yeah, do it off of something, like a bench or something.

practice them on your bed in your room. to get them down in an environment other than a gym, then try them on a bench man. it's just fear of a new environment, just think to yourself

F#CK IT! I know I can do this... so here I go...!**frontflips**

lol

The "f#ck it" approach is a terrible idea but there comes a point when you absolutely know you can do something and no more preparation will help, you just have to take a deep breath, visualize the movement a few times, let go of the fear and do it. If you are comfortable with them in the gym (not "I can do them", but comfortable), head outside onto the grass, find a spot with a slight downhill grade, pretend you're in the gym and simply execute the move. Front flips are low risk, pretty much the worst that can happen is you will land on your back or ass. Good luck!

Ya im not much of the F*#$ it type lol. So theres not much of a way to work up to it outside other then just doing it? (and yes  I am completely comfortable doing them in the gym) Like when I had moved my backflip outside I had a friend hold my foot and push it hella hard so that I had to flip  :) then I just had him push less and less., so I guess I’m hoping for an easy way to work up to a front flip outside but if theres not I get it ill just got hopped up on caffeine and go for it  ;)

Travis is right, the F#ck it approach doesn't work to well.
Myself I'm not a f#ck it type either... I simply meant f#ck the fear, I can do this, fear is the only thing holding me back...
I know I can do this, different environments shouldn't matter.

that is what I meant in a choppy sort of way.

An easy way to get it done outside is the same way to get it done anywhere.... use a spotter.

The only problem with that is that spotting front flips is pretty difficult. Pretty much anyone can spot a back flip, but on a front you kind of have to know what your doing.

Yeah your right, they def are the best way to help you get over fear. I just think he's better off without a spotter for a front flip.

Tantee is there a play ground with soft mulch near your house? Or a beach with sand? Both are great places to practice outside until you gain the confidence to do it on grass.

Adding on to this: I had back surgery in 7th grade. Before that, I had no fear of flips at all, anywhere. Now, I can barely do anything with flips because of how the surgery left my spine. I've one a few flips on trampolines and stuff, but I landed on my head and hurt my neck. Now, i'm like trembling to even try a few flips on mats. Any advice?

As for the original topic, have someone count you in, and try doing them onto grass to make the landing easier.

Yea he's better off for sure. But then again he could simply just have someone watch him.
God knows the reason I don't do flips is because I have no one to watch me.. it helps with confidence.. knowing that someone is there in case you get hurt.

although with a front flip your back and your ass is all that will become sore. lol.

just tell yourself this is an irrational fear.. it's a phobia.
you've done it before, why does the fear come when you do it outside?
come to peace with your fears.. make them your b*tch lol jk

This is kind of a tag-along question as I'm kind of in the same dilemma - what's the best way to spot a front flip.  I have no official gymnastics training, so I'm not quite sure how that would work.  Any tips all?

I'm not sure how you would do it for a moving front flip, which is what I guess your doing. For a standing front take your left hand and place it on the persons stomach area, like the lower abs. Then take your right hand and put it on the persons upper(but not very high) back. Your hands should be kind of crossed now. When the person jumps up push them forward into the flip with your right hand and hold them in place with the left. It's pretty akward to do, and I don't know if it works for moving fronts.

I first started trying to get the feeling... first get it down on a trampoline. Then, if you have a pool, do a front flip into it. That way, you can reassure yourself that you will be able to get enough rotation.

Just an idea ::)

i have the same problem with front flips, I've done them before, i know i can do it, but whenever I try to do them outside i always get scared.  I think most of my fear comes from not being able to visualize  myself doing it.  Ive done them 100s of times in the gym and stuff but I've never felt comfortable doing it i know the motions and how it should work, but i cant get a mental picture of myself doing it
