Benefits of Handstands facing the wall?
« on: June 02, 2009, 02:34:30 PM »
What are the benefits of facing a wall during a handstand? I know for handstand progressions it should be HS away from wall-> facing wall HS-> Freestanding HS attempts
but I've never quite understood now facing the wall can help. I tried it once, and I overbalanced wayyy too quickly. Maybe I was rushing things, but I wanted to try it out and from what I experienced, it seems like you'll just overbalance. So I'm just trying to see the benefits and why it's better than facing away from the wall.

Also, are there any tricks to getting into a facing-wall HS? I kinda crawl up it with my legs when I try to get into it....

If only your toes touch the wall, and your palms are within 2-4 inches then you are in the correct position anatomically.

You can't do it correctly without staying slightly hollow/straight with full extension int he shoulders, and no arch in the lumbar spine.

Crawl up works.

Balance with your FOREARMS. If you're tipping over that means you're generally trying to balance with shoulders.
