Huron parkour here. But from what I’ve seen the Michigan forums been pretty dead, but it does seem fit for a resurrection. Michigan’s unthawed (for the most part anyways) and the temperatures rising. I wanted to make a topic about how everyone’s training has been coming with the warmer weather. On that note, how has your training been coming?
