Hey Jeremy, do you still have trouble with your hip? I found a way to make it smoother. All I do is tuck my legs in after my shoulder is on the ground.

Yeah, for me it feels like there's a massive gap between your spine area and your hip bone that doesn't touch the ground, so your hip just slams. Basically, when you tuck your legs in, your feet bare the pressure instead of your hip.
HOWEVER it creates another problem for me (spine hits) so idk, see if it works for u.

My only problem with my rolls is that my shoulder bleeds if I do them too many times, I think it's caused by the frictional build-up between my shirt and skin.

Sounds like you should try and take some of that pressure off your shoulder, bro. That's not particularly normal or good.

What would be the best way to do that?

You want to utilize your arms more to absorb the force and also to hold structure while your body rotates over. You want the first point of contact to be the back of the shoulder where there is less bone, so use your arms to hold your body until you rotate to that point.

Ahh, I see what you mean. I noticed that I have been rolling too much on the front of my shoulder.

One question I do have though is how much pressure are you supposed to put onto the arm that reaches under, that's something I'm really confused on.

I'd say experiment and try to balance out the force on each spot of your body. The back of shoulder can absorb more than the arm. If you use the elbow variation make sure you don't hit your elbow too hard, like I do, and get a big bump.

You use the arm-under method? I don't really like that technique, myself. It always ends in bruised shoulders, because of the lack of absorption. Not that my way is the only way to go, but I much prefer to use both hands to absorb the pressure before it hits my shoulder. I do drop my elbow, or more accurately, my forearm, as Hazim said. Just make sure you don't slam your elbow.

I can't give you some pounds per square inch in terms of how much pressure. You have to figure out what doesn't hurt. If it feels good, its right. Rolls are kind of simple, that way.

I don't like the sweep either. It hurts if you're bony, and has the least potential for absorption.

hey bro, one quick extra tip.  if you use the 2 hand method.  Put your hands on the ground and form a diamond towards the side of the shoulder you roll on.  that's how I do it anyways... yeah, if your shoulder is bleeding... I've never seen that before actually...

HOLY FRIGGIN CRAP I TRIED THIS AND MY ROLLS WERE LIKE MACH 2

seriously though, the roll was crazy fast

Didn't hurt anywhere either, was pretty cool.

EDIT: Okay, I'm going to do this from now on. Practiced them like this, I have faster, smoother rolls. Also I unconsciously do a sapien gait at the end when I do this, because of the speed. It introduced another problem though, --hitting my foot on that nub that juts out-- but I'll fix it.

Lol yeah the nub. That is a problem for me too when I roll barefoot. If you notice in Adam's roll tut, he does that too but with shoes on.

Try this: instead of tucking both legs in at the end, spread out the right foot (the one that touches the ground last), that should slow you down. This works best at slow to medium speeds, gives you more control. At higher speeds, you sorta want your feet close to each other to stand back up and run. Experiment and good luck :)

Aww, I don't want to slow down though. Fast rolls are fun D:

But yeah, I'll keep trying to fix it.

D: You know, I have a 90 degrees exit angle, so It makes me eligible for a second back roll. I'm gonna video that sometime.

I recently had trouble with hitting my hip during rolls, then I realized I was coming out of them on the wrong foot. Now my rolls are nice and smooth.
