Basically the same comment as above, good work and great practice. Just don't build the habit of stopping the wall climb low and instead you want to try and come bursting over the top, the easier that is the more momentum and better transition of direction you have.

Bump from the dead - Were you able to meetup with anyone? I'm headed out there as well and am looking to meet some people. Thanks.

Americans Abroad / London Trip of July

Hello,

I'm headed out to Europe at the end of this month and will be in London for a few days from July 22nd to the 25th or so. I know there are people out there, who would like to meetup for a jam and maybe a go around the city or is there anything happening that is already planned? Thanks.

Some of these distances are crazy, I really need to work some more on my posterior chain. I still only do about a 8ft broad jump which is about average in this group of people but I would not mind hitting 8 and 5 with ease.

Thanks, I have purchased the same shoes as the ones above and when the traction goes down enough I think I will follow your lead.

Where did you pickup the rubber from?

It is a common rule of thumb for law enforcement that if you run it means you have something to be guilty about or a reason to be running. Then the cops get really suspicious and they will take it to whatever level they want at that point. Like your friend found out, getting arrested, possibly searched and their ID run for anything they might have done. Its a shame your friend had to figure out the hard way. It is always better to stay calm and explain, and also to take any warnings from security guards to leave or move away.

Actually, there was a case fairly recently where someone ran from the police (and was innocent) and the court ruled that running from the cops isn't necessarily illegal, as often times when people are scared they will panic and run. I'll try and find this.

I think it's very important for EVERYONE to know their rights when dealing with the police. Sometimes it's not good to just be passive and take what they are saying.

Running from the cops is not exactly illegal but they will chase you under suspicion if you ever run and they have a tendency to bend the truth in the end. The best thing to do is to explain what you are doing and if they want to arrest you, go freely and put your hands out in front of you. Its better to comply with them at the scene and then in the end if they have done anything illegitimately they get slammed in the legal system. I would not see why they would want to arrest anyone as it was unless you were trying to make a point and go on the whole "I have rights, I can be here, etc. rant" Unless you are practicing in your own backyard, most places you can be escorted out of including parks, parking lots, shopping centers/plazas, etc.

The key point is that even though you may know your rights don't try to educate the police officer on them. Things tend to get a bit fuzzy when that happens and you might find yourself in a unfortunate predicament. Sorry to anyone who is a Police Officer here, but not all of them are always the most honest of people.

Not from personal experience with these shoes but only my thoughts from trying them on in a store is that while they will be good running shoes I would be wary of rolling your ankles in them. I think Haku in the above post described them the best and how to preserve their life span. Just watch those ankles is the only thing I can think of with these shoes.

Update 2

Pros:
Good traction on dry surfaces of all type. I feel like they have great vertical and horizontal for vert wall runs and tick tacs.
Not too much cushioning so I can still feel what I am running on, but just the proper amount of cushioning.
Light weight and Breath ability!
If it is raining out these shoes drain the water; I landed in a puddle and within 5 minutes the shoe was lightweight again!

Cons
They don't have the best traction on latex based paints + water(downpour.)
I am still not used to these shoes completely but I will say at this point that they are not shoes to be using in the rain asides from sprints and vaults onto concrete.

Con/Pro
I feel that they have less ankle support then my previous pair of shoes but it is equally just right so that my ankles get stronger, so this is a positive for me.

Once again, to stress, you should change out the stretch tight lace to regular laces the moment you get them! Over all I am satisfied with these shoes in their entirety.

I would highly suggest you go and read through a couple of pages in this section on different shoes. Just an FYI on the 5 Fingers is that they have no padding for your feet, so for a beginner it can be either very good or bad for your form and muscles. Since there is no cushioning it will mean you need to have good form or build it, and learn to land properly or risk hurting yourself. I would not suggest those if you don't have any experience since the risk of damaging your muscles and slowing your training process is not how you want to start out.

To make it simple: Cheap, comfortable sneakers with no plastic parts on the bottom and have rubber that extends up and over the front of the toes. I picked up for cheap a pair of Adidas All Natural Runs on footlocker. Check out this thread: http://www.americanparkour.com/smf/index.php?topic=15392.0

When I do get a new pair and decide to spend a little extra on sneakers I would be getting some 5.10's since they seem to get better in water. You don't need to be so concerned about all of the rubber compositions yet and tread patterns since you should only be focused on achieving good technique, that is imperative.

On a side note, not in exact reference to your case. Once you have been warned to vacate a facility by any employee and you don't, you are now technically trespassing and can be legally arrested. This includes malls and parking lots; just because they allow everyone in does not make them public property. Stay safe.

Day 1 - First Impressions

Got them in the mail in decent time. Due to the lack of choices for the sizes I had them come in blue since they were out of them in other colors. They feel comfortable on first impression but tight across the top of the foot which I expect to stretch and feel nice and snug. Just practicing distance precision in the house on smooth tile before heading out and they are light weight and produce good traction (before really getting them dirty.)

P.S. The tightness across the top is more so there with the stretch/pull lace they have on the shoe when it arrives, I advise placing the regular laces on the shoe for a much better feel.

*Update*
Where can I even find a pair of Dart V's in a size 81/2 or 8 online to purchase? Today I tried on a pair of Pegasus 25's and was not fully impressed with the traction in the store...it seemed to keep its grip on the glossy tile but had the feeling it would give way under any real pressure. I think if I can't find a pair of Dart V's to purchase online I am just gonna purchase the above, I know someone who is running in them and says they work great but they wear down quickly. So for 30 a pop I think I can buy two for the price of one and have my fun at the same time.

*edit*
Found a 30% off all orders (except clearance items) code online:

FF9YE522

It is currently valid and saves about $9 on the product originally posted, coming to just under $30 with shipping.
*edit*

*Update V2*
I went on and decided to order the ones in the first post, the K-Swiss Ultra Naturals with the promo code in this post. I could not find the Dart V's (which I decided are the better version) on any legitimate website for a size 9. I'll update this this thread once I wear these in, they should arrive in 3-5 days. (Since I had the promo code I I opted for the expedited shipping) Thanks for any advice or help.

Well, I'm sure we're all going to tell him that not taking the jump is the best option, and ofcourse, it is. But we might aswell give some advice if he really feels he needs to.

I agree and I think I gave some decent examples on what to do and some of my own ideas on how I might get over a fear of heights in the full length of my post. That first sentence was just an absolute clarification in case anyone got the wrong idea. Thanks for helping to point it out. :)

Yes you did! :P

I wasn't trying to bash on you or anything by the way, haha.

Haha. No problems mate, was just clarifying the post. =D

Disclaimer: Please read the post in full and I do not suggest you actually take such a dangerous jump.

The obvious answer and most difficult thing, since it is not always clearly available, is to try and work on similar situations at different heights in succession. If you are that afraid, try moving to something at a lower level and that is similar in features. Let me say this for my own sanity is that you should not attempt something like that unless you 200% know you can make that distance jump, in your sleep. I am not condoning this jump since the practicality that you find yourself in such an awkward situation on a roof top is far fetched, unless you are a bank robber?  ::)

I had a similar situation awhile back, where there was a jump from two leveled platforms (high to low.) With a decent distance between the starting to landing precision and a pit in between them that posed an imaginary threat. What I did was I practiced the jump a few times of the same distance and drop but with no gap in between and then being assured I cleared my mind, calming myself and then successfully did it. Again, don't take this jump so leisurely and I am not suggesting you actually do the jump at all since there are much more safer ways to practice.

Here is a much safer idea for your fear of heights, find a pool center or something of the sort that has safe conditions and multi-leveled diving platforms. Get used to the height in safety and have fun jumping off of that, but don't equate the landing in a pool to what is out there. In other words, don't get a false sense of security.

Hope this helps in some way.
