Coming Back from Injuries
« on: January 03, 2008, 01:35:50 PM »
I've been dealing with a wrist injury for nearly a year now. Funny how a wrist can take a year from what felt like a sprain the night it happen, too having a bone graph from my hip to rebuild the bone and having multiple surgeries, too keep the joint held together durring the healing process. But, now I'm out of my cast and getting back into shape (Mainly on the treadmil) I've allways enjoyed Parkour & Free Running, Since probally Jackie Chan's "Rumble in the Bronx" Well before I had a name for it. But, to be honest I've been working out again for about the past two months I've gone out too some of the old spots with my friends, and I'm way too nervous now... Has anyone else been through this, I guess having cold feet after being away from awhile Im not sure how to explain it... Thanks ^_^

When I was 16 or so, i broke my tibia & fibula in my right leg.  It took me nearly a year until i was comfortable jumping off things (how I broke it in the first place), and major falls still give me mental trouble from time to time.  My advice is start slowly, and work towards big.  Also, do many exercises to increase strength in your wrist, and try not to land on it.
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

I broke my hand (right fifth metacarpal) about four months ago. Its been really hard to train because my grip was practically destroyed. I have a lot of motivation right now, luckily. I couldn't do a pull-up before anyway, but now I'm really pushing to work through the injury. Its really rough because sometimes my grip and soreness from the cold (ugh) sets me back. While doing those reverse pull-ups or whatever they're called, I actually lost my grip and scuffed my right hand. I just have to take things one day at a time.

I really see parkour as a savior. I was really rash and angry before which is why I broke my hand. One of the best parts of training for me is the mindset. It's just nice to get out as often as I can and do something just for me.

Yah the bone I broke was called the Scaphoid... One of the weirdest things is realizing how many little things I've lost in the past 10months. Such as not being able to palm a basketball anymore. I'm taking it slow, and I'm trying too keep from getting back interested in parkour too much. I'd rather get back in shape at the gym and comfertable with myself first. Thanks for the advice good too listen to someone else, makes it easier to organize your thoughts.  ;D
