Pics & Vids / Training Videos
« on: September 08, 2015, 07:16:04 PM »
This is my 8th training video, but instead of putting it in another thread by itself, I'm going to put it, as well as all of my previous videos, and all of the videos that I will upload in the future, in this thread. That way I'm not making too much thread spam.
A really bad compilation:
Training 8
Training 7
Training 6
Training 5
Training 4
Training 3
Training 2
Training 1

My 6th training video so far. This one is just a bunch of clips from July, since I hurt my leg (again) and couldn't go train last weekend.

Pics & Vids / New Video, Trying New Things
« on: August 04, 2015, 04:38:04 PM »
I decided to try something new with this video series that I'm going to be working on. I wanted to go out and explore my area and talk and have some fun, with a little freerunning in the side. It's kinda long, so I'll be working on making them shorter, but if you guys want to watch it I'd appreciate it :)

Injuries - Discussion / Curious About my Knee
« on: May 12, 2015, 10:25:54 AM »
So occasionally my right knee would start to ache a little. It pops a lot, but I didn't worry about it. If it started to hurt, I stopped training. However, about a month ago, it started to hurt a little after a session. I wasn't too concerned, until the next day, like an idiot, I went back and did some more training. By the time I got home, my knee was aching pretty badly. I took the next week off (mostly... I still jumped around a little bit at my house, but nothing major). Then I went back to the park to train at the end of the week, and found my knee hurt. Really bad. I ended up calling my mother to pick me up, because I couldn't do anything. I haven't done anything since then, and it's been a little over a month. My knee still pops a lot and aches sometimes.

TLDR: I hurt my knee because I was an idiot and decided to train when I shouldn't have. It still hurts a month later.

Place it hurts: It's kind of right below my kneecap. Above the bone, but below the kneecap. It almost feels like growing pains, but only in my right knee. It's not actually growing pains, just feels... similar? My knee pops A LOT and it's kinda gross. I don't do it on purpose most of the time. Wearing my knee brace helps it not pop, so I'm going to keep wearing that.

My question is: Since it has been a month since, should I be okay to start doing WEIGHT training. I know I'm not ready for any actual parkour/freerunning yet. Since weights aren't actually impacts and stuff, would I be okay doing things like weighted squats, weighted lunges, etc etc etc? I'm thinking I should build up thigh/other leg strength so that when I start parkour again it won't be so much strain on my knees.

On a side note, if you have any good leg exercises (with or without weights) that I can do to strengthen my legs to help put less strain on my knee, I'd love to hear them.
Or any ideas on how to heal my knee faster. I know that you don't know what's wrong with me, because I don't even know, but still.. Any ideas are welcome.

Socialize / A New Idea :D
« on: March 13, 2015, 03:22:57 PM »
Sooo I was thinking... We have training journals... But why not diet logs/journals? I'm gonna start posting EVERYTHING I eat in my training journal so that I can keep track of what I put in my body. I may or may not like what a I see. I'll post literally everything, from what I had for dinner to the piece of gum I bummed off of a friend in 3rd block.. And maybe you guys might like to as well? I dunno, seems like a good idea to me. ;D

Consumer Whores / Gymnastics Gyms?
« on: November 14, 2014, 05:12:41 PM »
Is it worth it to go to a gymnastics gym to train for the more "dangerous" things? How do these types of facilities work? I've visited the web sites of nearby gymnastics gyms ( is the closest) but they don't mention anything about open gym or just visiting to train. Do you think they even offer open gym? I've never been to one before and don't want to sound stupid if I call them  :-\ I think training in a gym would really help me get my flips down, but I'm not sure how all this stuff works. Would I have to pay monthly or are there usually options to pay for one day and maybe I visit, give like $20-$30 and do what I need to do? Blegh..I'm confuzzled...

Seriously, why are there no LA freerunners?

Consumer Whores / Shoes for Splints?
« on: October 26, 2014, 08:08:03 AM »
So I have come to the logical conclusion that since I haven't trained any harder since I got my KO's and that I got shin splints/pain around the time I got my KOs that my feet just don't like the shoes (or something like that). I need new shoes anyway since I've pretty much worn the soles of my KOs to nothing so my question isssss: Should I get Ollo Sapiens or Tempest NLS-1's? My old shoes (before I got my KO's) were Nike Dart 8's. Great shoes for beginners, by the way. I'm thinking Tempests over Ollos because Ollos have a thinner sole and the Nike Dart 8's had pretty thick soles. I'd buy another pair of Darts but it'd be a pain in the.. well.. you know.. to find one and they didn't have the absolutely beast grip that KOs have.

Side note: I'm currently trying my mom's Dr. Soles shoe inserts but I don't think they'll do me any good. Should I go to a running shoe store and see if they can help me out or just buy new shoes? My shin splints are killing me and really ruining my training. I don't over train, I warm up and cool down, I drink plenty of water, I don't overpronate, as far as I know. I don't have flat feet and I googled some stuff about how to know if you do overpronate and I'm fairly certain I don't. I run mid foot to balls and have read and tweaked my technique... I don't know what else the problem could be... I train very safely and have taken off several weeks of training to heal up but they returned virtually the next day. Giving up freerunning isn't an option...

And yes, as it seems, I'm getting a little frustrated and desperate xP

Edit: I've been training for a few months, probably about 4-5. I hear a lot of good things about minimalist shoes and have always wanted to try them. Would this make my shin splints better or worse?

Training Journals / "I'm Just Going For a Run"
« on: September 26, 2014, 04:48:23 PM »
My attempts at putting up a training journal. I figured it'd help me keep track of what I do and maybe get some (very) welcome criticism.  ;D

Socialize / Parkour at School?
« on: September 12, 2014, 07:54:36 AM »
So my school, like many others, has some pretty cool parkour spots in it. The problem is I'm not entirely sure if I'm allowed to train there after school. Do most of your schools allow you to train there or what? I know the rules might be different for different schools, but none of the teachers even seem to know.

Btw, I had no idea where to post a question like this so I just stuck it here. Sorry if it's in the wrong place xP

Injuries - Discussion / A Little Bit Scared :/
« on: September 04, 2014, 04:13:19 PM »
So I was training at my church and there was this big stump turned sideways. I was doing precisions onto it when my left leg slipped and my left shin smashed into the trunk. It hurt pretty bad but I'd had similar accidents at least twice before and thought nothing of it. Until the next day it hurt to the touch and seemed to be swollen a little where as my previous shin-smashing just hurt for a bit and went away.
I had shin splints about half a week earlier and had taken off a week to rest them. They felt fine after a few days but I still didn't train for a few more days, just to be sure. But now I'm sort of worried that I messed something up because now the spot where my shin had hurt hurts again and it's not even where I'd hit my leg on the trunk. I think a better way to say that would be the spot where my shin hurt when I had splints hurts again and the spot where I hit my shin on the trunk really hurts but only if you touch it. Do I have shin splints again? Is is because I hit my leg on the trunk, or what? Honestly my knowledge on what shin splints are is pretty limited but I thought they were over exertion injuries, not something you got from smacking your shins on stuff. I seriously don't want to take another week off of training because of splints, any ideas what the problem might be or some solutions?
If I have to take time off again I will, of course, I just won't like it... At all... Especially since the only thing I had to do all of that entire week was read a book series (which I finished) and derp around on APK forums. Any help is appreciated  ;D (I just hope it's not fractured or anything.)

EDIT: The spot where I hut my shin actually kind of hurts when I flex my ankle the wrong way..

Parkour And Freerunning / Music!?
« on: August 02, 2014, 03:36:05 PM »
Everyone loves music! So what do you guys listen to when you do parkour/freerunning? Personally, I listen to a lot of dubstep/chillstep and everything else in that general area. Au5, Fractal, Stephen Swartz, and Hellberg are pretty epic.

Just checking to see if there are any Traceurs/Free Runners in Gonzales or anywhere near it! I don't see too many posts with anyone really around here, but there has to be someone other than me? :P I'm somewhat new to parkour/free running but not a total newb and think it'd be cool if there were any other people around here.
