Missorui Parkour Myspace Group
« on: August 23, 2007, 01:06:01 PM »
Well I recently got on myspace to connect with friends due to living in a small town these days, I was pleasantly surprised how many people that do parkour are on there. Anyways in searching through they're myspace groups I realized that there was no group for Missouri Parkour so I created one and just wanted to let people here know about it. So if you are on myspace and in MO you should join.

I thought I couldn't, I could.
I thought I wouldn't, I did.
I thought  I wasn't, I am.

Hey there I have been trolling this site looking for my little start in doing Parkour and I checked out the Myspace link above and can as well verify that it is not active for lack of better terminology.  Well now that I have started posting I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask who is active and does Parkour in the Springfield Missouri area, I wouldn't mind pointers  ;D

I'm just starting and I live in spfd, mo. A good place to try is the train yard near the square, closer to grant and chestnut. I think that's where it is anyway. It's got giant tubes to climb through, on, and between with piles of construction bases and other big stuff you can trick off of, jump between, and generally kick the shiite. I don't know how many people can see you out there in the day, but I go at night anyway. Also another good place is elementary school playgrounds.

I agree with that whole hearted about the playgrounds however I don't live on that side of town and didn't really kow of a train yard near the square.  Once I get over this sprained ankle (sadly not related to anything PK and it's a crappy story) I will try some moves at either the elementry school playground or a park, the jungle gym equipment seem like a great idea to practice!

well i just tried out founder's park in the square (exactly north east of the DMV in the square) and that is DEFINITELY worth spending some time at. The more I look the more stuff i see that can be tricked. I also talked to a local gym (they'd never heard of parkour), and i got a meeting with the owner. If all goes well, PKers in the area will have a bit of a place to practice with a soft landing. In regards to living on the other side of town... you got a car? a bike? two legs? cmon man, no pain no gain. as soon as the ankles fixed up take an adventure in spfd and cut through backyards, climb fences, jump cars, and cause raucous all the way to this side of town...

Yo dawg I live in the burbs all of us have cars... I just drive a ghetto pedo-wagon.  Though yea living in the suburbs does give a lot of access for things such as the cat jump? and most of the vaults.  I did drive around downtown taking car of school related stuff so I did take some time to take a scenic route for places to practice PK.  Good luck on finessing your way into the gym I wouldn't mind trying some of the scary stuff where I won't face plant into something harder then my noggin.

haha, yeah a face plant would hurt, but then you could always tell the story of when you face planted pretty hard... i drive around too just looking for good stuff to run. i thought maybe i just had way too much free time, but im glad to find out their are other enthused pkers around. i hope these ppl arent giving me the run around tho at the gym. im trying to think what would be most effective for following up with them. my best strategy is a letter with thanks for taking time to work with me and opening up their gym. or like a fruit basket, no? hehe. or ill just harass them if they dont do what i want. cause this is america damnit!

You could get all Shawshank Redemption on them and mail them a letter once a week every week for YEARS!  As for me being an enthusiest well I do have enthusiasm however I'm still a bit out of shape, I tried doing a pullup and counted one before I threw in the towel.   Really need to work on the upperbody strength.
