You would not believe the weird foods McD tries to serve here in Hawaii. Taro pie, which is a root, like potato. Haupia pie, which has a coconut goo inside. The McTeri burger, slathered in teriyaki sauce, served with shredded lettuce. Spam or Portuguese sausage, eggs and rice - it's one of the breakfasts - I have no idea what it's called. McCholesterol? They try it, see if it flies with the locals, and if the tourists can keep it down.
I'm sure there's more weird stuff that I missed. Teri chicken bowl, the McSpam sandwich.
There are local 'plate lunch' spots, where you can get real teriyaki chicken or beef, along with a scoop of rice, and a scoop of potato/macaroni salad for about the same price as a McMeal.
