There's gonna be an angle somewhere between 90 to the side and 90 ahead, that you're going to want to find. Trust me, it exists. Also, tweak the absorption part of your roll, to make sure that's not factoring into your roll going too fast or too hard.

I've tried every angle. My hips are extremely bony, it's close to the skin all around to the front. I'll try absorbing more with my arms, though.

Got it, finally. Pain-free rolls on concrete.
I switched up the angle of my hands, and tweaked a few other things, now I completely skip over my hip to the side of my leg. Works beautifully.

I am so close to having the rolls in hard surfaces done. Just have a question though, I kind of hit my shoulder bone that sticks out a lot when rolling suddenly. Sometimes I don't, others I do. Am I supposed to have more forward momentum when doing the roll from a standing position? I just roll without running or actually doing too much effort as I am kind of scared of hitting against the floor

Send me a check in the morning. ;)

Yow, you've just got to play with it until you find where the problem is. If you have it right every so often, then you've got it, you've just got to problem solve.

I am practicing my rolls on carpet ( my mom says no to this at the moment) and i always hit my shoulder and spine. It doesn't hurt too bad, but it is uncomfortable.

Look for the tutorial that's been posted 58 times in this topic. It'll address both of those problems.

Use your elbow to control your impact spot. DO IT REPEATEDLY!! You won't get it with 1 or 2 tries. Do it at least 10 times to make sure.

Why have I always found rolling on concrete a bit overrated? When I first started out I did a monkey vault, and dropped 10 feet, then did the roll, but felt no pain at all. I was just a little dizzy from all the 5-6 feet drop rolls I was previously doing almost nonstop. I have no major background in martial arts, but I did use to run track/play football.

Honestly bro, those heights are too much on concrete. Even on grass. You're asking for long term injury, even if it feels okay later.

Anyway, be careful. Maybe its 'easy' for you, but lots of people have difficultly, so be careful not to offend or appear arrogant about that issue.

Thanks, and I understand. I was just wondering if it was that weird I felt that way, that I never struggled adjusting rolling on grass to rolling on concrete. I'm not arrogant in any way, I practice and train with other traceurs who are both new or more experienced.

Also, what is the soundtrack from the basic roll tutorial from urbancurrent?
