Parkour And Freerunning / Re: More freerunning, less parkour

A Diving Frontflip IS an effective way to clear an obstacle (i.e. one where you wouldnt want to touch the surface of the obstacle you wish to clear, either because it is flimsy, covered in broken glass, dog shit, you name it.) Also, when coming out of higher things (preferable to go around, but sometimes you cant), you can shift your momentum and land straighter or however you please. Or maybe there is a narrow gap you couldnt kong through, but you could dive through then front.

I agree; that makes a lot of sense.  A diving frontflip could be used to take the place of a dive roll when you do not feel like landing on your hands.  Too bad I can't frontflip yet though.

Concerning the origonal topic:
Maybe Freerunners are more likely to train in a gym, whereas traceurs maybe more likely to train elsewhere.  That could explain the ratio you observed.

Parkour And Freerunning / Re: How do you know if a drop is too high?
« on: August 27, 2009, 09:38:28 AM »
OK, I have a dumb question.
If you are standing 2 feet above ground level, but have to vault a 3 foot rail to get to the ground, is that then considered a 2 foot drop or a 5 foot drop?  ???

Know what I mean?

I like this idea; I'm gonna use my real name from now on.  HC(Holmes County) Traceur wasn't that cool of a name anyway.

. . .all you can think about while driving is vaulting the cement barriers they put between highways.

Injuries - Discussion / Short article on knee cartilage.

The part that motivated me to post this was: "Once damaged, cartilage can never heal." Is there going to be a lot of traceurs limping around in about 40 years?

*I do not know very much about knee cartilage so I would appreciate response from those that do.

I'm actually beginning to be scared away from parkour because of all the injury possibilities.
Those were my exact thoughts a few months ago.  Since then I have decided I am not going to take any more drops; they are simply irresponsible.  I don't think it is a good influence that most parkour vids show people taking huge drops.  :-\
