Awesome. I have an internship in Boulder this summer and the 7th is my last day of work. This will be a cool thing to do my last days of my summer in Colorado.

I'd be interested in something sooner. By July I'll be done with the semester and off to Colorado for the summer. It's getting warmer, so maybe end of March or early April? I wouldn't think it needs to be a huge jam or anything, maybe just at that childrens hospital place again.

Damn.. I'll still be on spring break that day.

Great thread. Here's what I've got:

CMU Parkour
Members: ~7 on a good day
Location: Pittsburgh (Oakland)
Training: On campus (Carnegie Mellon)
Contact: gecko753@gmail.com

It seems like we almost had some kind of meet up deal going last fall here in Pittsburgh, but it got cold quickly. It'd be cool to see that happen again soon. I know there's supposed to be all kinds of stuff going on with PKFR, but I can't really find much on their website. And as for that I.A.O.M.A. thing, finalizing a grant is a long way from having results. Trust me, I'm a scientist =P

But if that stuff gets done, it will be an awesome opportunity for anyone able to make it. Until then, I'm up for getting some small jams going in Pittsburgh again as well as some kind of larger jam at some point too.

Parkour And Freerunning / Re: which foot do you jump off of?
« on: December 26, 2008, 10:04:05 AM »
Jump normally - right
Jump into wall - left
Wall - right first

I have a bad habit of always using my right leg. Strangely enough, my right hamstring kind of hurts today =|

Looks good, man. Where are trying to go?

I spent a few years back in high school and beginning college doing game design. My only suggestion is to make the environment include obstacles that are impossible to pass using the normal fps movements (just jumping). Try to add things that absolutely require the player to use the parkour movements like wallruns, tic tacs, etc...

I've heard the quake engine is pretty good. I've only used OGRE and the XNA framework, so I can't say much there.

Also, I don't see how Mirrors Edge makes this stupid. Have no racing games come out since the first one in the 70s? There is always room for improvement, and this would be a great project to learn game dev with.

Good luck!

Yea looks like the weather isn't going to be too great. It's nice out today, so I'm about to go out and take advantage of this while it lasts. Hopefully one of these weekends it will stay nice and we can go out there again.

yea bob, I'm interested in seeing those pics too if you can show them!

Also, I'd be interested in doing parkour for you Sam (if I can). Maybe post here with some kind of idea for what you would need of people?

Awesome man! Thanks for the update.

Good job staying cool. About a year ago 2 friends and I were strolling down my street at night (last night hanging out before going to college out of state) and had the cops pull up with lights and all saying someone (one of my neighbors) called us in saying we were planning to break into a house (???). We were all the same as you, never done anything wrong in our lives, so watching the cops treat us like sh!t was kind of interesting. They get really confused when they realize we aren't lying about our names and addresses. I guess cops just assume the worst for 16-21 year old guys =/

My suggestion to anyone else who gets this attitude from a cop and knows they have done nothing wrong: don't run your mouth off, answer questions honestly, be polite (even when they are not), and do whatever they say. That way, if they end up doing something out of line, they can't come back and say you did too.

Yea I had a blast training with you guys. I'm up for doing it again sometime.

damn that'd be awesome. Unfortunately I'm with batraceur on this one, I don't have a car so unless there is a bus that can take me there, I don't think I can make it. =(

Hey everyone! I'd be up for a jam this sunday. Allegheny Center... I'm not sure where that is. Is it that concrete area thing by the hospital on the north side? My CMU-bubble prevents me from knowing this city very well =P

« on: October 01, 2008, 02:49:45 PM »
Not an injury, but after training one day I noticed a tiny brownish triangle on my left palm, near the top. I figured it was rust or something, so I tried washing it off. Well, it's now been there for about a month, doesn't seem to want to go away.

But it is kind of nice to have a constant reminder of what I do :)

Hey everyone,

I just started training a bit ago and I go to CMU during the school year (I'm originally from TX). Hopefully if I keep up the training I can join up with some of you to jam in the Oakland area once the semester starts back up.

I probably won't have a car this year, so do any of you know of good places to practice right near CMU/Pitt?
