umm question, does it make sense to try and max out everytime you do pushups until you cant do them anymore and then take a break and do it over again etc. or should you just set a certain number of reps and get them done and do a set number of sets? if that made any sense. Also my pushups demolish my triceps, which im pretty sure is the muscle underneath the bone below your bicep, does that make sense or am i doing them wrong.
There's a lot of different techniques here. I've been told otherwise that going to complete muscle failure is a bad thing...however not many people receive Army training.
6 days a week at 530 am I would force myself to complete muscle failure which means doing as many push ups as you can until you fall, to which you respond by switching to knees until you physically cannot lift your body and need to be helped up. I saw results instantly, jumping from around 30 perfect Army standard push ups, to around 80 in two minutes after only a month.
If you're not up to that then I suggest finding your max at some point and then do 75% of that whenever possible. During my same month I also did around 30 every hour, slowly working my way up to 50 an hour, all consecutive no resting. A lot of the magic to the push ups is doing it right and getting into a rhythm. I do about 60 right now consecutive before I need to get myself into a rest position (which for those who don't know is a bridge). After than I can maybe only knock out 20 before I take another break.
My friend right now gets 350's on his PT score and knocks out around 108 push ups in 2 minutes. He does 85-90 all at once in the first minute and a half, and takes the last 30 seconds to muscle out the last 20.
