Scaffolding
« on: February 19, 2008, 10:35:28 AM »
Thinking about buying a single set of scaffolding to play on. New goes for about $100.

Just curious if anyone has any thoughts or opinions on this, or suggestions for a better easy-to-build-and-move jungle gym.

I definitely think its a pretty cool idea, as long as you don't designate it for a single movement and just try and find as many possibilities as you can. Also having a large enough area for it (which I lack) I guess could be a factor for some. But I think if it looks like some good scaffolding and you know where you can put it and set it up then by all means I'd say go for it.

Ya that sounds really cool! Didn't know you could buy it, so I'll have to check it out myself. Also as some advice I would go for the Scaffolding that was the bars with a larger circumference, because I know some of them have smaller bars. Also I'd say to make it high enough so that you can swing on it and not hit ground, so in that respect also make sure it is grounded enough so that it won't tip over.

You may want to look into contacting a construction company (or someone else who uses scaffolding). See if you can get some used that's still in acceptable shape.

Okay, I figured that I would revive this thread. Me and multiple other people I know are looking to get scaffolding for our backyards. Problem is, we can't seem to find anyone with the insight on this subject, or the best places to buy from. I know the kind of scaffolding I need, just looking for some advice, it would reaaly mean a lot.

Just curious if there are any good websites, can this be found at a home depot/ Lowes?... Basically any advice at all will help.

Thanks.

Semi-related, hopefully not too much of a threadjack

We set up a "Scaffolding Watch" thread on SFPK, with the disclaimers:

"Scaffolding is great for training rail work and underbars and more.
Scaffolding is private property and should be respected as such.
Scaffolding can be loose or shaky and potentially dangerous. Inspect with care, and proceed with caution.
Scaffolding may have items on them that can fall and injure someone if shaken off through your movements.
Scaffolding can be very high, high enough from which a fall could result in serious injury or even death.
Scaffolding is temporary.

That said, update this thread with the location if theres any good scaffolding up to train on!"

You could go buy some pipe, couplings, and possibly a threader to make your own.

Try
Cherry Scaffolding Co. from Philly.
Universal Scaffolding from Pittsburgh.
Beth-Allen Ladder & Equipment Inc. of Allentown/Bethlehem.
Lynn Ladder & Scaffolding Co., Inc of Orwigsburg.

I'd say just call and tell them what you want. They should be willing to work with you.

I do need to get out to you Philly guys. Hopefully soon.

Alternative idea: What about gym equipment?

...really expensive, from what I googled.

But wow, DO WANT:

Lets see I could pay 10000 for a set up for gymnastic that's meant for kids, or pay for a single horizontal bar for 1000 OR I could go to the scaf. site and spend 296 or 392 (can't figure out if I need those right angle bracers for ever intersection or not) and get a custom setup that I made myself. I'll take the scaf.

Those are some nice sites, thanks for them.  I've been looking on Craig's List (Like someone mentioned earlier I think) and found a full cube for about $120 (Which I think someone mentioned as well)

I'll have to read more into the first one because I'm not sure I understand what it means by 16' tube and all...  Is that one tube or a whole 16' scaffold section

Lol, when I first clicked that, it made me remember back to the times when I'd play old games where you level up and then cheat and make the stats 9999.99 But still...  something with a price that is 'Over 9000' can't be ALL bad can it?
