Adam, what is the soundtrack from that video?

Also, what is the soundtrack from the basic roll tutorial from urbancurrent?

 :)

The music for all of our videos is at the end of the video. :)

Got my rolls down now. It's kind of funny, I'm still scared of rolls on concrete..but when I do them, there is absolutely no discomfort. I don't know why I'm still scared of them. Just the potential of danger, I suppose.

Okay, my roll fails. I think its just my bone structure, but i dont know. I have a Pectus Carinitum, (my sternum sticks outward). I think it may be the problem, but i keep hitting the top of my shoulder, and no matter how i land on it it always isnt smooth.. it hurts. Im getting really discouraged because of it, please help?

Try not to get discouraged, bro. Rolls sincerely take forever to figure out. I didn't get a smooth roll on concrete for a year and a half.

What you'll have to play with is the structure of your arms as you lower yourself into the roll. How much and how long you support your weight with your arms as you start to rotate will dictate the point of contact of your shoulder. The longer you can stall with your arms, the farther back the contact point will be, away from the bone. But be careful, too much of a stall, and you'll end up flipping right onto your back.

As you pitch forward give a little kick. This will propel your hips over your torso faster, giving you the rotation needed to hit the back of the shoulder. Are you practicing from a standstill or with speed? I'll skip the physics equations, but the slower you go, the more time each part of your body spends on the ground, and the more force each part will feel. Some will probably disagree, but I recommend practing rolls at speed. How often does one use a roll from a standstill after all? Plus, the speed should help carry you to the back of the shoulder.

*you should't have to use your arms unless diving *

You're right, Rowe, and I agree, faster is easier, but I consider that a shortcut that shouldn't be taken. Doing a fast roll is a good way to gauge where you're at, but not a good way to be thorough with your training. Its good to know you can perform it well fast. But perfect it so the technique is not dependent on the speed. You know?

*Yes, you really should use your arms. They are a transition point, so your shoulder doesn't take the impact*

I wouldn't call it a shortcut. Rather, a different path of progression. I learned to roll with speed and worked down to a standstill. The whole point of a roll is to redirect your momentum and push it forward, parallel to the ground. Doing it with speed offers the best example of how to do that. You can then take that knowledge and apply it to slower rolls, when your downward momentum is greater.

Mm, I understand what you're saying. Seems to me though, there's less knowledge to be gained in terms of learning technique when done fast. You can't feel the problem areas, you simply glide over them because of the addition forward momentum. Kinda like learning the Fur Elise and then applying that to Scales on the piano. Just doesn't make sense.

You should get a video camera and record yourself doing rolls in different positions (knee, standing, running, landing, etc.) at different angles. That would make it easier for us less experienced traceurs and traceuses to understand the basics and the details.
There will come a time where you meet someone that has no idea what they're doing. It is your responsibility to show this person the way.

Alright, I torqued myself as you guys said, and it worked for the most part, i even did a dive roll and it came out fairly smooth. anything harder than that floor (its carpet, and pretty soft) and my shoulder will be in a world of hurt. and im scared to roll on cement just because i feel my roll isnt good enough

Thats okay. You wanna drill it so its really perfect and smooth and automatic before you'll start feeling comfy about concrete. No rush here, mate.
