Title: HIpk Videos.
Post by: Ozzi on July 09, 2009, 02:43:45 PM
To make it easy for us to find our locals videos among so many on the main APK video section, I figure whenever you come up with new one and post it there, post the link here so we can check it out.

Its my first vid. 1st lotta things came with this vid. 1st time shooting and editing too.  Its not the best or anything, still choppy here and there, its just a look at my style in my infant stages of Parkour.
Filmed this over a couple hours yesterday, couldnt wait to edit, so did the long night and learned what I could.  So much props to all you video editors out there.  I never knew how tedious it could be...
Been with HIPK for around a year, actual time in training Parkour would be less than half a year?  Still lotta work to be done for this scoliosis traceur...  Thanks to all who helped me, directly and indirectly. DB, HIPK founders, Gregg, PK community... Hope u like. Aloha

My first video we made back in January... I wish we took more time on the filming but we had the camera for a week and about an hour a day to film so... Once I get the camera from Ozzi we're going to make another taking our time and hopefully showcasing our new skills =D

All our video's will be stuck here -

Hey, Shiloh - lotta firsts for you... First vid, first camera op, first editing...
I can tell you've been practicing. You caught me by surprise a couple times. ;D
It was fun seeing places we jumped together ages ago. A couple look really good on vid.

Mike - thanks for the vid. When a vid is half bails and fails, you know it's going to be fun ;D

Nice one Ozzi. I'm sure it will help peeps... I'm stuck on precisions from different heights, high to low just frankly scares me. And I just don't have the low to high down :/...

Low to high is all power start small, progress from there. Box jumping helps.

wow thats an interesting way of konging, but if it works it works lol
the only thing is I dont see the funtionality of that move, since you could simply tic-tac off the wall or kong over the box.
but regardless it looks good man, keep up the trainin

Yeah I want it to be functional as well

Interesting.

Functionality... hmmm

Fence is not sturdy
dont want to get the wall dirty
instead of on a wall on a pole
to impress some chicks  ;D

Gotta try that. You actually getting the legs thru or more like a side vault?
I just fail to see how much power you can get from it. I just gotta try it myself.

 Good work though.
Title: Re: HIpk Videos.
Post by: Gregg HIPK on October 07, 2009, 04:18:54 PM
May be functional... like over a barb wire or electric fence. Somewhere there's enough junk overhead that you can't straighten out for a full tic-tac.
Title: Re: HIpk Videos.
Post by: turtlekarma on October 07, 2009, 04:45:04 PM
yeah, it's def not a power move...more of a diff way of moving.  Thanks for not saying it was stupid and useless though  ;D  I like this move

Cool! Thanks for posting! I watched it a couple times. Some nice moves - I liked the double tap speed vault to dash - I don't remember noticing that before.
I felt like I was watching the Visitor Channel at the beginning - nice shots, bit long, but really beautiful.
Nice to have a real cameraman, who can track you as you flow. That helps so much.
Bails are always fun to watch - I wonder why that is?
I totally didn't get the end thing.

Haha I study other people's videos and see what I like, so my filming style is a mishmash. The parts where I was followed I mapped out my route and then had to first teach them how to use the camera and then memorize the path that they needed to follow. It was a really interesting learning experience for them and me (3 people did it at different times). They did really well, and it was great to have the experience of having them express my creative impulses, even if some of them did get frustrated at times ('Why can't I stand in THAT corner??" "What's taking you sooo long to get this move?"). That's why I thanked them at the end, because I know it's difficult for someone to tell you what to do, and not get credit for it. So I gave credit where it was due.

The beginning was a bit long, but I liked the way they ended at the end of each phrase (and if you noticed, the second beach shot coincided with Obama saying "a couple of hawaiian kids on the beach"), and I decided to commit to that style so that it was consistent, even if it was a little long.

Haha the ending was from MTV, and it's an inside joke with some people that I know, but it's still a funny clip, even if a little out-of-place to the outside viewer.

I didnt see any Dynos or wall climbs but the slowmo was sick, mabe to much of it, you might have want to edit the clip closer to when you were about to take off, or have at normal speed until the last moment. That is sick though, so slow.

Where is that roof?

Barefoot video sounds cool. Talk to locals who may not be traceurs, too. Some friends and I rock hopped to some falls a couple years ago. Most of us were either wearing shoes or walking slow. Susan and Laura were jogging barefoot - moving MUCH faster than we were.

You know, it may be useful to have a forum for pictures too ^^. Like an HIPK Videos and HIPK Pictures forum.

http://s70.photobucket.com/albums/i115/mikenter/Parkour/
Because I'm not sure how to make the pictures smaller for the forums That's the folder, the newer ones should be obvious ^^

You can just post those here too, to resize you have an option on photobucket that is 600x something, anything bigger than that is just too big.

Chiemi has 8 or 9 videos. Night training. Group work. It's all pretty raw - shows it like it is. Fails, bails, false starts.

looks like you guys are having fun, not doing anything crazy, so congrats on that chiemi...really great that you've kept up with this, takes a lot to keep a community going...but some stuff to work on IMO..

Kongs
Climb ups
Palm spins
Tic tacs

My suggestion
in general think more explosive, and trust footing/hand placement...seems like you guys put all effort into initial jump and not the tac or spin or push with hands/arms.  Those secondary touches you get in with vaults/climb ups/wall runs keep your momentum going and enable you to get more pop then you would without them.

(whatever move) to rolls

My suggestion
a roll after a drop of any kind doesn't mean you're absorbing the impact/spreading impact out...kind of have to fall forward into your roll.

are you rolling from one shoulder to the opposite hip? From the vid, it looks like you are a little upright. i think you need to adjust your axis. How do your rolls feel on the concrete? Any spots that become sore or scraped?

Good stuff my man, a few tips.

Your set,

Use your arms to set high. You are throwing very low, very common when learning the bf.
Swing your arms high, swing by your ears as you jump up, not back, then you will know you are using full motion of your arms.

What you are doing now is more like a whip back, again, not bad, just the norm when learning. if you came to the next jam I can definitely help you out.

The spotter,

You are not spotting the shirt to stay on, place your hand on the back, flat, and push up is needed to keep center of gravity high. Let go of the shirt.

Keep it up though.

yea. i tuck on purpose cuz my cheer coach is rly strict about these kind of things but i wanna prac. getting my flipz more consistent of landing than like they were in the beginning of the vid. after it standing ill move on 2 running tumbling then wen i get that ill move on 2 variations.
i threw some 2day at the beach nd got over fine. jst the landing is a lil tricky ><

This weeks Video blog.... probably the last one for a while

Tore my MCL and meniscus thursday night. I was training at the gymnastics gym. In fact it was suppose to be an easy week. just putting some moves together. On a timer where im suppose to land on my back: I felt it over rotate. I made a split second decision to try and tuck it around... One that im thank full for looking at the video its obviously I would have had much more damage if I landed on my neck.

So in this 4-6 months im out, I get to work on My statics, Languages, and I think im going to learn how to play the cello.

Cello's an interesting choice. Why did you pick cello? Do you play any string instruments already?

actually its statics, as in not moving. Its a discipline in freediving. You just float in the water face down and hold your breath.

Why the cello, hmm I guess its because I find string instruments more manly then say... the clarinet. but the violin is too squeaky I like the deeper darker sound of the cello.
languages, im not sure.. I already have a good foundation of japanese. Im thinking I can work on either tagolog or arabic.

Sorry, I misread statics as statistics - got it in your other thread tho.
Cello way better than violin. I hope you have a great time.
Have fun with whatever language you choose. I enjoy them, but forget fast if I don't use them.

While physiology on how your body burns oxygen  between a statics ( not moving) and a dynamic( moving) is different. I statics do help in freediving.  They teach you to things.

     * how to be comfortable  with your contractions and not to fight them.
     * Boost your confidence, so that you don't freak when you're hurting coming up from 100' because you have an X:00min breath hold/

Your dive videos are incredible. I like the one at the Corsair where Paul snuck up on the diver. Pretty funny.

another dive video... I like the music I put into it. Hopefully youtube doesn't plug the audio again.

This dive was fun. I forgot my weight belt so all my dives I would exhale my air to counter balance the extra buoyancy of my 5mm suit.  Diving down to 75' with no air in my lungs was an awesome experience. I felt pretty freaking good. which shouldn't be a surprise since thats how dolphins and seals dive.

Pretty funny! I'll have to try that.
How do you rate kinect v wii?
Title: Re: HIpk Videos.
Post by: Derek broussard on November 17, 2010, 07:59:54 AM
The wii is easier to set up and better with racket sports and maybe with bowling if your using the motion plus.  Other then that the kinect is awesome! Full body movements, lunging jumps side to side, kicks, punches.. Even when I was balancing on the ball my avatar looked like he was balancing.  It doesn't beat movement workout outside in a beautiful sunny island.  But for rainy Washington it hits the spot.

keep the vids coming man.  A question, just cause I'm curious....why do you train your wall ups like that?  Does it feel like you get more pop?

You mean at 2:07? I guess so, it just feels right to me. I do notice that doing that makes it a lot easier to swing my feet up with me. And I'm more used to pulling myself out of a cat so that's why I got up the wall that way. I think. Is my way like weird?

no, nothing weird or wrong.  but I feel better with one leg punch on the wall.  Kick back other leg to get separation so can get hips and legs up.  Although maybe if I was as light as you, your way might work for me.
