I'm going through the same thing... Conditioning's got me stronger, but my running had gone to pot. You're lucky. My first timed run was over 30:00. My excuses: hilly 3.5+ mile course, very bad footing [sand, cinder and rock], hot day. It was demoralizing. Closer to my old 5 mile time than 5K.
I got my time down a bit. I decided to concentrate on conditioning and parkour, not running. When I go out for a few miles, I throw in some parkour, or Methode Naturelle stuff [MN = walk, run, climb, jump, quadrupedal movement, lift, carry, throw, swim, combat]. It totally kills my time. I enjoy it much more than plain old running, tho.
