Hand stand Variant
« on: March 02, 2006, 05:00:39 PM »
Hay all, i just thought of this today, after coming down from a handstand, anyway my wrists killed, so i thought why not do a "fist stand" so i made a fist with my thumbs on the outside and did a handstand, it was a little harder cus i had to use my core to balance, but it didnt hurt my wrists as bad. Give it a try and let me know what ya think.

That's cool. It's along the same lines as why Parallettes make such a good training tool, as they help aleviate a lot of the wrist pressure associated with handstands, Planches and L-sits :D

Another remedy of course is to make sure you stretch properly(even before a handstand!).  Roll those wrists around a little bit and stratch out your fingers to help prevent wrist damage during handstands

Now try one fist handstand. Be careful though, because the fist may roll and you could damage your wrist badly.

anything streamlined is stronger than bent (as far as the human body goes.) a straight arm is stronger than a bent arm. Try holding a handstand with bend arms and one with arms locked and see which is easier. As Gear mentioned parallettes make are a great training tool becasue the wrist is kept more in the same line as your arms, as opposed to them being bent in a 90 degree angle.
