I'm going to Minneapolis in two weeks, by the way. I was hoping for Madison because it is much closer (five hours opposed to ten) and it will be a new place for me.

That was my thinking today.  People are expecting it to be in Madison and if we go and change it, it would cause a lot of confusion.

And Ando, I know you're just sayin that cuz it's an hour(ish?) away instead of 6 ;)

Hopefully I will have the people together to hold Midwest in Indianapolis in 2010 its really starting to come together!!!

I should have a few people coming to this jam even if I can't make it.   :-\  So long as I am back to Connersville in time to make it to work Sunday night I should be fine..... Might even manage to take a vacation day if I have one.

I think I may want to go to this, didn't do anything last summer but work so this one I am designating for national jams, making El paso, NYPK, COPK, adding this may be a good addition, but lodging is where I would definitely appreciate some help.

We are in the process of making arrangements for lodging. Stay tuned.

Hey guys.

Thanks for waiting on this. Alex was in charge of lodging and he had a pretty tough couple of weeks so it took a while for us to get this arranged.

We have tentative housing arrangements. I am still waiting on a contract from the place so I don't want to give too many "official" details, but I wanted to let you know prices so you could start budgeting. I will have official information in a few days, hopefully.

There are three housing options for you to choose from:

1. A private dorm. This will be $15-$20/night. They are giving us a discount. These are your basic "dorm" rooms with a shared bathroom at the end of the hall. The property is right on campus so you will be in the center of the action and within walking distance of all our jam spots. I will have specific details so you can make reservations once I get a contract with them but for now at least you have some dollar amounts to plan from.

I suspect most people will choose this option.

2. A hostel. This is also downtown and within walking distance of everything. This will be, I believe, $22/night for a shared room and $40/night for a private room. They cannot give us a discount, but they are part of HI so if you have a Hostelling International membership you can get discounts through that.

3. A campground. Still waiting to find out about rates on this and it is a bit farther out, so it may be a better option for people who are road-tripping. We can also provide transportation to and from the jam sites if need be. It is still close to downtown, and you could walk but it may be easier to get rides. I will provide camping information as it becomes available. Campgrounds will be between $35-$45/night, depending. (Some of these rates are for large group campsites).

As mentioned, I will give specifics (e.g. the name and contact information for the private dorm, the hostel, and the campground) once I have final contracts with those entities. It will be up to you to call and make your reservations when that information becomes available.

I suspect most will opt for the private dorm option. This place is great. It's cheap, I believe the price includes linens, and it has A/C and great views of the lake. Plus, it's within walking distance of all of our favorite hotspots that we'll be visiting during the jam!

Stay tuned for specifics. :D

I don't see why not. They are a private dorm, off-campus. And plus even with the campus dorms, during the summer they rent out space to groups for conferences and the like and they realize that most of these people aren't college kids (well, in our case they likely will be, but you get what I mean). ;)

The woman I'm working with to set this up is on vacation all this week so I won't get the contract, etc. until next Monday, after which point I'll have all the specifics for you. As far as I know, though, Nom, it shouldn't be a problem.

I'm so excited!

By the end of this month I expect that more details will be coming, more quickly, as things take shape. I'm super nervous but I'm also really excited for this and I think it will be a really good time.

Hope you guys can make it.

I'm pretty excited about the jam. I went through Wisconsin recently and stopped at the Dells... and I found out about Stand Rock. Its only a five foot gap. ;)

YAY!

:D

Okay, here is the lodging information. There is still one last question I have for them so I have not included any contact info for them. I am still waiting to see if they want me to collect all the reservations from you guys and hand them in in one pack, or if they will be ok with you guys calling them individually to reserve. Once I know that I will post the info here and let you know.

To reiterate:

Midwest Jam 2008, Madison, WI
July 18-20, 2008
Hosted by Madparkour
Traceurs and Freerunners of all experience levels welcome.

Lodging:

Primary lodging will be at The Langdon, a private dorm near the UW-Madison campus, near Lake Mendota. Here is a map

Cost: $18.89 per person/day, plus a $25.00 non-refundable deposit that can be applied toward the total cost of your room. **Payment is due at the time of check-in**

Cost includes linens (One blanket, two sheets, one washcloth, one pillowcase, and one towel).
Only one (1) packet of linen will be provided to each guest. Additional linen sets are not available. Any missing linens will result in a charge of $40 per set.

Rooms are air-conditioned and have an ethernet jack. Bathrooms are shared, per-floor, dorm-style.

Limited parking is available at The Langdon for an additional $5/day.

Price does NOT include a meal plan. There are plenty of places downtown, within walking distance of The Langdon and our jam spots, to eat for cheap (it is a college town, after all). When you check in at The Langdon you will receive a welcome packet detailing places to eat and shop while in Madison.

RESERVATION DEADLINE: June 1, 2008

Activities/Events:

Jams at Madparkour's favorite downtown spots, BBQ, possibly a ballet class and/or stretching clinic taught by Muse, possibly a conditioning session taught by Chad, and a few other surprises, if we can pull them off. ;)

Dates/times/locations still TBD.

************************************

Again, please don't make reservations until I hear back from The Langdon on how they want us to do it. As details become available, I will post the information in this thread, so check back often.

Hope to see many of you there! I'm starting to get excited! :D

You'd be staying in a private dorm, so I don't know what the rules are there. I would suggest inviting a parent to come to the jam with you! I saw quite a few parents out with their kids at the COPK jam. It was pretty cool! Most of them hung back and watched, took pictures, ran video cameras, etc.

Better yet, get your folks out jumping around with us! :D
