Crossfit - Crossfitter
« on: February 14, 2006, 06:02:17 AM »
Refers to Crossfit.com, an elite fitness site.

Quote
CrossFit is the principal strength and conditioning program for many police academies and tactical operations teams, military special operations units, champion martial artists, and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide.

Our program delivers a fitness that is, by design, broad, general, and inclusive. Our specialty is not specializing. Combat, survival, many sports, and life reward this kind of fitness and, on average, punish the specialist.

The CrossFit program is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. We’ve used our same routines for elderly individuals with heart disease and cage fighters one month out from televised bouts. We scale load and intensity; we don’t change programs.

The needs of Olympic athletes and our grandparents differ by degree not kind. Our terrorist hunters, skiers, mountain bike riders and housewives have found their best fitness from the same regimen.

Thousands of athletes worldwide have followed our workouts posted daily on this site and distinguished themselves in combat, the streets, the ring, stadiums, gyms and homes.

I was wondering what you meant by "new addition to the lexicon" in your post on the main-page. Hehe, yeah, I hope to make both Crossfit and Crossfitter well-known terms within our community.... :D

I know this post serves no real purpose but I jsut have to say that I am completely captivated by the woman who is doing pullups while holding that weight with her legs. I believe she is alo the same person in the clip who does 35 kipping pullups in under a minute.

**using a Garth like voice from Wayne's World**  "I love you dream woman!"

Some people I have trained martial arts with have used some crossfit training techniques and I have never heard anything but good reports about any aspect of Crossfit.

yep, that's Eva Twardoken, a world-class downhill skier and a trainer at Crossfit Santa Cruz. Not only is she physically capable, but she's also an excellent trainer and super-nice to top it all off. Everybody there is so motivated, positive and inspirational, it's really an amazing community, and I'm really excited to be able to bring APK into the midst of such a great group!

Holy crap!  That is a woman!  Wow, are you talking about those bottom 2 pictures?  I mean no offense to her, but she's more ripped than a lot of guys that I know.  Anyway this does sound like a very interesting program, do I just do the workouts posted at their website or is there some sort of specific thing that I have to do?  I'm pretty content with doing the workout of the day on this site every once and a while, but this looks really promising for the near future ;)

You need to check out the message boards and the FAQ on the main page to make sure you have the basics down. It's a good idea to dial down the intensity a bit at first to make sure you have the form for all of the exercises absolutely perfect. At that point, it's probably best to establish consistency before cranking up the intensity. I would also suggest picking up at least afew of the Crossfit journals, as they outline the program in great detail.

Good luck and have fun!
