I'd like for everyone in the KC area to post here, I want to organize a little better so I'll make a section for each area of MO. This way you can go to your area and find who is closest to you.

I live not-too-far from KCMO, but am at a bit of a loss for parkourism atm.  If you're in a teaching mood, call me up. :)

I used to live in Grandview, but we moved when one of our neighbors got shot.  In front of our house.  In the middle of the afternoon.  That was enough for us.

heh, dash.  i'm sorry that happened to you.  sounds like grandview, alright.  and yet i still sometimes walk alone at night...  then again, i've had more problems during the day, honestly.  it's during the afternoon that the "homeboys" in my neighborhood give me a hard time when they see me out for a run, or yell nasty things at me over the fence when i'm chilling in my backyard.

That was really just the last straw, as they say.  The main things were issues with our housemate at the time.  The way it worked was the guy I still live with [albeit in OP] was friends with another guy from a few years back.  They lived together.  Then the friend got engaged, and also got shipped to Iraq about the same time.  So we're now living not with him, but with his girlfriend, who was decidedly less than pleasant.  She didn't pay rent, she didn't clean anything, about all she did was bitch about anything and everything, and eat our food.  We couldn't touch hers, oh no, but she'd eat ours without asking, etc.  She even on occasion bitched us out because we bought food that she already had [the food she "had" was some of what we bought].  We got into a habit of saving receipts so that we could show her exactly what we bought and when.

And other things, too.  She decided [when my current roommate and I were gone for a day or two] that his fishtank was too loud, so she turned it off [hey, guess what ?  dead fish].  My roommate also has an older cat, it already has problems with anxiety, so he'd leave the light in his room on so it wasn't dark all the time [we always had curtains and everything up, as we lived on the ground floor].  She'd come into his room while he was at work and turn off his light, any electronics in the room [computers, clocks, etc].  Just blanket unplug everything.  He was about 2 days away from buying a deadbolt.

She'd leave her laundry in the washer/dryer for days on end, sometimes as long as a week.  And we weren't allowed to touch her laundry, no.  But she could do whatever she wanted with ours, which mainly involved throwing mine [one freshly-dried, one freshly washed, and one waiting in line] all on the floor so that she could do her laundry.

I suppose the worst/funniest was when our neighbor's had a water problem.  It came through a bit into my bedroom [under my bed], so I have these nice water stains on my box spring now.  It also went through the ceiling of the garage, down the wall, and over the freezer.  My roommate had some dry ice in the freezer at one time, so she assumed that the freshly frozen rivulets of brown ice were from the dry ice, and basically came up and told him that he needed to replace all her food in the freezer.  For those of you that don't know, dry ice doesn't melt, it sublimates.  It goes directly from a solid state to a gas.  There is no liquid state for dry ice, except at great pressure.  She simultaneously told me that I was going to have to replace the carpet in my room, and that he was going to have to replace the drywall in the garage and all the food in the freezer [which was probably fine anyways, it was all sealed].

We honestly entertained the thought of moving without telling her, just pack up all our stuff [including at the time 4 computers, and a 52" TV] and have it all gone by the time she got home from her tremendously difficult 15-20 hour/week babysitting job.  I really would have liked to see her face when she walked in and the TV and such was gone from the main room.  It would have been great. :)  But we didn't, my roommate still told his friend [the one in Iraq], who told her.  Then she got all complainy about how she didn't want to live by herself in Grandview, so we basically told her to her face that she shouldn't have been such a bitch, then.  Really the only correspondence we have with her now is of inconvenience, mail sent to the old address, things like that.  I can't say I've missed her.

What a tale... Grandview sounds like a place I don't want to move, thanks for the heads up. As an aside, it isn't really what I had planned for this thread, but instead of moving it I may just leave it here so other KC people will know to just keep walking when they get to your area lol. I would have moved too.

For clarification, all of Grandview is not that bad.  We just happened to be next-door-neighbors with a government-subsidised housing project.  If you don't know, it means you get government approval for being lazy, then pay ~$250/month for a 3 bedroom apartment.  Needless to say, these tenements did not house the best tenants.

There doesn't seem to be much about the sport here, but I'll post anyway.  I'm in the Westport area of KC, and have just started training recently, but would like to see a group form sometime.  I've never been athletic, so my training will start out slow.  How I wish I could just hop off the balcony down a level, roll off there and run free tomorrow.  If anybody's up for gathering, let me know via e-mail, we could swap methods, philosophies, or just go crazy and see what happens.  Peace all.

So is anyone here from the St. Joseph area? I'll be headed there in the fall for college and would love to meet up with some people to freerun with once I move up there.

Well, I'm out in the Ft. Riley/Manhattan KS area, which is like a 2hr shot outside KC, but you guys seem to be the closest. I'm actually right next to K-state, but haven't been successful at finding anyone that PKs, So let me know if we can set up a jam sometime one of these up coming weekends. I have a car so if anyone in the grandview area or outlaying areas needs a lift to the inner city, or whereever the good stuff is let me know

I submit to you MO Jams. I'm not sure when the next meetup for KC is. Alternatively you might try Kansas City Parkour. They have weekly jam sessions up at Edge and are always looking for newcomers. Nice group :)

I live in Belton.  I'm still quite new to PK/FR and would welcome opportunities to train with others.  And no I'm not going to travel all the way up to Riverside for classes.  The farthest I would want to go on a regular basis is Downtown, Independence, or Lenexa.  Anything in those locations or closer I would gladly welcome.

For those in the KC area who don't already know, we'll be getting together for a jam tomorrow (Oct. 18) and Sunday (Oct. 19) at JC Nichold Park by the Plaza (just north of the fountain).

I am going to try to be there by 10:30-11:00 am on Sat. and sometime in the late afternoon on Sun.

I live in OP on the KS side, but would be willing to make the short drive over into KCMO for some jams or training.   I'm new to Parkour and am looking for help with training or gyms in the area to practice at.

As posted on the KCparkour.ning site:

ATTENTION SOUTH KC TRACEURS:

So, let's just do this. Let's nail down a time and place for a weekly jam/training session. Now that I have a moped, I can travel a bit, too (just within a 5-10 mile radius, though). I know of a few really great spots near "New Longview" (that "town" by Longview Community College that they built out of thin air). That's south of me and north of Dan, so it seems a good middle ground for at least 2 of us. And I can get there on side streets.

There is, for example, the college campus itself. There's also a business with an awesome railing setup on the corner of ... well, I can't find it on Google maps, but I know I pass it on my way there (I like to frequent JP Coffee).

So, how about we meet at JP this Saturday, say 10:00AM? (Google Maps: 3390 SW Fascination Dr, Lees Summit, MO‎). We can have some warm-ups, Jog, explore/scope out the area, and get some training drills in. Afterwards, we can grab a bite to eat or something.

Let's get this ball rolling! Rain or shine, we got to start doing *something*! I have at least one friend who will probably want to come.

Yeah!  Organization is great!  It makes things so much more fun when a bunch of people get together. :)
