Parkour Movie
« on: October 03, 2007, 07:18:47 PM »
Someone posted this on a post on the main page...I thought I'd put it here for the sake of organization and information.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0968767/

A movie called "Parkour." From the IMDB site:
"A New York cop goes undercover in the world of Parkour, AKA free running, in order to track down a gang of sly bank robbers."

Uh..."undercover in the world of Parkour" sounds negative to me..."AKA free running" oh not again..."a gang of sly bank robbers" WHO DO PARKOUR!? SOMEONE FESS UP NOW!

Starring Channing Tatum...who, from my research, has no PK experience...sounds like fun.

PS, if the directors are looking for a traceur who can act, you can reach me by PM :)))

Here's a link to what may be a topic about the same movie:

I think I'll just wait and make my judgements once it comes out.

Parkour is a fluid series of movements in order to accomplish efficiency...so in a way, yes, it could be a dance. A really freaking awesome dance.
Whether you believe you can do it or you believe you can't; you're right.

Every girl in America will see that movie. Channing Tatum is an ex-abercrombie model and "the sexiest man ever"(quote my friend, whos a girl). Every girl I ask thinks he's like jesus. That's a good thing though, if he plays a traceur, than girls will consider all traceurs sexy.  ;D

Other than that I don't know, it'll def show the mainstream what Parkour is (or what it isn't). Again it's all how people take it.

p.s- the movie will probably be bad....just becuase thats hollywood.

I'm actually kinda excited about the movie but i just hope that parkour isn't displayed in an over all negative light like is was in the movie Breaking and Entering.  where it seemed that the only people who practiced parkour did it so they could do something... well... "bad."
However i tend to agree with HuoMaKe

"Uh..."undercover in the world of Parkour" sounds negative to me..."AKA free running" oh not again..."a gang of sly bank robbers" WHO DO PARKOUR!? SOMEONE FESS UP NOW!

If it helps to promote parkour the way it should be promoted i'm all for the movie... Even if the plot is a little lame and stolen from Breaking and Entering.

I think free running and parkour are getting to the point where we don't really need to worry all that much about people thinking about it as something that could so easily be confused with crime.

this movie might be good, but we'll have to wait a few years i guess, or at least until the trailers come out...

It's things like this that make me take a deep breath and hope for the best and expect the worst...If the movie is a big hit a few things could happen

A.) like acewall said, it will be easier for us all to pick up girls, which i'm sure we can all agree is a positive thing

B.) every conversation with a person (who's never really seen parkour) after that movie will go as follows. (this is if the movie portrays parkour in the wrong light)

Passerby "Hey, that's neat, what are you doing?"
Traceur "Parkour..."
Passerby "Oh, like in that movie there with the bankrobbers....I bet cops could never catch you"
Traceur*Frown* "Sort of, but not really, we don't train to steal stuff, we train to...."
Passerby "Yeah, ok, whatever see ya"
Traceur*heavy sigh, and goes back to training*
[end skit]

C.)a bunch of kids will see it, not bother finding out the proper ways to do parkour, and end up going and hurting themselves doing things the wrong way

D.) a bunch of kids see it, go online, find forums like this one, learn how to do things the right way, and the parkour community benefits from the publicity, as long as you don't mind a little media attention.

A and D are my personal favorites of the scenarios i've composed :P

You should see Banlieue 13 :) Very good movie with David Belle as the main character :) So you can guess

The american version is called "District B13".

yea i've seen it its good, also try the ultimate challenge, it follows a parkour team in Thailand, its good as well.  But imo, i think channing's probably the best fit person american actorwise, to play the part i guess, i mean atleast they're not puttin in shia lebouf

Yeah, probably. That's what would concern me the most. I find it hord to explain now, but...ugh...with that kind of negative media, there'll be no way we can practice in front of like, police or security guards.

Maybe we'll have to use PK to get away! Who knows?

From what ive seen from this Channing Tatum guy he seems to be pretty athletic and able to do parkour good for the movie if he started training like 2 years ago. But still i hoe like everyone else that it doesn't portray parkour negatively.

i agree with what alot of people on this thread have already said...It will make traceurs look like bad guys. And alot of kids are probably gonna see that movie and go "oh, that's cool, i'm gonna go try that!" then they go out and kill themselves trying to gap something and parkour's gonna be outlawed...
quiet people have something to hide...

i, think it would be pretty hard to outlaw parkour...i mean that would be limiting civil liberties quite a bit, i highly doubt the government could get away with limiting the way in which a particular person sees fit to move throughout his environment, that would be like banning rock climbing or whitewater kayaking, it's impossible really
