General Fitness / Questions about programming volume
« on: October 25, 2012, 07:14:17 PM »
I have been wanting to add some things like more handstand work, L-sit/straddle L/press to handstand(eventually would like a stalder press to HS) and possibly more deadlift work (maybe 2x?) to my routine and wonder if with my current routine they would be too much, and if not, where to add them?

Current Routine looks like this:

Monday:
Light handstand work
Squat 5x5
Pseudo Planche pushups on rings
Some kind of rowing variation(been throwing these around, trying to figure out what feels right)
Adv. tuck planche w/band
Flat tuck front lever
Full back levers
Deadlift 1x5

Wednesday:
handstand work
Sometimes light 3x5 squats if I feel like it
Ring dips
Inverted ring curls
Adv. tuck planche w/band
Flat tuck FL
Back levers

Friday:
Heavy Squats 1x5
HeSPU
Assisted OAC work
Adv. tuck planche w/band
Flat tuck FL
Back levers

Saturdays and Tuesdays are rest days, Thursdays and Sundays for Parkour skill stuff

Interesting.  I heard that if you feel the dips in your pecs at the sternum, you're using your chest too much.  Could I have heard wrong?

General Fitness / Questions about dips/body symmetry
« on: July 18, 2012, 06:56:15 PM »
Reposting this due to all the spam.

Couple of questions:

1. When performing dips should my shoulders be as externally rotated as possible?  I can perform the this way on the p bars but not on the rings, where I can definitely feel my chest being used more.  Should I take a step backwards to gain the strength for the ring or is this nothing to worry about?

2. My right arm is noticeably larger and stronger than my left, and it has not been a problem yet but I would like to keep it that way.  Any tips on balancing things out?

Thanks

Best core and leg strength work would come from heavy lifting(i.e. heavy squatting and deadlifting like Steven said) and gymnastic strength work.  Also, I do believe that unstable balance work like slack lining does not translate to stable balance like walking on a rail.

Curiosity is overwhelming me, just wanted to see if anyone else had any ideas as to what he's up to?

I have been breaking blood vessels in my face around my eyes and mouth when doing straddle back levers on the rings.  They do not hurt, but they show up as tiny, dark red spots clustered around mostly my mouth after doing around 2-3 sets (5 second holds).  Wondering if this is bad; common or nothing to worry about; should I tone it down (go back down to Adv. tuck)?

Thanks

Consumer Whores / Bags/Things for holding stuff

Seems to be a lot of debate over what kind of bag/pack works best (if you need one), and I hadn't noticed anything like these on the forum before so I thought I'd post them.  Some interesting things from Amphipod and Nathan Sports:

Hey, check out Parkourvisions.org.  They have a gym in the fremont/ballard area and they have beginners classes that they teach.  First class is free if you sign up online!

Eh, I've only been training for about 5 or 6 months now and any kind of training or experience is good, no matter how new you are.  I'm just looking for people to train with because I can't get any of my friends interested in this.
