Alvins training log
« on: October 22, 2008, 09:30:53 AM »
Not sure exactly where to start,

i used to do parkour a few years back literally everyday no matter where i was, then i got into college and just lost all free time to do any thing but workout,
when i was in my prime for parkour i was 5'11 and i was 130 pounds pretty skinny,   ive been out of the game for a while now, and i am now an avid powerlifter im suposed to do my first competition next year,  now i am 6'1 at 220 pounds,   so i know to get into back in to my parkour shape im gonna have to do a shit load of more cardio, because for the past 2 years ive dont only wheight training,

i plan on going out this weekend and pushing myself to see what all i can still do as far as parkour movements.
as far as personal goals  long term i want to be able to do flips again
balance is a big problem for me so im gonna fabricate a balance beam and use that to practice
as for the rest of everything i wont know what i need to work on untill i go jam this weekend  but i'll post it sunday or monday
beat me if you can survive if i let you

5'11" and 130 lbs doesn't seem very prime to me.

back in to my parkour shape

I didn't realize there was a defined "parkour shape." Mind explaining what that means to you? It sounds like you're saying you have some added bulk that came about from power lifting. Do you happen to know your body comp currently? Are you trying to lose bulk or fat?

To be honest, the parkour shape you say was your prime seems very sub par to me. It's relatively underweight and makes me assume you had weak strength to body weight ratios. There's no problem being heavier as long as you maintain this key feature. You're ahead of the game due to your lifting and will help you transition back into parkour much more effectively.

shit load of cardio

Is cardio useful? Sure. But cardio to get into parkour shape? Do metcons which will help you shed pounds infinitely faster than cardio ever will and will also allow you to get your stamina up.

Proper weight training is a perfect supplement for parkour.

Fix your goals though. They are weak and ill defined. Flips...balance...yada yada. What flips? How soon? What time period? What kind of balancing exercises? How long? What else? Body comp? Do you still have power lifting goals? Use those here and apply them to your training to get where you want to be. It's confusing to me because you make it sounds apparent you want your main focus to be parkour now, yet you're competing in a power lifting competition next year.

Take some time and figure out where you want to be and where you want to go. Then structure a log and training regime around that.

thanks man, like i said im not sure exactly what i want, i know i wanna stay with my powerlifting but i also wanna get back with my parkour
as far as balancing  i want to be able to jump from railing to railing, that was always a weak point for me, doing flips and what not are not a major priority for me right now they are more of a long term goal,
im about 16-17 percent body fat % right now
i wouldnt mind getting my body fat percentage down without losing any strength or muscle mass because my powerlifiting is important to me also
