Title: "I'm Just Going For a Run"
Post by: C.Bourque on September 26, 2014, 04:48:23 PM
My attempts at putting up a training journal. I figured it'd help me keep track of what I do and maybe get some (very) welcome criticism.  ;D

Probably wondering why I haven't been posting anything, and so have I XP I kind of have shin splints again and haven't been doing much training. Mostly abs workouts and upperbody stuffs. Anyways!

10/9/2014:

Derped around at the park today.
~20 climb ups (no momentum from wallrun)
10 pistol squats (per leg)
A bunch of crunches and crunchy frogs.
Learned how to do that rail trick that's like a double lazy vault. Jesse La Flair calls it the Italian Job, I guess xD
Worked on my b-twists and b-kicks a little bit.
Shin exercises.
Also did some handstand training. I'm getting my times up :D Went from about 2 seconds a few weeks ago and can now hold my balance for ~7 seconds or more.

Pretty much the same thing all this week. I did some upper body and core workouts with shin exercises while I wait for my shin splints to heal up.
Diamond push ups
One handed pushups
Crunches
Crunchy froggies
did some pullups and climb ups
tried one handed pullups, failed miserably   :D
did archer pullups
dips 'nd stuff... lots of dips... I do them in class, at home, in my chair... dips... O-o

MOAR DIPS!!! In my Spanish class we presented food for a project and I did dips between me and my friend's desk for like 30 mins while they  presented. I like dips, for some reason. They're fun..
So since I decided I was healed of my shin splints I went outside and learned how to do an aerial/side flip thing/cartwheel with no hands... Pretty sure it's called an aerial. I'd done it once before by accident but today I went outside and nailed a bunch of 'em! I'm actually a little nauseous from doing so many cartwheels.. I was going cartwheel to aerial so I could build momentum. Plus it's fun to do 2 handed cartwheel to one handed to no handed  8)
Pretty much all I did xP I have a bit of a head ache now..

Went to the park yesterday and trained some. There were tires by the track at my school (the big ones) so I lined them up with a little distance and stacked two on top of each other and made a sort of obstacle course. It was epic xD tires are so bouncy and easy to do flips off of o-o Plus I got a bit of a leg and arm and back work out moving the tires around. I ran the track a couple of times and did some pistol squats and climb ups. Today I had an all day 10 hour boring retreat but I did a few aerials and vaults and stuff when I got the chance  ;D

Yesterday I took off because my shins hurt again and I had a lot of homework :'( I maybe kind of sort of broke some rules and did a few aerials but don't judge me!   [WTF]

Today I spammed aerials until I felt my brain was turning to mush in my head from all the cartwheels.. Also I found this: http://gizmodo.com/5902699/banish-shin-splints-forever-with-one-magical-exercise

The exercise actually works pretty well and I do it along with titanium ankle training stuffs. I shouldn't have  problems with my shins for long  ;)

But seriously I'm nauseous so I'm gonna go lie down O-o

I've continued to do the shin exercises 2-3 times a day, however my shin splints seem to be back worse than before... Going to the doctor's sometime soon to see what's up and get some suggestions. Going to continue to do the shin exercises anyway, but lay off of the aerials for a while. (I did one just for fun and my legs cried.) I was doing cartwheels into aerials yesterday and kicked the shit out of a low hanging branch. My pinkie toe took most of the hit, but (thankfully) isn't broken. It hurt like hell though. Still doing lots of dips and working towards one handed push ups. I can do about 2 now (per arm) if my legs are spread out. Considered doing 1h pullups but that shyt looks hard xD Going to lay off of pretty much everything that might worsen my shin splints and start my abs/upperbody stuffs again..

P.S: Shin splints are one of the most annoying things I've ever encountered.

SUCKS to here about your splints but your being a good sport about it keep up at The upper body workouts and by the time your legs are healed you can be a maniac   ;D

Yeah, shin splints suck, but on the plus side, climb ups are extremely easy now xD

Shin exercises
I was feeling good today so I iced up my shins and brought my spare mattress into the yard to train front flips. I did pretty well until I did and aerial and landed a bit wrong... right shin flared up in pain.. went inside, iced it.. I feel okay now, thankfully.
Dips (of course xP)
Otherwise I was pretty lax today. Didn't really do much.

Even though I hate it when other people say __ is love __ is life, I feel like I need to say this... Dips are love, dips are life :D Pistol squats are pretty cool too..

Today and yesterday I worked on front handsprings, which I got, and aerials with no momentum, which I also have.. No run up aerials are so sick XD I need to put a video of me doing on up here..

Did some dips at school (obviously)
A couple of aerials and b-kicks/failed b-twists
Not much today, got my feiyues in the mail but they were a "little" bit too big.
Title: Re: "I'm Just Going For a Run"
Post by: SebastianCannon on October 29, 2014, 02:23:58 PM
"little" mine were that way, i heard that you are supposed to get half a size smaller. but like i said mine were that way but worked perfectly fine.
Title: Re: "I'm Just Going For a Run"
Post by: C.Bourque on October 29, 2014, 02:30:03 PM
I was thinking of returning them but I thought about it and realized it wouldn't really be worth it. With the $5 restocking fee and $10 to ship it to them I'd only be getting $5 back :P I just decided to order a pair of feiyue los before they go out of stock and hope to grow into my feiyues sometime soon. I ordered a size smaller of feiyue los, though so they should fit.
The "little" was meant as sarcasm :P They're actually quite a bit too big.. Like a whole inch between my toe and the front of the shoe.

ohhh, send them to me then ;D :P

xD I doubt they'd fit you, I have pretty small feet. They fit better than I thought, but still too big.. The back kind of slips off sometimes.
I wore them all day today. Did a bit of training but now my feet feel sore. Did lots of precisions and strides on tree roots that stick out of the ground.

yeah your feet will get use to it, im just now starting barefoot training.

I hope  :P It's day ~6 of feiyue/barefoot training and my shins haven't bothered me at all except today when I was standing on the bar of a desk (the one that's supposed to be a really cold arm rest) and went to do a kong into my desk (next to it).. A move I'd done at least 50 times before, but this time my feiyues kind of had too much grip and the desk flew behind me into the doorway and my shins smacked the overturned desk... Thankfully there was only one other person in the class, but it was absolutely hilarious...

Did mostly standing aerial practice today because they felt "too easy" and I decided to video myself doing one and it looked more like a b-kick (which explains the easiness). Sooo long story short I worked my ass off to fix it with pretty good results  :D

Went to the park(and area around it) yesterday and the day before and had a lot of fun.. Learned how to do that lazy vault to kind of backwards lazy vault type of thing. It was pretty easy once I figured out it was just swinging your legs behind you and infront of you  :P On the less bright side my feiyue los chaffed against my pinkie toe a lot and I got a huge blister so I have to wear a bandaid or I can't wear shoes.. Also my feet were sore which I assume was just because I wasn't used to wearing minimalist shoes. All better now except for the inch of missing skin on my toe..

Soooo.. they opened up a new park a few days ago and I went yesterday. There are soooo many bars O_o Like, they're everywhere. It's not even a parkour park, just a public, kids' park. And the bars probably take up half the playground. There're also wooden posts (the thick kind that you can stride across) only about 6 of my feet (~9.5 inches) away from each other so I finally get to train precise striding and stuff like that. THERE'S EVEN A SAND PIT!! I know exactly where I'm learning flips :D As might be obvious, I trained at the park for several hours and now my hands are kind of messed up :P At least I have thanksgiving tomorrow so I can heal up...

((haven't been updating in this because I've pretty much just been practicing things I already know to get back to where I was. Going to start lifting again (blegh..) and running longer so that I'll be ready for the New Orleans jam next friday ;D))
On the bright side, literally NO shin problems at all. Feiyues are love, feiyues are life. I do have a little bit of a problem with them chafing against my pinkie toe, but it's mostly better now. I had to stop training with shoes for about a week because I got a big blister on my left pinkie toe which I then proceeded to accidentally rip off doing a dive vault.

that park sounds awesome. Aren't feiyues awesome? I haven't been wearing mine because there is snow and nearly negative tempatures here in minnesota. And also great no more shin problems, mine have healed as well!

It is  ;D I finally really got my front tuck today. It's amazing what a sand pit and a bunch of people around you can do to your confidence. Once I didn't land the first one right I felt pretty dumb so I kind of forced myself to jump high and tuck hard and I landed it in the sand   8) Then I took it to the grass and got pretty okay results. I was landing on my feet and with my hands by my sides on the ground. Once I can get myself to untuck a little bit sooner so that I land on my feet without my hands I'll be good.
And yeah, feiyues are awesome! Good grip, light, flexible, and really comfy. And they kinda solved my shin problems  :D It'd suck to wear them up there though. It never gets that cold here.

Went to a jam saturday and played until 2:30 when i had to go. Was pretty worn out, so I slept for the rest of the day. For the week prior to the jam I pretty much did nothing because I'd messed up my foot doing front tucks. Fortunately it was healed by time the jam came around. So, I've been practicing front flip recently and plan to try to perfect it and move onto back hand spring and then back flips. Maybe go for cheat gainer and then corks after? :o Or maybe relearn the b-twist..

Yesterday I trained front flips onto a mattress and made HUGE progress. I can actually land on my feet with no hands on the ground anything. I haven't tried on the ground yet, because I kinda feel a bit of pain in my left shin. Probably because I'm not used to the impacts of front flips yet. I also kind of smacked my foot on the mattress too hard or something because it exploded in pain on the inner top part and a little in the arches similar to what I had about a week ago, but it doesn't hurt anymore, so I'm probably okay. I went to my church for an interview with the Father for confirmation stuff but he had a wedding so I just trained for an hour until my mom picked me up. I did a lot of rail flips and kong to precisions and striding from parking concrete thing to parking concrete thing. Yeah :P Now I'm about to go eat pizza XD WOO

Yesterday I tried to get back into building some more muscle. I did 2 sets of:
15 reps of full squats w/ 80lbs
~8 reps of presses w/ 80lbs (Not sure what to call them, it's kind of like hold the bar chest high and extend arms above head without jumping or anything.)
30 reps of climb ups.
10 reps of lunges w/ 80lbs
10 pull ups (unweighted)
20 dips
90 secs of L sits (not all at once, over about 5 mins)
I was supposed to run, but I didn't.. merp...

This is what I'm going to try to do Sundays and Thursday:
Warm up (of course)
2 sets of
1-2 mile/s
2 Push (arm stuff: Pushup variations, dips, presses)
2 Pull (Other arm stuff: pullups, wall pull ups, rows)
2 Core (Crunches, L sits, leg raises, crunchy froggies)
2 Leg (Weighted full squats, weighted lunges, sprinting)
Shin and Calf Exercises (even though I do these daily)
2 "Multiples" (I just called them that, it's basically exercises that work more than one part of the body so like burpees to climb ups, climb ups, dead lifts, etc etc etc)
And then Cool Down.

Today all I did was a bunch of vault training. I ran around my yard and generally had fun with my picnic table. Reviewed all the vaults I knew and it seems I forgot how to reverse kong push. I didn't "forget" but the times I tried it it was really sloppy. I worked on my reverse vault a looootttt.. My reverse vault it pretty bad too. (Basically any vault I can't nail over my green picnic table is bad :P) I can do it on smaller things and rails, but I can't get it over wider stuff which bugs me. My reverse kong is okay, just it's... not good enough? I dunno, it doesn't meet my standards.
I haven't trained front tucks in a while because my left knee kind of hurts when I do pretty much anything other than sit. It doesn't hurt really bad but I'd rather let it rest than screw something up in it. Also I had a bit of shin pain, but it's passed for now. Maybe Thursday I'll start working on mastering my front flip  ;D
Tomorrow I have to do an interview with the Father at my church (because last time he had to attend a wedding or a funeral.. I don't know which.) so I'll probably try to stay at the church afterwards and play around. I've been practicing my rail flip vault thing a good bit, so I might work on it some more as well.
Title: Re: "I'm Just Going For a Run"
Post by: C.Bourque on December 18, 2014, 06:50:09 AM
trained pretty much all day yesterday at my school. Didn't get kicked out! I stacked up a lot of tires and made bit of a playground.  :D Practiced doing aerials onto concrete and off of the tires and stuffs. Today I'm doing weights and body weight stuffs.. Going to build muscle.
Probably going to do:
Two-Three sets (depending on how I feel) of
x10 80lb over head presses (I think that's what it's called)
x15 80lb full squats
10 pullups (more if I can, I want to max out arm strength)
15 climb ups (maybe more depending on how I feel)
a bunch of crunches, I'm not sure how many. I need to work on abs so if anyone has any tips for more difficult ab exercises that'd be great.
probably some situps with a text book in my arms
If I can find a spot to do muscle ups I'll start working on those.
one arm pushup practice (I might end up getting a couple of good ones, I've been doing better, but I still  can't do it with my legs close together)
row variations
going to try to learn how to do some of the more difficult things.
run ~1 mile, maybe more, not less
dogen's titanium ankles stuff (as always)
burpee like thing where I jump up to my picnic table, squat, jump down, diamond pushup
80lb deadlifts (I've never really done deadlifts but I heard they're good. I might need more weight because when I tried them they were really easy with 80lbs)
more stuff whenever I think of it.

Edit: Also dips o-o

Edit 2: It started raining so all I really got to do was one set of presses, squats, climbups, pullups, dips, and deadlifts. I'll have to redo this tomorrow but I think it's going to rain again. I might bring my weights somewhere not wet and do my squats/lunges, presses, and dead lifts. I do need a lot more weight for the dead lifts to really be of much use, because I can probably do well over 30 deadlifts with 80lbs. Presses are really hard for me and I can only manage ~5 before I have to rest, and I can do all 15 squats easily. I really need to work on upper body strength, and maybe get some more weights. The problem is, my arms are so weak I can barely get the weights over my head and onto my shoulders to do squats, so with more weight it'd be impossible :'( I'm going to try to work presses and arm strength stuff a lot, because this is pretty sad... I have gotten a lot better, though. I used to struggle with 60lbs, so maybe after a few weeks I can move up to 100lbs. I might start doing weights 3 times a week to speed it up.
Onn the bright side, I'm getting a trampoline for Christmas :D Now to learn all the flips!
Title: Re: "I'm Just Going For a Run"

Soooo basically it's been really rainy recently. Yesterday and today it didn't rain but it was really wet so all I did was play around a little bit and do a little weights and exercise. I had this long, solid stick in my closet (no homo) kind of like a staff so I took it outside onto the concrete and spun it around and stuff and yeah. It was fun xP I did one handed cartwheels and a few aerials with it in my hand. My trampoline was supposed to be coming in yesterday so I could set it up while it was dry, but it didn't show up until late this afternoon. Unfortunately it's going to rain tonight, tomorrow, and all of tomorrow afternoon, so I'll probably have to wait until wednesday to set it up and thursday to actually get to use it. AAAnnnddd then it's going to rain friday or saturday x/ That's Louisiana for you...

Finally put up a picture on APK forums 8)
It rained all day today (like I said it would) so I did some pistol squats and played around on my furniture whenever my parents weren't looking. I did some handstands as well and got a pretty good time. I've gotten a lot better at holding them. Didn't get to set up trampoline today, maybe tomorrow. It's not so much the problem that it rains, it's more that after it rains, since it's cold winter, it takes a week to dry up. It's going to rain again on friday, saturday, and sunday... *Sigh* Louisiana... I'm moving to California or Texas or something once I'm older... Actually, California, because Tempest Academy  :D

Put up the trampoline today. It. Is. Awesome. I practiced front flips and backflips until I was sick. Grass was too muddy to do anything but jump on the trampoline, so that's pretty much all I did. I actually can do backflips (on the trampoline) pretty well, and I'm working on perfecting my techniques for whenever it (finally) dries up.
Title: Re: "I'm Just Going For a Run"

Anyways, in the past 6 days I've been playing around on the trampoline whenever it's not raining. I went to the school today hoping to find the wrestling room unlocked so I could practice flips on the squishy foam floor, but it was locked. Eh. I ended up training and playing around from 9:00am-1:00pm. Had a lot of fun at the school and learned that trees were a lot more awesome than I'd originally thought (and I'd already loved trees). I learned how to turn around when swinging on bars (or tree branches). Well, I'd already known how to do it and had done it before, but I got better at it... I guess... Worked on rail flow and I think I'm pretty good at it. It's fun anyway.
Since it's been about a year since I started training I'm thinking about making a 10-20 minute video of my progress and where I am now, compared to where I started.

Soooo this past week I've: Been to the park for training twice, gotten a lot of rain, played on my trampoline, and started school again. I also went to a church in this public area/park thing and there was this amazing spot I trained at for a while before I had to go. Decided to try and post up some goals and work towards them:

This Month:
10+ second handstand. I'm currently at ~5 secs
Backflip
Frontflip
Master the rail flip/spring (I can do it, just not all that well on higher objects).
Relearn the B-twist

Next Six Months:
Planche progressions
30+ second handstand
20+ pullups (I read on the forums that someone else was trying to do this, so I figured I'll go for it as well)
5 muscle ups (If I can find a place to do them, there are no sturdy bars around where I live, but I know a spot I can try if I can convince my parents to let me go. I don't really know how hard muscle ups really are, so 5 is just a temporary guess to what I want to be able to do)
5 One handed pushups per arm with feet about mid spread, or just not as wide as I am doing them now (I can do ~2 right now, with feet spread pretty wide)
Find a decent gymnastics gym
Corkscrew and cheat gainer, hopefully
Find new spots.

Hello C. Bourque! Just wanted to stop by and say I admire your dedication towards training!

A lot of your goals seem to be similar to the ones I had last year/are currently my goals for this year. Hope you reach your goals and am looking forward to the progression videos if you plan on doing them.

Thanks!  ;D
I tried filming some stuff for the video but I kind of messed it up because I had this idea to run from spot to spot, training like 30 secs, then moving, all without stopping filming once. It was nice in my head, but half the time I set the camera down in a hurry and missed half of the stuff I did  :( I'm going to try again tomorrow, if it doesn't rain.

Well... it didn't get much above 30 degrees F here (which is ridiculously cold for Louisiana) and it was rainy and wet all day... It was only supposed to be a 40% chance of rain so I'd brought a bag to go to the park after school, but obviously that didn't work out. It's not supposed to rain tomorrow, so I'm going to try to go then, instead.
Plans for tomorrow:
Relearn how to do pistol squats... I can "do" them, but for some reason the leg I hold up (the one I'm not standing on) starts to hurt a lot when I go down and I don't get why. Going to research and try to figure it out.
Do at least 30 climb ups (over the course of the ~3 hours I'm there) since I've been getting really lazy with my attempts to build muscle.
Try to bring my music stand and ipod (for video recording purposes). Tip: If you need to record something and can't get anyone to do it for you, tape your ipod/iphone/etc. etc. etc. to a music stand or something and go for it.

Is it the front of your thigh that's hurting? If so, that's just your quadriceps and it's extremely common for them to hurt when doing exercises that involve hip flexion. Most people run into the problem with l sits, but it also happens with pistol squats, hanging leg raises, L pull ups, and other similar things.

You could be contracting the quads very hard to keep your leg straight which will tire it out. Not to mention the quad aids in hip flexion so it gets strained that way as well. The issue usually goes away with time. I would recommend that you stretch your hip flexors, work on hamstring flexibility, spend more time in l sits or the bottom of pistols, and foam roll if you can.
Title: Re: "I'm Just Going For a Run"
Post by: C.Bourque on January 10, 2015, 06:21:22 PM
Yeah, front of the thigh. Thanks Dick! I'll start working on that, then. I used to be able to do them fine, and I can do L-Sits okay, so maybe doing them more and stretching a bit more often would be good. Sadly enough, I hardly, if ever, stretch.

Went to the park again today from about 12:45pm-3:45pm. Trained a bunch and met some really cool guys. One guy that saw me practicing and decided to try some stuff, but I didn't really talk to him all that much. Another around my age that just moved down here and had a lot more experience than me. I think he said he's been doing parkour for 3 years. And another, older guy, that saw me trying a back flip. He used to practice, so he gave me some tips for my back flip. Worked! Apparently I wasn't tucking as tight as I thought I was. I landed a few perfectly and some other "less good" ones.

Goals Accomplished: Backflip and recording. (I forgot to do the climbups and pistols. I'm about to go do the pistol squats, though.)

For most people the pain goes away after a while. I know when I don't practice l sits for a while I cramp up like crazy when I go back to them.

I also don't stretch either, like at all. The only thing I'll do is wrist warm ups because I hurt my wrists and shoulder dislocates because I had bad shoulders. And I'll do full squats too. It's such an important thing but I hate doing it, so I definitely feel you there.

I usually warmup, because after getting shin splints I'm trying not to agitate them again, but I can definitely agree with you. The pain in my leg did feel less, and not really at all at one point, but  I didn't really get to do many pistols because I just learned my back flip and my core and legs are sore like I've never felt before... I can barely sit down and stand up and every time I sneeze I almost die... I've been sore from using new muscles like when I first started doing b-twists and b-kicks.. but this is just insane..

Soo didn't do anything today except do a few backflips early this morning to make sure I didn't forget it. Other than that, it started raining and I was really sore so I didn't do anything except go to the expo center church thing and film some stuffs. Just simple things, because I was feeling pretty lazy. And I had a lot of homework to do, because procrastination...

@C.Bourque Not sure if this is the place to post this but just wanted to let you know that my friends and I are also in Louisiana (Covington Area) and we just created a team. So far it's just us three. We have only been practicing for a year or so, off and on, but now we are starting to get a lot more serious about it. We just purchased a bouldering mat to start learning flips. Also, just made a vault box. But yeah, maybe we can get together some time in the future!

That'd be awesome to meet up. Covington is about an hour from my house, so I might not be able to go up there until I get my driver's license or convince my parents to drive me. I live in the Gonzales area, but I don't know many other traceurs around here. I met one guy at the park and there's one guy at school I don't talk to that much. and I've been training about as long as you. I wasn't too serious about it until about six months ago though.

Hahah yea man i feel ya. Luckily my friends, who is on the team, just recently got his licenses so that makes it a little easier. Also, it is only us three here too, but thankfully we do have each other (lol sounds really weird but true).

Awesome! Anytime you want to meet up (provided it's not raining) tell me and I'll see where we can. I usually go to the Jambalaya Park near East Ascension Highschool if you want to come down here, if not, I'll see about getting my mom to drive me to covington.

Webt to the park, core wasn't that sore anymore so did a backflip and it felt like I'd ripped my stomach in half. I'm fine now, but no more backflips for a while..

(Not sure if I mentioned, but after learning the backflip my core and legs were so sore I couldn't move the next day. It was like insane, and i was still sore two days later. And still am, a little bit. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong, because it never hurt doing it on the trampoline.)

Haha yeah that soreness happens all the time with back flips. Do some hanging knee raises to get the blood flowing and you should feel less sore.

Yea man, sounds sick! Will definitely have to get together some time! We usually hit up Mandeville High School. A lot of rails and sweet walls. But yea shoot me an email (itaylorw251@gmail.com) so that we can stay in touch!

I'll make sure to send you an email, but I don't check mine all that often. Maybe sometime next week when it dries up again I'll see about coming up there. (calebbourque@yahoo.com is my email)

Just be sure to rest a bit, You don't want to hurt yourself throwing more back flips. Most people get crazy sore when they first work on them, so there's probably nothing really wrong.

I just found it a little weird that i didn't get sore doing them on the trampoline but it was really bad in ground. I'll definitely be  resting, then. It's about time for one and it rained today anyways. I feel mostly fine, but I did yesterday as well... Didn't do anything but read, eat popcorn, and drink hot chocolate today ;)

Worked on my frontflips and backflips all day today and yesterday. I've gotten pretty good at them and I feel confident about them now  8)
Core feels fine now
However, my shins don't like front flips too much. It feels like too much impact and I get pain similar to my shin splints growing as I do ~4 or more. They stop hurting pretty quickly, though.

Went to the park today and played around a lot. I'm getting much more comfortable doing vaults with my not-main-hand. I did a few backflips, but I'm sore again from yesterday. Also did some front flips, but my shins started to hurt pretty quickly. I'm going to try and learn to do split step into my front flips to maybe ease the impact and try to start running out of my front flips instead of just landing feet together, with more of an emphasis on the last part. I feel like running out of it will make for softer landings? I dunno, I hope so. Backflips and aerials don't hurt my shins at all, and neither do any other vaults or jumps. Just frontflips. Am I doing something wrong?  ???

I'm no expert on front flips but I've done a lot of research on absorbing impacts. But to me it sounds like your ankles aren't flexible enough in the front so your body isn't absorbing the impact. Here's a video on ankle flexibility that has been adopted by a lot of parkour athletes as the best way to improve ankle flexibility and strength http://youtu.be/8B1XvEbJUKE (http://youtu.be/8B1XvEbJUKE). Also. try building up strentgh in your shin by sitting down with your feet shoulder width apart, and flat on the ground. Then, while keeping your heels on the groun, lift the balls of your feet up and down towards your shins repeatedly at a slow pace. just do this whenever your sitting down and you will build up the muscles in your shins which should help with your current problem, and also helping with shin splints.

I've been working on the shin exercises for a while now, and I've noticed a lot of improvement from when I started a few months ago, but the flexibility thing I didn't think about. It does make sense, and testing my ankles right now, they don't feel that flexible. I'll definitely check that out, thanks ;D

Nothing today or yesterday. It rained today, and I figured I'd give my body some rest. I haven't had any in a while, so it's better I do it now while it's raining than when it's perfectly dry outside.

Allriight... So in the past week I have: virtually mastered my backflip on GRASS, might work on concrete soon. Played a lot on the trampoline and did front flips in grass, but they aren't as good as my backflip and still cause a bit of pain after a few of them. Went to the park today, ran two miles w/ a friend ad have decided to start my three week running test. I've gotten rather good (in my opinion) at rail flow and i find it to be really fun in the right places. I got my pistol squat back (thanks Dick  ;)) and have progressed my 1h pushups.

Inn the past week I have:
Been to the park a few times
Tried not to get rained on
Practiced backflips and let my core heal up, because it's still getting kinda sore
Played a lot of Smite :D
Annnndddd.... played on my trampoline when it was too wet to go in the grass

new goals: figure out how to do a cheat gainer, learn how to land my front flips better (I land then fall over onto my hands, or land, have to put my hands on the ground to push myself up so I can run out of it, or, if I'm lucky, I stumble and run out..
try to get my left leg vaults on par with my right leg. My left leg lazy vault isn't nearly as good as my right leg, even though I have been working on it quite a bit. I've also been working on my opposite sides on palm spins, cart wheels/one handed cart wheels, and speed vaults. Pretty much everything I can do on my right side (other than my aerial, I don't want to go there yet) I want to be able to do on my left side.

I did end up going to the park on Tuesday. Didn't do anything Wednesday. Thursday I decided to learn how to sideflip, so I worked on that on the trampoline and then took it to the grass the same day and landed like two before I started messing up. Perfect practice makes perfect, so I stopped and went inside. Went to the park yesterday and tried a few sideflips. I ended up landing a looottt of them. I messed up the first few, but figured out that I was going in with too much momentum and couldn't control it right, so I slowed down and got some control on my entrance and was able to land a bunch of them. I did some more today and landed them fine. Kinda proud that I was able to learn to sideflip in less than 24 hour  8)

Continued sideflip/frontflip/backflip practice. I went to the park and videoed some more stuff but it didn't all come out right so I'm going to try again sometime soon. There were a lot of people at the park because of Mardi Gras so I didn't really get much of a chance to train at my favorite spots, but some of the other spots were open so I went there. Rained on Monday, so I didn't get to do much but play on my trampoline recently. I'll be going to the park tomorrow, hopefully, and try to get some training in and maybe bring my music stand and some tape to record a bit for my 1 year video thing.

On a less happy note, I made one of my first big mistakes in parkour/freerunning. I was feeling confident, but I was tired as hell, but I really wanted to learn how to do round off to back flip... So I did a backflip. Then I did a round off. Then I tried them together, but with a second or two between the round off and backflip. Then I went to go straight into a backflip from a roundoff... annnddd... I don't even really know what happened. All I know is I landed on my face :'( It actually doesn't hurt as bad as you might think. I got a big scrape on my nose and above and below my right eye, but otherwise I'm perfectly fine. My neck hurt for a little bit, but I was okay after. I consider myself lucky, but  I don't know. I won't be trying that again for a while. At least not until I actually learn how to transition from the roundoff into the backflip. Buuuut anyways! Yeah, I'm fine. My sideflip is pretty solid, and I'm getting a lot better at my frontflip. My backflip is good as ever. I was able to run up, hop on a rock and do a front flip off of it, and I've been working on getting more comfortable with all of my flips so that I can use them in my running around and stuff.

I went to the park again today.
Practiced a bunch of sideflips.
Noticed I was a lot better at sideflips.
Noticed I was a lot worse at frontflips. (Going to have to work on those again. It rained Monday and everything is still kinda wet, so I didn't go outside much to practice. I guess my frontflip deteriorated during those days. Or maybe it was just because I was trying to do them on squishy stuff. I dunno. I was able to do them by running up, hopping onto one of the little shin high rocks, and flipping off, and my flat ground frontflips weren't baaaaaaddddd they just weren't as good as I remembered them being Friday.)
I did a few sideflips over a very small "gap." The gap was just squishy park stuff, grass, to squishy park stuff. I was just trying to get comfortable doing them over stuff. Once I get better and more sure with them and how far and high I go with them, I'll start doing them over actual things, like the shin high rock I was doing my front flip off of.

Basically my goals right now are to get comfortable using my flips in my playing. I've gotten a lot better at incorporating my aerial and I've done a few frontflips in my runs now. I also need to learn to do them on harder surfaces like concrete. It's kind of weird to not be able to flip on concrete. I can aerial on concrete fine, but I'll need to work on backflip, sideflip, frontflip. I tried a backflip on concrete once a few weeks ago and my shoes came off on impact. I'll be working on that  :D

Rained a little yesterday.
Went to the park today. Before I went, I did some side flips over a small bush thing in my yard. Well, actually, it was a branch from a tree with leaves and stuff that I stuck in the ground... but close enough.
I also did some frontflips over a very short wooden bench I have. It doesn't have a back or anything. Still trying to get comfortable with my flips. I did some flips off of my picnic table. I was swinging onto it from a rope I have hanging in my tree then frontflipping off.

At the park I did a lot of new stuff in areas I've already been at. Someone was having a birthday party so I couldn't go to the playground section, so I decided to play around this really big fountain area. It has rails and short walls and stuff around it, so I ran around and it was fun. Just trying things I already know how to do in different places and different ways. I did a dash vault on a picnic table but instead of running out, I landed my feet on the sitting spot and dive rolled off. I'm trying to learn how to go from dash vault into dive roll without letting my feet touch the ground.
I also climbed a bunch of trees and stuff.

My right knee is starting to feel... weird? For a while now, it has been popping really easily. You know how you can crack your fingers? Well, I can do that to my right knee. Not on purpose, most of the time. It's starting to worry me. Sometimes it aches, but not that much. Now that my shins don't hurt anymore, another part of my body kind of has to fill in. *sigh*

I haven't been doing any actual muscle building or anything like that. I've only really been playing and learning new things. Maybe once I learn enough to satisfy myself, I'll start building muscle again. I'm not strong, at all, but I'm really light. Only about 110lbs and 5ft 6 inches or so and I'm 16, almost 17.

It's going to rain tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day, and the next day. And it'll be really wet the day after that, and the day after that, and the day after that. Sooo... in other words, I won't be training much next week. Maybe I'll lift weights (even though I don't really like lifting weights...) under my driveway.

It rained. A lot. Well, not really "a lot" but it rained lightly all day yesterday and had random showers the previous days. Today I reviewed my flips on the driest piece of grass I could find. I'm still doing pretty well with them. Other than that, I just played on my trampoline. Too wet to do much in the grass. Tomorrow I'll try to go to the park even though the grass will be too muddy to go in. I'll just try to train around the more concrete areas I have. I noticed that my aerial technique and landings have really deteriorated since I started learning how to do other flips. Probably from not using it as often as I used to. I'll need to work on getting it back.

Went to the park and played around. My sideflip is getting pretty good. I was doing them over a ~5ft gap. My frontflip and backflip are also a lot better. Also learned how to do that frontflip vault thing that I said I wanted to learn, but it kind of hurts the palm of my hand when I do it.

Sooooo it rained.. Almost all week... It stopped yesterday, so I played around on the dry areas of my yard yesterday and today. Going to the park tomorrow. Everything is still going to be muddy, but I'll just wing it.

I did end up going to the park. I'm noticing that I'm getting a lot better overall, but I started messing up my sideflips. Tip: Your head position REALLY does matter. I noticed that if I tried to just look around when doing sideflips, I would land on my butt, but if I focused and looked forward I landed perfectly. Weird how such simple things can affect a move. Also, I learned a while ago, that looking up when going in a palm spin makes it a lot easier.

It's been raining since Sunday and it's going to rain until Friday. I'm gonna try to go to the park tomorrow anyways. I have a dentist appointment today, so I can't go today. Rain is just another obstacle, I guess... (Although it's an annoying, slippery, making-everything-muddy obstacle...)

Going to park tomorrow
And hopefully Sunday
And hopefully Monday, too.
And hopefully Tuesday, too.
It's gonna start raining again on Wednesday.

Since the rain has really been slowing down my training, I need to get some goals so that I'll know what I need to do.

GOALS:

Short Term:
Re-learn to B-twist again
Learn to Arabian
Get more comfortable with my front and side flip (working on this, and making good progress).
Re-learn how to reverse kong

Long Term:
Learn to Cheat Gainer
Learn to Cork
Get comfortable with Arabian, B-twist, and whatever other moves  I end up learning.
Get a lot more comfortable with some of the parkour specific moves, like tic tacs and stuff like that. I don't really have any places to train them, and I've been looking. So I want to find somewhere to do them and learn better. Need to do dive rolls on concrete and start training with rails. I've been training for a year and I'm still scared of standing on rails or jumping onto them... My rail balance isn't "bad" but it's pretty... uhh... nah, it's pretty bad. I can stay on it and walk, but very slowly, very carefully. And I still fall off a lot. Just need to practice :P

Once I get comfortable with a cork, I'll be pretty satisfied. I won't stop, of course, but I'll feel like I've made a lot of accomplishments.

What I ate today:
Two waffles with syrup and a glass of Cran-grape juice for breakfast
Nothing at lunch (I don't eat at school unless I bring a poptart)
When I got home:
A cashew and granola bar thingy
A banana
the last of my Cran-grape juice
After/during training:
Some OJ
Some gatorade stuff (it's pretty much water, I put wayyy under the recommended amount of powder)
For Dinner:
Some fried fish that I put in a salad
A single boiled mushroom and potato (my parents boiled shrimp and I hate shrimp... they put mushrooms and potatoes in the pot while they boil the shrimp so I eat those and whatever else)
the rest of my OJ
annd I opened another container of OJ for some more OJ
AND another banana

Went to the park today and trained a bunch. Stuff was still wet, but eh. It was fun.
I'm still doing well with all of my flips. I started working on that video again, but I need more footage. The stuff I have kind of sucks, and it's all with the camera sitting in one spot. I might see about one of my friends filming for me.

What I ate:
Woke up at like 10:00am and quickly ate a banana and a poptart so I could go to the park.
I ate two pieces of fried chicken (cringes, don't judge me) and a cashew and granola bar for lunch.
I ate BBQ ribs with some green beans, broccoli, and sweet peas for supper.
Over the course of the day I also ate another banana, like 3-4 more granola bars (some were chocolate and some were the cashew ones)
I drank water, orange juice, and cran-grape juice as well as some Mio. (it's just some liquid stuff you squirt in water to give it flavor)
Oh, and I ate a bunch of peanuts. I eat the shells, too. I dunno if that's important.

Sooo today.. I just refreshed on my vaults and flips, to make sure I could still do them all right. Not really that much to do around my house when it's all wet :P I did my best, though. Played on my trampoline and moved my picnic table right next to it and had fun with that. I tried to do a 360 dive roll from the table (which is a little lower) onto the trampoline with decent success :o I might try to learn how to 360 dive roll :D

Food:
I ate.. uhhh.. I know I had a banana (the last banana :'( ) and some cereal for breakfast, but I'm not sure what else
Lunch I had a salad and some chili with cheese in it
for dinner we had pizza. I ate 3 pretty small slices and an apple.
I also ate a poptart and a bunch of peanuts as well as 2-3 granola bars as snacks throughout the day.

Sooo I went to the park today. It was hot AS BALLS like holy shiet. It just turned hot, so I'm not used to it yet. I must've had 5 bottles of water...
I GOT MY STANDING SIDEFLIP :D I was so damn hyped. I also got my front flip with just one or two steps into it. I'm working on standing front flip. I might also learn how to do a wall flip. I'll be working on it, anyway. I think I can do it, I just need to find a spot of dry grass and a wall to do it it from.

Today I ate:
Pancakes for breakfast with a glass of OJ
a poptart for lunch
a shitton of bottles of water
2 granola bar things
a banana
an apple
and whatever else I eat tonight (I'll probably get a poptart or a granola bar or something)

No I didn't learn how to do a wall flip, unfortunately.
But my standing sideflip is really good now.
And I'm pretty close to a standing frontflip
And I can sideflip over anything that isn't too above knee height or that wide.
And I've straightened out my backflip a lot (I was doing them and I kind of went to one side. I'm still not perfect, but it's getting there).
Which is what I've been working on the past few days. Someone also pointed out to me that when I was going for my backflip I was letting my knees go together, which can lead to ACL tears or some other nasty sounding stuff, so I fixed that.

anndd uhh
My diet is actually pretty much the same thing everyday..
I ate pancakes for breakfast
nothing for lunch today
a salad, some fried fish I dipped in bbq sauce and some french fries
I also ate a banana, an apple, a poptart, and a granola bar.
and a bunch of glasses of OJ and some gatorade stuffs.

REALLY close to a standing front now. I kind of reversed myself yesterday, and went for super far frontflips. I think I got to a little over 10 ft.

Today I worked on sideflip distance and got a bit farther. I was at the park so I was just vaulting over stuff and flipping wherever I could, so no real goal, but I did try to get my sideflip a bit farther.

So... for the past week, I've had some pretty weird knee problems. My right knee, only my right one, has been hurting quite a bit. It pops a lot, which really worries me, and hurts if I put pressure on it the wrong way. It started last Saturday/Sunday and I let it rest until today. I went to train at the park and it started to hurt pretty bad. I'm going to rest all of this week, and if it still doesn't feel okay by then, I'll go see a doctor. Otherwise, I haven't done much. I learned how to do a roll, turn, and do a sideflip. I started working on doing front 180s and can do front 90s on a trampoline :P My backflip is super straight now.

Are you taking joint vitamins daily?

No, I'm not. Should I be? I could look into this, thanks for the suggestion!

Went to the doctor Tuesday. He basically told me to get a knee brace and ice it after training and heat it sometimes. He didn't seem too concerned, which kind of bugged me. I'm taking it seriously, and he didn't seem to be, I guess. I haven't done anything in the past week. It sucks. So bad. I got a knee brace today, and honestly I don't see how this is supposed to help me... I'm going to take the rest of the month off, which is going to drive me literally insane, but I don't want to have permanent knee damage. Once I start again, I'll be doing a lot more weight lifting (which is like watching paint dry to me...) so that my legs will be stronger and, not sure if my logic even makes sense, will make my knees have less strain. Suggestions and stuff welcome...

Don't worry so much. You're still walking so you're not going to have permanent knee damage as long you don't over extend yourself. Be mindful of your body.

Yeah, vitamins do wonders!

Thanks :) Hopefully I can keep myself from doing anything stupid until my knee heals up.
I'm gonna try to talk my mother into buying vitamins the next time she goes to the store.

My knee doesn't "hurt" anymore, it just feels... Weird... It's still popping, even though I'm trying not to pop it. Like... I don't do it on purpose, it just pops when I move my leg. It kind of feels like when I had growing pains, but not like that. It's not super painful, it's just weird. I've been wearing the knee brace, and pretty much just playing on my trampoline and nothing else. I might stop jumping on it, though. I was on it yesterday and my knee started to feel bad. So... still not doing anything... It sucks.. Really bored...  :'( :'( :'( I just want to jump on stuff. Don't even remember the last time I got to do a sideflip.

Almost a month later, my knee is still kind of bugging me. It's not bad, but I'm going to stay off of it until it stops popping all the time. I'm hoping by next week I'll be able to train. May 14th... May 14th and I won't be bored out of my mind anymore...

SOOOOOOOOOO
My knee still hurts.
But
It's not super serious anymore. It's Osgood Schlatter's Disease. I can start training again, but it will hurt. The pain will last from 6 months to 2 years (really big range, but eh...) but freerunning won't cause any further damage. I'll be doing light stuff, regardless. No trampolines or jumping off of stuff or flips or anything. Just practicing vaults/precisions, etc.. Good form, weight training, etc etc etc..

Oh training journal, how hath I neglected you.

My knee fully healed about June 10th or so. Not entirely sure of the date, but I've been training since then.

:P So I was finally back to training and now I have a boo boo again. It seems to be healing fine, but basically I haven't done anything in the past two weeks. I really can't catch a break. At least, this time, it's entirely my fault.

I was running and I jumped onto a smooth brick ledge, only about a foot and a half off the ground and planned to stride onto brick platform about 3 feet away and a foot higher. A really easy jump that I'd done hundreds of times. This time I didn't check the surface and the brick was wet with dew (it was early in the morning). I slipped, stopped my face and upper body from hitting the next platform, but at the expense of my legs. Both hit the brick pretty hard. At the time I thought it was no big deal, I'd just walk it off and train normally. Which I did. And I was okay. Until I got home, rested, and my legs felt like someone had mercilessly chopped them with barbed axes. Soo I rested for a few days, felt a lot better, and tried to learn how to b-kick again and practiced websters on the trampoline (I can't decide which I want to learn first). But afterwards I hurt again, not as bad as before but still quite a bit. I've been resting for almost two weeks now.

TL;DR: I smashed my thighs into a smooth brick ledge because the one below it was slippery. I don't think it's serious, but I can't extend my left leg all the way if I'm sitting down. As in, I can't do an L sit, even if my butt and legs on the chair.

My legs are all fine now. I did some awesome training Sunday and I learned how to do a b-twist today. It's not the cleanest b-twist, but it's enough to make me happy for now. I'll definitely be refining it as I get more and more comfortable with it. I want to learn how to do a wall flip or a palm flip next, not sure which to go for first.

An update since it's been a really long time since I've posted:
I fully healed from all of those past injuries. No problems with my thighs, knees, or shins. Not too long ago (a couple of weeks) I twisted my ankle (or something) really hard and hurt it, but it's healing rather well. As long as I'm not too stupid it doesn't hurt.

I've gotten my b-twists on and off. I actually had to re-learn how to them on my other side. I was doing aerials one day and decided to try to twist and it ended up working out and I kinda landed it sort of. Tried it a few more times and worked out a b-twist from my aerial.  I can do them, but not as consistently as I'd like. My backflips, frontflips, and sideflips are on point and I'm very comfortable with all of them. The only things I'm still working on is standing frontflips and backflips off of heights taller than my waist.

I still haven't gotten a wallflip or palmflip, but I'm committed to asking a girl out and palmflipping on the same day, hopefully sometime very very soon xP I have learned how to arabian, and I'm landing them pretty consistently. I learned how to do a side full on the trampoline and do want to take it to the ground sometime soon.

Goals for the end of this year:
Palmflip (hopefully by the end of this month)
Wallflip (hopefully within a couple of months)
Front 180 on the ground (hopefully before I make my trip to Italy on May 29th)
Back full on the ground (not expecting to get this until later in the year as I can't even do one on the trampoline, but sooner is better)
Side full on the ground (not sure when)
consistent b-twist (as soon as I can, but I honestly don't know when. I'm having so much trouble with this one)

It is nice to hear that you are healing! And good luck with the girl and palmflipping!-remember, confidence is key for both of them ;)
It helps me a lot to post my goals like you have done. It holds you accountable to get the stuff done.

train safe bro!

No luck with the girls, BUT I can stick wall flips now. Not trying palm flips just yet, but my wall flips are on point. In addition, I learned how to do a back full. I can't do them standing just yet, but I can do one with just a bit of momentum from a roundoff and stick it. I'm working on cart fulls and getting more comfortable with my back flips. I realized I almost never use my back flips in my actual runs and am not nearly as comfortable with them as I am with my side flip and front flip.

My b-twists are looking MUCH more consistent. I think when I learned how to full I got a better concept of twisting and my b-twist rotation is a lot faster and I land easier.

I can also "kind of" side full on the ground. They aren't very good and I usually stumble out. It needs A LOT of cleaning up.

I'm pretty sure I can front 180, but I haven't trained them yet. I'll start working on that next.

And I learned how to do an outward wall side flip a bit after I learned to wall flip. I might work on inward side flips later.

Also, strangely, I couldn't do a back handspring. I fixed that too.

Next Goals:
1. Cart full
2. Front 180
3. Clean up side full
4. Standing back full
5. Palm flip
6. Cheat gainer
7. Corkscrew

(Somewhere in there). I have a few new vault ideas I really want to work on. I can do reverse vaults with a 360 twist and lazy vaults with a 720 twist that both need to be perfected. My lazy 720 isn't as consistent as I'd like it to be (especially since I slipped and landed on my butt really hard on concrete a week ago).
I want to do that awesome rail flip to dash vault I saw in Storm Freerun's videos.
I can do a double kong but reverse vault at the end instead of kong, but I want to do a double reverse vault. Like, reverse to reverse.
I want to consistently stick my lazy 720's.
I want to do that double palmspin vault again. I managed to pull it off like twice before giving it a break because of how bad I hurt after failing it 100s of times.
I do this one handed railflip thing with my hand on the side of things, like rails, anything that sticks out. I can do it with a 180 twist, but I want to get it with a full rotation.

There's probably a bunch of other stuff I want to learn, too... I need to find something to focus on x. x

A week of new flips:
Every day, starting last Thursday and ending on the Thursday coming up, I plan to learn a new movement, just to inspire myself to learn faster.

Thursday:
I learned how to do a one leg backflip going sideways off of a ledge from standing. Kind of with a small leg swing into it, but not much,

I learned how to do a one handed palm flip type of thing. Still too scared to try two hands, but I did do one hand off of a telephone pole.

Saturday:
I learned how to cheat gainer/kick the moon yesterday. Honestly, i don't know the difference. It only took me like 10 minutes to learn, but that's because I accidentally made a sick progression for doing it.

I started off with one step into the j step, acted like I was going to swing through into my cheat gainer, but then planted my swinging foot and did a backflip instead. Then i worked on that until I could do a flash kick. And then I worked on that until, at some moment, I just decided to stop planting my foot and just swing through. Boom, cheat gainer/kick the moon.

Sunday:
Today I "learned" how to do a 360 dive roll. I could already do one, but they were terrible, ugly, and hurt like hell. Now they look at least halfway decent and don't hurt so much anymore.

Names Carson and I just picked up my first Diesel Super excited to start making this thing look and run like new. Its main use will be for hauling my race truck and small fishing boat to and from the lake, but will also be for fun on the weekends.

I ended up picking up a 92 w250 autoI know I know, as I love the styling, simplicity, and no nonsence design. Plus, my grandpa had one when I was a kid and I loved bouncing around the cab with him while he made his rounds all over the west.

First things first, Im going through all the cooling system now, and have taken care of the KDP and changed the aftermarket thermostat to a factory cummins unit. this is where i ran into my first problem... the radiator needed vatted and rodded, but upon further inspection, Most of the fins are ultra thin and some missing so it looks like im needing a new radiator. Then comes a full fluid and filter change. After that, I will start with the suspension; thinking airbags Then the search for more power begins... I know all big plans but i cant ever leave well enough alone when it comes to my vehicles.

Thanks again, and look forward to contributing to this forum while I learn a little more myself.

By the way, what car auctions websites do you know? I recently stumbled upon http://www.carfrom.us automotive auction. I encountered good salvage FORD (http://www.carfrom.us/car/search/action/search/?carmake=FORD) FOCUS 2010 (https://cvis.iaai.com/resizer?imageKeys=24323902~SID~I1&width=640&height=480) (https://cvis.iaai.com/resizer?imageKeys=24323902~SID~I2&width=640&height=480) . I'm pleased that i got vin report before buying. It had frame damage  damage. Be secure and always run vehicle check before buying.

Yeah I know. I was running 06 harnesses in the 05 lights for a while so as soon as I picked up the 05 harnesses I just put them in normal. I think about doing it all the time but never do. You gonna pick up the STi splitters too? Finish off that front end.
