New to Parkour
« on: November 03, 2007, 10:49:08 AM »
Just found out about the parkour community and explored the apk site and the copk site. I don't really have any experience with anything physical and kinda hoping parkour will get me off my butt. I live in broomfield and commute to boulder alot for school and it looks like there is alot of parkour activity on the CU campus so that will be helpful.

I wanted to take the classes offered by demon but it look like like there 10 week cycle thing is almost over and i dont know when there next cycle will be starting. So was wondering if u really need classes to learn parkour? I really wanna learn proper technique so i dont screw myself over in the long run. any alternative ways to learn other then the classes?

Yeah...edits are on a short timer for posts...

Welcome BlinxDT! There is certainly an active community here in Colorado. Come on out this week to the Wednesday jam and/or the gauntlet...some folks have been slacking lately "cough" but its a great place to meet people and to train. Pretty much everyone in the community is really friendly and helpful.

As for the classes...they are awesome! I think we just had week 7 so a new rotation should be starting up in a month or so. The classes are a great way to learn fitness, fundamental skills and get a really good workout on Saturdays! It's also a really good way to start if you are new to training and "anything physical" as you say. Very worth it!

See you out there!!
Cheers

welcome BlinxDT!! you should come to the classes for the rest of the time we have left any way, it gives you a chance to meet some great traceurs of all levels and will give you a base understanding of parkour! Don't be afraid to ask any of us any questions as well, I'm sure you'll find that all the CO traceurs are good people... kinda....... lol jk  :).

I believe the Boulder jams just got moved to Tuesday, same time. You think you could make it for that? Cause I will be there, prolly a little early. Don't know who else will be there though.

I may have an after school program starting this week.

We'll see if I can make it.

Almost definitely on for gauntlet on Thursday though!

Not sure about this week...but on a typical week, we meet at the Engineering center, then head to a loading dock area (roughly south or SW, only @ 100 feet away from the courtyard)) that has nice walls and rocks.

Then we gradually go through the engineering courtyard area and then on from there...

It depends on who is there and what people want to work on.

Sorry, rereading this, that doesn't sound too helpful  :-\

Just look around the engineering center, and if no one is there, head west :)

Really? Cause Caroline(Windgirl, I believe) and I were there. We waited till 3:30 to start, but no one was waiting there or anything, so we just went and jammed.
