I roll from my top right shoulder blade directly down to my left hip, rolling over the middle of my spine, so I don't believe that to be it. I think it may be the initial impact now, I come down a bit harder than what I saw in the video.

maybe you need to absorb more with the arms, don't just use them to guide you through the roll, absorb as much force as you safely can with them...

+1 thanks Kyle, that's exactly what I needed. Doing that also reduced the pressure on my shoulder, causing no pain for the first time. Thanks a lot!

Hm...okay so I seem to be having a couple of odd problems with my rolls...
(I roll from right shoulder to left hip btw)

1. I can't seem to find the right area on my shoulder to make first contact with...I feel some kind of minor pain no matter where I let it touch

2. For some reason my left elbow is finding the ground and pushing me up.

3. I'm having trouble keeping my left leg off the ground on exit

So yeah...any pointers? :(

1 Is your shoulder hitting the ground? becuase the back of your shoulder should hit it. Not the top.
2. I had this elbow problem as well, the trick is to tuck your arm closer to your body.
43. I'd really have to see what you are talking about to help you on that one.
anyway you can post a vid?

HIM: "whats that? What do you do?"
ME:   "well actually it can be pretty hard, i have to  code and..." (getting all technical with my words on what i do."

ME: "I make pretty pictures..."

1) try to start your roll closer towards your lower neck
2) so, you breAk fall with your elbows first; break with your hands then slam your elbows accidently or ..?
3) try to roll as if you are going to be facing to your left when exiting. [roll foward, end facing 90° to left]

try to do you roll in reverse,
try to roll half way, stoping on thy back.

1.Well, I'm trying to make it the back of my shoulder thats hitting, but I don't know if it's far ENOUGH back

2.Hmm...will try that

3. I would be able to get a vid up if my stupid dig cam would work >:O

Like they said, you gotta go overtop, and roll on the back of your shoulder, away from the bone, where the muscle is. Also, if you've bruised your shoulder and made it sore, it's going to hurt no matter what for a bit. Let it heal, then go at it again.

Reach out towards the ground at the exit of your roll. This will extend your elbow, and it won't bump the ground.

Pull your knee into your chest. It makes for a tighter ball, and your knee/leg doesn't touch the ground. You should start in a QM position, and end in a QM position. :)

Sounds good, I don't think I've hurt myself yet, but my rolling shoulder did start hurting inexplicably later this afternoon, so idk...
But, that sounds like good advice, and I'll be damned if I don't get it down soon. I seem to have a LOT of trouble coordinating my movements when rotating...lol

Hey Dutch! Up until maybe a month ago my rolls were painful and super extra shitty! Then a fellow Traceuse informed me that I wasn't curling correctly. She suggested a simple modification and now I'm rolling on concrete AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.

When your curling up, quite literally, bend like you're trying to suck your nut. Instead of kinda flopping on your shoulder, you'll distinctly notice a much smoother transition into the roll. This should also clear up your elbow problem! (I kept brusing mine up too)

Im just starting out with rolling and it always hurts. I think it might be the fact that my grandma's back yard is lumpy or I am just doing it really wrong.

Nate,

We can't say your roll is right or wrong telepathically. It would be awesome if you could video capture yourself, and then post it, and we'd be happy to help you out. Or, if you tell us exactly where it hurts, we can help you problem solve. In the meantime, check out some Roll tutorials (check previous pages of this topic for plenty of choices) on youtube and see what you can figure out.

The pain is usually on my right side and sometimes my lower spine.
I would love to post a video, but my camera is broken.  :-\

Your right side as in your shoulder? Is it the top of your shoulder, or the back? What part of your anatomy is it?

Your lower spine. You're sure you mean the actual spine, and not the hip bones near it?

On the right shoulder blade and the muscle area to the right of the spine.

Sounds like you need to find a new contact point for your body. Which simply means drilling and practicing your rolls the way you want. Once any bruises heal up, go out on a semi-hair surface and do a few rolls, changing the angle and where the shoulder makes contact. Find a spot where it doesn't hurt. Then it's a matter of practicing, long term, so that placement becomes natural.
