CBS special some Philly Group
« on: September 30, 2007, 07:47:29 AM »
Yo I was watching the 11 oclock news on CBS and then, holy shit, its a little clip about PK in philly. Some group named vallient X or something like that, Id figured they be on this website (who wouldnt) and already posted about there interview but maybe they aren't on APK. Everything sounded pretty good and the didn't look to bad but they focased mostly on jumping from roof to roof up 10 stories. The said none of them was ever injured. Then bam all of a sudden the started talking about a little kid that fell off of her roof and thats bullshit. I mean Im sorry that the kid fell off the roof but the kid never did any pk. They followed their brother on to the roof and fell off. I dont even think the brother did any PK. Thats bullshit for relating that death to PK. All and all i think that it would have a good name for parkour intill that story about the kid. Then it changed into roof jumping. "Stay off the roofs they arent stable" thats not what Parkour is about.

Moral of the story: Im pretty pissed.

Man, that sounds like anti-parkour propaganda. Are you sure those guys were traceurs? LOL.

Hey moonrunner ,did you see it? What was that teams name, mna. I live right outside of Philly and would love to know who they are. And was it just me or did it make PK look pretty bad?

Yo Mike, you told me about this story a few days ago. This story ran on CBS on September 28th and the parkour team was called Ventilation X. I just did a search on CBS's website and found the story you were talking about. Check it out:
http://cbs3.com/topstories/local_story_271211103.html

There is some story about a 7-year old who was doing parkour and fell to his death. Anti-parkour propaganda maybe but i know that there are tons of posts on this site telling people not to even try parkour until they are able to do certin physical things. Plus they had to talk to a bunch of local police chiefs about what they think and stuff. But hey it's the local news and they don't have much to talk about when there's no dancing ponies or jetskiing squirls (ever seen Anchorman?) so i would feel to bad about it. If anything they're jsut a little slow getting into the parkour thing.
peace.

Yeah, cute website. "Skateboards, breakdancers, and traceurs"? I guess they're going for everything. My only question is how they got a television news spot. I havn't watched the spot or their videos yet but I guess they're jsut wasn't enough real news to report. I mean, it's not like Philly has a gun problem, mayoral election, or too many people out ont he streets or anything.
I guess any puiblicity is good publicity though. I think P.T. Baurnum said that.

That is the perfect example of what NOT to say to the media! I hope someone can reach those guys and teach them about the real values and philosophy of parkour, because they don't understand it, skills or not!

Do you mean the kid that died? I read the article and I know this is a technicality but i don't think they even mention that he died doing parkour just that he was following his brother when he jumped off a roof. Maybe I'm wrong. Still it was pretty sick bringing the whole dead 7 year old into it just to prove a point.

*SLAMS*
*HEAD*
*AGAINST*
*WALL*

Here's an idea...READ ABOUT YOUR ART! We can't let these people get to the media...Like, sure, practice PK without knowing what it is, but if you go to a news station, figure out the history ("Hollywood chase scenes provide..." no mention of France....Europe....APK....The US....), figure out what the media is gonna say about it (Like, don't let them relate PK to an accident) and DON'T DON'T DON'T DON'T DON'T take the reporter on top of a ROOF.

Reporters, remember, especially those on TV, have an innate urge to warn parents of X Y Z...We want to set limits: X≠ Pa, Y≠ rk, Z≠ our

Someone call the Philly CBS station and tell them what PK really is.

And this amidst the teasing of possibly showing a good Parkour segment on the CBS Early Show.

$20 says that it's because of those dumbasses that the early show segment got canceled >:(

I think you're pretty sick for only being concerned that people might think the baby died doing parkour! You should be concerned that those young kids were playing around on the roof of a ten story building, which lead to the death of that child! Of course the baby wasn't doing parkour or freerunning. No one in their right mind would even think that. It is obvious however that he was following the bigger kids who were! What kind of example is that they were setting by going up there? It was an example that lead to the death of an innocent child. They shouldn't have been up there themselves! What business do they have training at such a height, and they are OBVIOUSLY not mature enough to be doing that. Stupid!

I think the two incidents were unrelated...the kid who died was following (his|her) older siblings, who were not doing Parkour. See how this is bad journalism?

But seriously, why would you have to be on top of a ten-story building anyway? That much I agree with. And the film crews seemed to focus on them doing drops, not vaults or anything else (wallruns...climbs...underbars....)

I'm gonna post my feedback in another post...in this section.

I am a father of three and a true family man, so I get really sensitive about bad things happening to women and children. That's one topic that causes a strong emotional response from me. Anyone who makes light of tragedies concerning women and children will find they are on the wrong side of my temper in a hurry, so please be aware of that.
