I'd skip "smoothies" and just eat the raw greens.

That is a good recommendation for beginners.
If you read the sticky, you know that you need more SMART quantifiable goals.  Things like,
"Be able to squat 50 more lbs, Increase Vertical Jump by 4 inches."

We need to know what you want to accomplish and why. Gaining a few HSPU is a good goal.

The biggest problem for being a vegetarian is typically the protein:carb ratio.
Do you know how much you are getting? Or do you just eat vegetarian-ish until you are full?
-WHAT are you eating exactly?

To gain wait, you have to eat, a lot, and then eat more.

Try tucking a bit tighter. Your legs are a little sprawl-ish. Get a nice clean tuck, it'll make a world of difference.

If you're just doing some parkour training, just warm up by doing light parkour training.  Some quadrupedal movement, light vaults, jumps, pushups, stuff like that.
Seriously, Joe, I read that website above, and it's actually really good. lol. Don't look at my sig.

Also, you have to eat a lot! if you're naturally skinny, you need to be mindful of calorie intake. Constantly eat.

i promise you are not eating enough.

Lift heavy weights + Stuff you're face with good food (high protein) throughout the entire day and you'll be okay.
I was at a stable low weight for quite a while.
Gallon of Milk a Day really helps.  it's a cheap, easier way to get 2400 calories.

Read the stickies.

What are your goals?

A great program we usually recommend for beginners/novices is Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe.

I"m still reading your post, which I like so far.

I realize that when we eat better, for instance more protein, we are satiated quicker, causing us to eat less.
Is that kind of what's coming down to on each side of the argument?

Also, i'm looking for a new book to purchase and read, I prefer digital copies, and something about nutrition, recommendations?

Diet / Gary Taubes
« on: February 28, 2012, 11:39:08 AM »
I want your guys opinion on the writer Gary Taubes.  Author of Good Calories, Bad Calories and the newer book, Why We Get Fat.

Most of you, I think, believe that weight loss is determined by calories in vs. calories out.
Taubes disagrees with that theory, and suggests it's what we eat that strictly dictates weight/health.

From watching others diet, and offering diets to people, and reading some of Taubes' work, I am kind of stuck in the middle.

I am thinking about buying Why we get fat, but I want to know what you guys think of him and his theory.

There is at least one person on the forums who has done it, he recommends CrossFit and some running and things. But it depends on the athlete, you may need to build up some strength before hand.
I'm also thinking about doing it in September, in Poplar Bluff?

Well you can't go ALL protein, but i'm sure that's not what you meant.
Second, if you want to gain muscle mass, you have to eat, eat A LOT. Steven even says, You should be so full or nearly sick, every meal.

You can't just eat protein.  You also need to work out with strength geared reps.

Without specific goals, it's hard to give further advice. Lift heavy, eat A LOT.
