Knee Swelling
« on: January 11, 2006, 05:31:37 PM »
I bruised the top of my knee slightly at the last jam I went to, it appears that the blood from my bruise has moved around my knee making it swell.  It hasn't swollen too badly, but whenever I try to stretch or run some it feels really strange.  It's kinda like I'm wearing a knee brace when I'm not, and when I touch it it kinda feels like jelly.  I've been icing it and sortof resting it, but it's extremely hard for me to totally refrain from physical activity.  Any suggestions from the resident expert (gear) or anyone else?

Holy crap, same thing happened to me less than a week ago.

Clipped the top of the knee cap, and its all swollen, cant run track until the swelling goes down.

I recommend the standard remedy for any swelling, ice. Then heat, like a bath or hot tub, but always heat after the ice, and no heat right when you injure it, thats just a bad plan.

I don't know if it's the same thing I had, I did a handstand on the edge of a pool 2 months ago, fell, and smashed both kneecaps onto the edge of the pool. I could hardly walk the next day but stretching really helped (that stretch where pull your foot to your ass and lean forward a little). I can still feel it if I stretch my upper leg really hard but I can do anything again. Having some physical activity also helped, just to get the blood flowing no more.
Dunno if it's the same, I had a lot of swelling as well though.

"my knee has been swollen for quite some time now (3 months) and it hasnt gone down much at all yet" - I would strongly reccomend seing a doctor if it's still as swolen as you said it was.

I have and i have gotten an MRI too. they just said that it was a lot of internal swelling.

I had one of those last time I hurt my knee (got kicked in the knee though, not free running related).
I tore the cartilidge disc the knee sits on, almost had to have surgury, if it had torn any further it couldent have healed on its own.

If the knee swells and locks up, see a doc.
