j_t_k's journal
« on: October 26, 2007, 09:48:19 AM »
--Friday, October 26, 2007--

well, i've decided to start a training log. i feel that i constantly cease working out simply because i don't have reason to, even though i do have a reason. it all simply boils down to not having enough motivation, i guess. my parents think that i have lost enough weight and that i should stop excercising all together, and that's the part that unmotivates me the most, because i have always listened to my parents. but for this one thing i am going to go onto my own accord (hopefully with motivation from you guys  ;) ), and go out and start a new chapter of my life, where i am physically and mentally fit.

this is the perfect time to start too, i have a day off on a friday, and no homework all weekend  :D.

my workouts will mostly consist of simple stuff: long distance running, HIIT sessions, upper body strength training, and lower bod strength training.

hopefully i will be able to have consistency while doing this, but i cannot guarantee anything, because i'm in the IB program at school, meaning that most of the time i am working or studying.

after a while i also hope to incorporate a food log into this journal, to help keep me on the right track eating-wise. as soon as i gain some strength, i will also start practicing actual parkour moves.

motivation, suggestions, and criticisms all accepted gratefully.

got to go now, will post later today concerning my first workout   :)

-jagjit (that's my real name, lol.)

i saw people doing this on other journals, so i thought i might as well do it too:

Name: Jagjit Singh
Age:15
Born in England, Indian heritage-wise, lives in Florida

Height: 5 foot about 7 to 8 inches
Weight: typically 160-165 pounds, depending on time of day
BMI-wise, I am overweight. Don't know my bodyfat percentage as of now.

Current Fitness levels
- Pushups: about 5-8 with proper form
- Pullups: almost 1
- Chinups: 2-3
- Bar Dips: maybe 1 properly
That's about it, upper body strength wise. Haven't really tried anything else.
- Mile time:  10 < mile time < 11  minutes
Lower body
- Can't touch my toes (sit and reach or standing)
- last time i checked (bout 3 month ago) i could squat 180 lbs 10 reps 2 sets. unfortunately 3 months ago was the last time i squatted.  :-[
For my standards, and for parkour's, its pretty bad.

Goals for the near future
- Pushups: 25 proper form
- Pullups: 5
- Chinups: 10
- Bar Dips: 5
Pretty low, but i want to make them realistic
- Mile time: 8 minutes
- Able to touch toes sitting and standing
- Able to squat what i used to again
Attainable, yet challenging

Diet:
Breakfast- Oatmeal sweetened w/ brown sugar, 1 whole wheat cinnamon raisin bagel w/ peanut butter, and a glass of OJ
Lunch- Pea soup w/ cottage cheese, and 2 rotis. glass of water.
Dinner- 1 chicken breast, seasoned w/ tandoori spices and garlic powder, with brown rice and potatoes, with a glass of milk.
Will start eating 6 meals a day, soon.

Workout: Legs, abs and cardio
Squats- 90 lbs 10 reps 3 sets
Leg presses- 100 lbs 10 reps 3 sets
Abs- 45 degree incline w/ 20 lbs on chest, sit ups 10 reps 2 sets
Cardio- HIIT session: 1 minute jogging, 45 seconds sprinting, for 4:30, then one minute straight sprinting

All in all, pretty good day. And i've figured out a workout plan:

Monday: Chest, triceps and back
Wednesday: Biceps and shoulders
Friday: Legs and abs
Teusday and Thurday: HIIT sessions. Perhaps will do every day later on.

thoughts?

Don't like it. You should do a full body 3-5x a week.

For lower do: deadlifts, squats, and variations. Potentially olympic lifts if you can find a good coach. Definitely sprints since you're gonna have to run for tennis.. might as well get a good head start over everyone. :D

Upper focus on: dips, pullups, rows, overhead press, bench. Make sure these are balanced in that you do as many pulling exercises as you do pushing.

If you need help making a routine I suggest you read the link in my sig and then ask some questions either here or talk to me on AIM.
