GI?

Matt

Glycemic Index: http://www.glycemicedge.com/glycemicindextable.html

But before you dismiss bananas: http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=7

Not dismissing them... if you just had tons of simple carbs or even complex carbs it's probably not best to have a banana after that. As a snack or post workout, sure. As a good part of a meal that's not high carb, awesome. :)

I have to say that this is probably the the biggest pitfall in typical American cooking - the need to have a side dish (typically high carbs - paste, rice, bread) with every meal.  If you're cooking well then there is already a vegetable or two at mealtime to supply some healthy carbs. So:

48. Skip the side dish (not the veggies, the other one...)

As Zac kinda said, if you need something to do with your mouth:

49. Chew Gum.

I for sure agree with what BobT said up there. Usually when I compose a meal I start with a protein, two (non-potato) vegetable sides, and a salad. This is plenty of food. If I feel my body wants more I will fill in some little "touches" of carbs here and there: a sprinkling of seasoned bread crumbs over my steamed veggies, a few croutons in my salad, etc; and maybe a piece of fresh fruit or a small square of dark chocolate for dessert. More often than not, I fill in with some dairy protein/fat in the form of a bit of cheese between the salad and the dessert. Usually by the time I've eaten the protein and two veggies, though, I'm plenty satisfied.

and yet: as though, once it was overcome,
she would be beyond all walking, and would fly.

50. Don't call it a diet, call it a life-style change
51. Fight late night cravings with pistachios, almonds, peanuts, and other nuts. The healthy fats in nuts help you to feel satiated. Especially if you have to de-shell the nuts, it forces you to eat slower and enjoy them more.
52. Make things in bulk and store them for quick-meal options when you're on the go. Personally, i tend to eat poorly when i need something FAST, which vending machine companies exploit... bastards.

53.  For those of us that are older, cut down on alcohol intake, switch to light beers, and remember to ask for diet sodas when drinking mixed drinks.

That brings up an interesting point, so...

54.  Regardless of what anyone tells you, "Alcohol, Red Bull, Mountain Dew, Old Pizza, and Ramen" does not qualify as a well rounded diet.

Light beers??? Bite your tongue! Drink real beer, like a nice stought (always in moderation) and drink only water the rest of the time to make up for it ;D (except when sharing a nice bottle of wine ;D ;D).

For those of you under 21, please ignore this post.  It never happened...

What's the take on apples? What kind of benefits and detriments do they give?
Also, I have the same question regarding starches.
Thanks ;D

Dunno, I must have a high metabolism.  In football season I am usually around 140 and in wrestling season I am around 120.  In football season I eat anything and everything when I am even a little hungry.  That is because I try to gain as much weight as possible.  A typical tuesday in football seasons means me and my friends going to del taco for taco tuesday.  I am over the tacos but I would usually get a double bacon cheeseburger, large fries, chicken quesadilla, and a few tacos.  But I did always drink water haha.  Lets see and then in wrestling season the goal is the other way around, try to lose weight.  So I would eat a yogurt for breakfast, an apple in third period, a yogurt and a few bites of someones sandwich if i couldn't resist for lunch, and a bowl of some homemade vegetable soup for dinner.  I get down to about 5% body fat doing that, but by the end of the season I am usually exhausted and wouldn't be able to keep it up for much longer.  If i was lucky I would get a bottle of water a day.  But the worst part was the fact that our practices were so incredibly hard that I should have been doubling my caloric intake, not fractioning it.

...oh... um if you want to lost weight, you can do that...

...but I wouldn't recommend it.

#58:
Even though you should drink lots and lots of water, if you want to change it up a bit have some milk. Instead of going to pop (or even juice [sugar]), have some milk. Protein and calcium are needed nutrients for any traceur. =]

I'm sorry but my biggest problem towards a good diet, is when me and my girlfriend go out too Chili's I cant resist a few beers and a nice steak and potatos meal, I mean I get steamed vegetables but I know there not saving me from the potatos much less the beer. So here's my question everyone splurges from time to time, how often is a splurge ok?

It depends on your goals and how far you're away from them...  If you're happy with your progress, don't worry about it.  If you're stuck at a weight (it's not really the weight, it's the body fat %) that you're unhappy about, make some significant changes in your diet.  Unless you're going way overboard with your splurges, a weekly outing probably won't kill your progress.  It may actually help by keeping you motivated and by keeping your body happy that you're not starving.  Just use your own progress as a guide.
