It is probably related to your rolling technique. The problem may not be major, but if you are just barely applying the tiniest bit of extra pressure on your hip each time you roll, the problem will become apparent with repetition (as it is now). You might want to take a bit of a break in drilling them, but not too long. What surface are you practicing on?

I've been doing it on carpet, grass, then a few times on concrete to test it out. But very little on concrete so I don't think that's the problem. Well... I just got back from badminton practice also so maybe that has something to do with it now that I think about it :P.

I'm having trouble rolling without putting much impact on the top of my shoulder. currently training on carpet to get the feel before moving to concrete. And, the part just below my hip bone (not my hip) is bruised a little

Can you guys please help and correct this problem??

For your shoulder, you are probably collapsing onto the joint too early in the rotation. When you go into the roll, you want to put most of your weight onto your hands and actually push yourself forward and over your shoulder, rather than just letting yourself down on the joint. This will avoid putting too much strain on the bone, and will actually help to propel your roll forward as well.

As for your hip problem, you are most likely just rolling over a bad spot on the bone, so try adjusting your angle of rotation (how severely across your back you are rolling).

Good luck and let us know how it goes! :)

Ahh, that makes sense. so I have to delay the collapsing part a little and play with the exit angle to avoid hitting that part. Ill try that when the shoulder pain subsides :p
THANKS FOR THE HELP :D

I'll tell you what worked for me, is doing it perfectly on grass or carpet to the point where it is completely comfortable and your not thinking about the movement. Then go to concrete and repeat the movements until they are comfortable, just keep getting better one step at a time.

I need to revise my rolls. They don't hurt on soft surfaces like grass, but on concrete sometimes it has a little pain, and most of the time it kills
If you ask me to run, I won't. If you ask me to be myself, I wont stop running.

I am confused on the technique a little. I roll on my right side, so do I put my right hand palm down or backhand down? I've seen both and I'm confused as to which is correct, or if it's just the way some people roll. Any help would be welcome.

There's no specific right or wrong roll. It's about whatever feels comfortable, pain free, and continues your momentum properly. So you have the best answer to your own question :)

rolling really does help with other things than PK/FR
last night i was with my small group and we were supposed to roll across the room any way possible. the first thing that came to me was a pk roll, and i got to the end way before anybody else.
lame example, but it works

The red is where I feel the most pain, pink is a little pain.

I practiced rolling on a trampoline, and it seemed like it was going well. I decided to take it to grass and it also seemed to be going good.

I decided to take it to harder surfaces like concrete or kitchen floor (wood). In just a few tries (I have never done more than 10 on concrete/wood on my life before this) I managed to really hurt my lower back without realizing it (The red in the picture, not me btw lol). I also noticed that was one of the points it said not to roll on. And now I know why. It hurts like hell. It's hard to sit down and get up or turn in a seat without it hurting. It really hurts. I would go do a few rolls now on something soft and take a video, but it really hurts and I don't think I could. Anyways, does anybody have a clue what I'm doing wrong?

On the bright side, I learned how to block and how to do front flips a few days ago :D

Hmm....I had a simliar problem for a while but I don't think I could advise you without seeing you do a roll and your physiology.
If you can show me I might be able to help, no promises though.

Personally I found if I angled my hip the right way as I came out of the roll it would not hurt, and I would stand up quicker and easier...
But I learned to do rolls on the hardwood floor in my apt before concrete, I did it backwards and perfected my technique pretty quick. I have since learned to do many different styles of multi-directional rolls, and continuous forwards rolls using one leg, keeping the other tied back or off the ground in some way.
So yeah if I can I will help, I know how much the hip hurts, as I am very boney as well.
After surprising a coworker he said something about me "sneaking around," this was my response to him: "I'm not being sneaky, i'm just standing here eating my sandwich, when I am sneaking you'll know it.
Wait..."

Alright, over the weekend I'll work on finding my camera and taking a video from a couple angles so you can see my roll.

I think I'll PM it to you, so thanks!

Edit: I just noticed that it looks like you are going from the same shoulder to the same side hip which is probably your biggest problem. I would love to hear how it has been going since.

Anyways I still have not heard back from you on this, but I have been working on this thread in the meantime. http://www.americanparkour.com/smf/index.php/topic,38383.msg460948.html#msg460948

Yeah, sorry about never getting back to you on that. I'm planning to, but my body has ached everywhere for the past week and a half. From various things, not just rolling. I'm going to try to get a video out by Wednesday, and send it to you.

I have pain on the right shoulder of the very back, and pain at the back of my hip after I roll.

Is there anything that could help me? I could show a video if needed
