Title: El Paso, TX National Jam March 15th -17th 2008.
Post by: big_broe on October 09, 2007, 07:27:32 PM
Thank you everyone for your support!  It's looks like we will have a good turn out. On the 16th we are having a grand opening for our mma/parkour gym.  there will be live mma fights,  belly dancers, and a capoeirra performance.   And of course FOF and Team MOZZ will be performing.  I can't wait to see you guys there. We will be able to provide soft ground for tents in Shinobi's back yard.  Sorry all the other indoor slots were rsvp'ed.  Were looking forward to a great turn out and want to thank Team Mozz,  Texas Elite and Apk for there support.  if you  have any question call animal at 915-525-7556.  Thank you.

Augh. :(
Gentle men The Jam will be mainly held on the weekend.  March 15 and 16th are a saturday and sunday (We will spend these days tearing up two of the biggest univesity's in the states NMSU and UTEP)  We will also be hosting an open gym at one of the biggest gymnastic gymnasiums in El Paso on Sunday morning at 9.a.m. (Just to warm up)  We also have a national airport in house so any one flying in let us know so that we can pick you up.  We have a camping out spot for any one bringing tents.  Monday the 17th will be the last day. That is the day we will be cooking out and bouldering at Hueco Tanks National Park.  Looking forward to seeing both new and familiar faces,
  ANIMAL FOF.

I just checked my calendar and that is the weekend right at the start of my spring break! Yeah! :D

If I can swing it, I'll try to fold this in with a visit out to San Fran during spring break to see my best friend whom I've never met in person.

So very awesome.

YESSSS!!!!

I am totally in! I still have to talk about details, but my guess is I'll fly down Friday and stay the whole way, then fly to my house in Cali for the rest of break.

The only thing is, I need somewhere to stay, are you guys supplying lodging or will I need a hotel/tent?

:(

I don't know if I can make this. My best friend is getting married that weekend. Although it's her second marriage, so it won't be a big "production" but rather a small civil ceremony, and therefore I won't be needed for any kind of "bridesmaid duties," there is no way I could miss her wedding. I'll have to wait and see.

Any more details on the planning, incidentally?

All right, my parents are planning for Spring Break now, I guess.....can you guys let me know what sorts of lodging you have available? I need to know if I need a hotel, or if I can stay with one of you.

Alright. Just letting everyone know that we are still on for these dates.  Pics will be available of some hotspots soon.  As per lodging, I can house several individuals at my house.  I have enough room in my living room to fit 5 people comfortably, and for those of you willing to slum it I have a huge back yard.  Anyone who can bring tents and sleeping bags can stay there.  I'm planning on getting a projector where we can watch pk related movies and vids off the internet while we chow down on some burgers and steaks. We are also building several obstacles back there for those of you that would like to jam out all night long!  Anyone under the age of 18 expect to print out a release form and bring it with you.  So far, this jam is looking sweet.  I hope everyone can come and participate.

Alright ladies and gents, time is coming up for the big jam.  We already verified with Team Moz,  and if they don't have any gigs, several members of Tempest Freerunning will also be showing up.  Now is the time to RSVP so we have realistic numbers.  A more concrete schedule will be coming out soon.  Expect Saturday to be spent in Las Cruces, New Mexico (less than 45min drive from El Paso), at the University of New Mexico and Uniday Park (a PK playground from heaven!).  sunday will be spent at Gymnastics Elite (the largest gym in El Paso), University of Texas at El Paso, and parts of downtown El Paso.  Monday will be various other hotspots.
Again, for those of you that will be staying in my backyard, bring tents and sleeping bags.  We will have a projector showing PK related movies (Yamakasi flicks, D13, Jump London/Britain, and any other vids/dvd's anyone wants to being down).  I already have two barricades customized for PK specific training, several precision bars, and hopefully I would have build some boxes in various sizes.  And, of course, pizza's or a cookout.  This event is also being publicized through several local area magazines and the El Paso Times.  We are working on news stations.

Lodging will be at my pad, bring the things I mentioned and your set.  Other than that, your best bet would be a hotel on the east side or near UTEP.
Specific training times will most likely start around 10am on Sat, Definately 9am on Sunday(thats gym time), and monday will also be around 10am.

This is sounding very promising... and doesn't look bad at all!! ;D I think I speak for the rest of TexasParkour.com when I say MLW needs to spread the word. Can you give this jam a thread on TXPK, because I'm not sure if any of the guys in Houston are aware of this jam as of yet. Not to mention the few rebels that aren't on APK. :P to them anyway.

As long as you got the gear, I've got a place for you to crash.  I even have some room for the first guys that request to crash on my couches, living room floor, and/or garage.  Team Moz has dibs tho (cuz theys sum crazy mo fo's!), so anyone else want to sleep indoors just rsvp.   Should have the pics up of Unidad and NMSU by this wednesday (my slacker Las Cruces guys are taking forever to send them).

It's really up to you guys.  Whatever you want to do, just make those reservations now.  Might be able to keep 6 people in the living room, a few in the dining room (anyone wanna bring an inflatable mattress???), a couple in the kids room (they will be staying with me in our room) and if no one wants to crash outside or we have inclement weather there is always my garage.  Can have people fri, sat, and sunday nights.

Also, if anyone would feel more comfortable staying in a hotel, I recommend staying in one by downtown or on Mesa Street (near UTEP and also alot of resteraunts).  That way you will be centralized for the jam locations.  If need be, there are also some hotels near Lee Trevino, where the gym jam will be on sunday (and it is also near my house, for the BBQ and movies and night jam at my pad).  You can find any of these via google and mapquest.  If anyone wants suggestions, let me know.

I still need to take pics of all the obstacles I have at my house.  If time permits there are a few other decent jam locations in EP, but I think this will be all the time daylight will permit.

So far I have two photographers that will try to be with us at all times.  I also have a friend taking media editing courses in college that believes he can get a hold of an HD video camera.  Anyone else think they can bring anything of the sort to document this jam of awesome proportions?

This all looks like plenty of fun. Is there a concrete itinerary yet or are we winging it...because I think (not quite sure, mind you) that I'm staying at a hotel with a rental car....I'll need to know where to meet you guys at first.

Let me know!

Making all the final preperations!!! Anyone that is staying at my house, call me for the address. So far it looks like we will be having two separate area magazines covering the event, still trying to get some news stations to do a story.  Looking good.  Can't wait!!!!!

DUDE! This jam was f'n sick! This completely surpassed ALL of the expectations that I had.  I was so nervous before.  I was having doubts about the training locations and wether or not people would think that the trip, time off, and money they spent were worth it but everyone said they had a great time.  The skill level that was applied to the obstacles we have here has truely inspired me.  I will strive to be a better traceur.  Thanks to EVERYONE that came out to train.  You all are amazing individuals.  I will be posting pics and vids soon.  For now, here is a list of what went down.
Fri. Night
The gents from Texas Parkour (Matthew, Tim, Jereme, and Mike) showed up and ripped up the obstacles I set up in my back yard.
Shortly after Vaho and Jaren from Team Moz arrived and joined in on the light training.
We all then relaxed inside where myself and my brother and law proceeded to own everyone in Halo 3 (j/k)

Saturday we met up with the Oklahoma City, Team Odyssey, and Las Cruces guys for the NMSU/Unidad Park guys for an awesome day of jamming followed by a cookout at my house where we watched both Yamakasi movies and B13.

Sunday was the grand opening of The Concrete Jungle: School of Fighting and Parkour.  The day was opened up by live bellydancers (my wife and sister in-law), Capoeira Quinto Sol (a group of capoeira practicioners from Arizona, Las Cruces, and El Paso), four MMA bouts, and a parkour demo that the national jam guys got to participate in.  For a demo that had absolutely no choreography or preparation it looked very organized and professional. Since the gym jam I have gotten ALOT of positive feed back about the performance. I'm also glad that we could tie the grand opening in with the national jam, which gave all the attending traceurs the opportunity to do a live demo infront of a large crowd. I wish I could have gotten us more time to train in the gym but the owners cut us short, which is an issue I am addressing to make sure will never happen again.  After breaking for lunch we all met at the UTEP campus to continue the jam.  Everyone was pretty spent from the day before plus the gym so alot of people were taking it easy.  Plus, due to high winds, there was alot of sand in the air which is always crappy to train in.  We still had several individuals going strong and demonstrating some very advanced skills and capabilities that can only come from hard training and dedication.  I still can't believe some of the things I saw you guys do with obstacles I've been training on for several years and never even thought of attempting.  The training was again followed by another evening of debauchery at my house.  Halo 3, Rock Band, Beer, and Pizza.  Needless to say, everyone had a great time.

Monday was potential jam time, but everyone was pretty spent.  Alot of people went home, happy and hurting, but the Team Moz guys stayed behind to get some bad ass burgers at Friscos Burgers.  I'm going to ask them to change the name of their 4 meat patty, 4 slices of cheese, avacado, and green chili to the Vaho Slayer! J/K. I'll give him credit, there was almost nothing left.  I'm sure he was hurtingafter that tho cuz I know I was!

After asking around, alot of people said they had a great time here and if we were to do this again they would definately come back.  I'm already looking forward to planning next years jam.
Again, thanks to everyone for showing support.  You are all very cool individuals.  I had a great time training with everyone and I hope we meet again!

OUTSTANDING!

Awww. It sounds like such a great time! I *so* wish I could have been there! Next year, for sure. This is a great time of year for it, as I am still coping with snow on the ground up here and am itching to get outside to train. Plus, I miss all the FoF guys. :(

Hopefully next year's will coincide with my spring break as well, and no one will be getting married that weekend (that I know, anyway), so I can make it.

The opening of "The Concrete Jungle" sounds awesome. Was that your project? If so, congratulations! What a wonderful accomplishment!

:D

Can't wait to see pictures.
